It all depends on how much Sony's gunna wanna charge for the PS4.

You mean price/performance right? Because if not....
Plus its not nine cores.

I'm sure you must be in disbelief about the fact that home PC CPUs still haven't been able to match the Cell's nine 128-bit 3.2 GHz cores even after five years. It's too soon to be comparing current PCs to the PS4.
Eh? Proof please.lordreavenYou would have found it easily if you did a Google search. Nevertheless, here are two sources:

But can it run Crysis?
DreamCryotank
If it can run Crysis 2, which looks better than the original, then it can also run Crysis. The only limitation is the RAM, but that issue can be resolved with better texture compression and more efficient use of memory, much like Crysis 2.
It is quite literally impossible that a console will ever be more powerful than a PC.
Consoles by nature are "just enough" to run games, PCs can be anything.
More powerful spec wise? Probably not.
More powerful in the application of running games? Probably.
It's just a matter of specialization, consoles by design allow for the most efficient use of the hardware by not having all manner of background stuff eating up processor power and ram, and also by having fixed hardware.
X850pro, Athlon 64 3000+, K8V-X, 1go of DDR1, an garbage no name PSU, SyncMaster 205bw, Razer Deathadder. Even a Wii is more powerful than my garbage (which i once bought for over 1200$ OMFG...) so DUH, the ps4 will power crush my garbage rig. DDR4 will be released next year, i expect a huge graphical jump in 2012.silversix_
Wii's GPU is weaker than ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. K8 Athlon 64 3000+ can easily match Wii's PowerPC 750(G3) type CPU with 64bit SIMD at +700Mhz. Should we restart Mac PPC G3 vs AMD K8 AthlonPC debate again?
K8 Athlon 64 3000+ already has 128bit wide FADD SIMD(SSE) unit.
Intel Core 2 Duo introduced 128bit wide FADD SIMD (SSE) and 128bit wide FMUL SIMD (SSE).
Dude x360 was more powerfull than my pc on realease. Consoles get old, they dont get released weak.dakan45Depends on the console e.g. PS3 vs NVIDIA Geforce 8800GTX based PC.

Fold @ Home PS3 vs Fold @Home GPU 2(AMD Stream processor/NV CUDA processor) says Hi.
G8x = Geforce 8 GPU family.
------------------
Like the Xbox 360's workload model, the PC side has AMD Radeon HD 2900/38X0/46X0/5165 (320 SPU/AMD Stream processor)or NV Geforce 8800/9800/250(CUDA processor) GpGPU. On both PC and Xbox 360, most of the math workloads are handled by the GpGPU.
On the workloads (i.e. games) that matter in GS SW, my DELL Studio XPS 1645 laptop's Radeon HD 5730M(400 SPU) GpGPU will kill PS3.
Note that, Xbox 360 Slim has it's own "CELL" i.e. fused IBM PPE X3 CPU+AMD Xenos GpGPU (SIMD array) = XCGPU (aka Xbox 360CGPU). AMD's Fusion APU would a type of CGPU.

Um No The PS3 doesnot have 9 usable processors nor is it a true 128 bit cpu. It has a PPE(main cpu) which is slower then a Pentuim 4, then has only 7 usable SPE's. The PS3 Cell is more of a gpu then a cpu because the SPE's act more like shader processors then normal cpu cores. Which means that in a out of order environment (using a computer OS)the cell's processoring power means nothing. Each SPE has to told what to all the time or its useless, and With apps like Folding @ home An intel Q6600 cpu or Geforce 8600GT gpu out processes the PS3 Cell. Which means The PS3 Cell has been smoked in that area. Now with the Cell processing.rendering 3d graphics by itself (no RSX) it does out do modern cpu's and that only because the SPE's are more like shader processors from a gpu then a normal cpu cores.

No this is wrong in so many ways. Crysis 2 on consoles is not where near like Crysis 1 on Pc with Scale & Graphics. The PS3's abilities is determined byits GPU the RSX (gimped Geforce 7)and its memory. Crysis 1 uses more then double the amount of memory then the whole console has on a level let alone uses 512mb or more just with video memory. Crysis 2 has been been scaled down so much for consoles its not even "Crysis" anymore.

This is really hilarious. Reminds me of 06
Edit: Damn it, it made it look like I posted this nonsense lol.
Considering the ps4 won't be released for about 6 years, probably. Who knows what we may accomplish technology wise by then? Probably not much but....

I don't get why everyone is hung up on the idea of this gen lasting forever. 6 more years really? You honestly believe Sonys next console wont be out till some time in 2017? I'd be surprised if Sony is still selling PS3s by then. The next Sony console will be revealed by E3 2012 at the very latest.
Well I would hope so. Considering my PC was bought at the end of 2008, I would be shocked and dismayed if they release a console in 2012-2015 that uses 4-7 year old technology.
Will it be more powerful than a PC of the time it's released? I seriously doubt it.
EDIT: basic mental arithmetic fail

I really have my doubts though. As for the Ninty and Sony I strongly believe they will have new consoles out some time in 2013.
Wii hardware is badly showing its age at this point and slowing in sales (still dominating of course). I'm sure Sony would like to have a new platform on the market before MS this time around, plus they already have tech they can simply improve upon and still launch at a reasonable price. No need to worry about high Blu Ray and Cell costs this time around.
Well I don't know about being purely more powerful in raw power, but it will probably have better graphics for around a year or so then PC's that have come out. That's how it worked the last two times.

Yesterday is the first time I was in SW since my last Nintendo thread.
The fact that there was be PC's out there that are more powerful then the PS4 pretty much says it all. Of course there are some PC's in people homes that won't be as powerful as the PS4. Sheesh, I have PC's at my job that aren't as powerful as the PS2. lol!! For playing games however, the hardcore PC gamer will definitely have systems that are move powerful then the PS4.Post your pc specs, do you believe the ps4 will be more powerfull than your pc?
caribo2222
This thread is pure comedy. If rumours are to be believed the next gen consoles won't even be up to par with a low end PC in 2013, nevermind a decent gaming PC.
iamrob7
We know ABSOLUTELY nothing about the PS4. For all we know it could be the most powerful machine on the planet when it is released. Xbox 360 on the other hand... don't need rumors to see where Microsoft is going with that.

And IF so, like the PS3, expensive at launch!I'm not sure I'm allowed to fully disclose my PC's specs, but needless to say, I am currently running 64GB of RAM. I don't think any of the next-gen consoles will come close. Maybe the generation after next we will see consoles with tons of memory as memory continues to get larger and cheaper.
(To be fair, this isn't my computer. It belongs to the company I work for.)
