PS4 Pro officially bombs in Japan...3DS 107k

I work at a big box retail store atm for some seasonal money, and oh boy are the PS4 PROS not selling at all.

big sale today, a lot of ignorant parents are buying the OGPS4 because its cheaper and "Does the same thing" as the pro... I can see many unhappy people getting an OG PS4 over a PRO as a gift this holiday season

@uitravioience: He's likely right, Sony really has done very little to inform the consumer populous what this thing is, most aren't going to know what it is beyond being $150 more expensive and just buy the standard PS4.

That is where Microsoft is going to kill it with Scorpio, it comes out in less than a year and they're very openly discussing it everywhere, they also announced it in proper fashion at E3. Sony waited far to long to announce this thing, the way they announced it was beyond poorly thought out and they did it far to close to release.

Next week sales will be the important one. The week just charted has been all about Pokemon in Japan but next week it is Final Fantasy 15 launch week. It will interesting to see how it sells and how the game boosts console sales over there.

You would feel that people could be waiting for next week and we are seeing the lull between the launch and a game I presume Japan is waiting to be released.

The inquest should wait until then.

Everyone knew this was going to happen. In a shrinking japanese console market what matters most are the prices, not power. As such it was obvious that the ps4 slim would what would sell the most ps4s. Overall it was a very nice week for the ps4 as the ps4 slim and the ps4 pro combined sold 38k units.

That's cute, can you explain why they show it as a completely different product, but don't do that with the PS4 Slim? That's right, because PS4 Pro is a different product, and the Slim is actually a PS4.

Not good for Sony for their premium product to be selling so poorly. Maybe as a Premium product it doesn't offer enough value. Sony should go back add that UHD player, maybe make a PS4 elite type of controller and package that in and relaunch the PS4 as a true Premium product even if Sony has to sell it for $500. Sony needs to move quickly before the launch of Scorpio.

@tormentos: Regardless, according to you, all models are accounted separately.. The PS4 and the PS4 Slim are different models that AREN'T being counted separately.. This is logically because either they didn't sell a single PS4 Slim or all parties concerned view the PS4 and PS4 Slim as basically the same console and account for them accordingly.. And in practical terms, I can agree with that logic..

But by that same token, those same parties obviously view the PS4 and the PS4 Pro as different consoles.. So in practical terms, can you agree to that logic as well?..

I mean, you can't have it both ways.. Either every single model is accounted for separately, which means that they should be listing the PS4, PS4 Slim, and PS4 Pro separately.. Or they are just accounting for the truly different consoles that offer differing capabilities and/or price points.. In which case, they would only list the PS4 and the PS4 Pro.. And they did exactly that.. So do you finally agree that the PS4 Pro is not literally "just a PS4" and it is a different console?..

Now I'm curious how NPD lays them out, if it's separately it's game over for their argument.

It isn't a flop. but i'm too lazy to write something that will fall on deaf ears; also the famicom mini sold a little more than 250k units and practically went out of stock after that.

@dynamitecop: Yep, the upcoming NPD is going to be very interesting.. Not only because we get to see if the PS4 and PS4 Pro are accounted for separately but also because cows have been claiming that the Xbox One has won the last four months of NPD sales because people have been waiting to buy the PS4 Pro instead of the PS4 Slim.. I guess we'll find out soon enough how accurate those claims are..

I wouldn't consider November an accurate reflection for gauging that, December would be a better telling as Pro sales will have normalized. A new console is always going to drive drastically inflated figures for its launch, it needs to taper off to get a real idea of how it will continually sell.

Wow, they did already cut it by $60... Can you imagine how many pissed off people there are right now, it's only been 17 days...

The initial figures may be inflated by it being a new product, but the December figures will still be inflated by it being the holiday season. The real test is how it does in January onward

yeah I just checked, and Sony offered no such type deals when they first released the PS4. They had similar situation where it released two weeks before, but the best deals were bundles that weren't all that spectacular. Nothing like a price drop like the Pro just got. To me this is a recipe for consumer resentment and does reflect poorly on the Pro sales so far.

It depends on what Sony did though. It's all supply and demand, so maybe it's not about a lack of demand moreso than being over-supplied. I doubt that Sony would have made crazy supplies for the Pro though, but maybe they thought VR would be a bigger deal

I'm glad it's not a completely new console, it doesn't even have to sell well, but devs still have to support it and add enhancements to the coming PS4 games. Win win situation if you ask me.

The whole xbox one comeback has fallen and was down already in uk yoy 33% even that it was as low as $212 with a game much cheaper than last holiday.

We already saw that in the UK with the PS4 selling more in one week more than the differences the xbone had in advantage from the last 4 months combined. Even if they end up selling less in NA the xbone already got pwned. TLHBO.

Good. Now hopefully Sony makes a "real" half gen upgrade. Double the GPU again, double the CPU and add more ram, allow us to use 3.5'' HDDs, put the PS Vr adapter in the machine and allow HDR output while using the PsVr and to reduce the useless cable salad, release the thing with a 4TB SSHD (hybrid), give it full BC to Ps1-3 (maybe even PSP/Vita?) and bundle it with a high profile game in an exclusive design (maybe a FF7 mako reactor design?).

A "real Pro" is willing to pay for an actual upgrade. But if your new PS4 barely improves nobody cares. The differences between Pro and OG are a joke

Considering the fact that I don't get a dime from either of these companies, I tend to not care about these sales wars for the most part.. I have more games on my Xbox than I have time to play and that's all I care about..

November NPD will be interesting nonetheless though for the reasons I've stated above.. I do imagine that PS4 may win the November NPD due to the sales surge from releasing new hardware but wow, I can't imagine the cow meltdowns if it doesn't..
