What i love most about trophies is that i can go back and attain them in all my games.... Oh wait! I have a PS3 and love it but it's common knowledge that Live offers more. Yes, you are paying for it but that doesn't make effect the service.readingfc_1

Exactly. And let's take a closer look at trophies. It's great that it's a tiered system that more easily shows you the quality of an achievements you earn.

However, I want to see the achievement/trophy level of each of my friends. XBL let's me see my friends list with their gamerscore. PSN, I have to click on each friend to load up their trophies.

I can also check achievements from any computer with an internet connection. On a blog, in forums, iPhone, on Xbox.com. Trophies.... you have to be logged onto your console... unless you're one of the few that uses your PSP for remote play.

While we're at it, we can get into the XBL functions you can use on Xbox.com vs the PSN features on the Playstation site. But... I think can be a whole thread in itself.

OMG you have to press a button to check your friends' trophies? Poor you.

I can clearly see now that the 50$ a year you pay is necessary.

[QUOTE="R_MAHIL"]imo live is a lot better. obviouswly home and the fact it being free makes psn pretty good but nothing compared to live. i havent been on psn in months cos it was shocking while i go on live almost everyday. also on psn hardly anybody has a headset. on live you can talk to almost everyone cos most 360's have a headset in the box.dthach614

FALSE

what about that chatroom? everytime i played on live, every body is in party chat and wont communicate with the teammates.

At least people in chat rooms have the means to talk to you if they want. On PSN, about 80% or so don't even have the option to talk to you.

[QUOTE="CAlNlAC"]Cuddlesofwar actually brings up a pretty good point. One of the benefits of p2p based online play which can really help older games is that so long as people are still playing it you can join their room. In like a game like say PDZ for example, a launch title on the 360. You can still find and join a game online pretty easy because its p2p and still a small number of players play it online. Now if on the other hand PDZ was using dedicated servers MS would have likely shut them down cause theres just not enough people playing to justify the expense of running the servers. So basically you're out of luck if that happens. Still though I would like to see more games using dedicated servers on XBL.dthach614

do me a favor... halo 2 was a very popular p2p online game for it time... go try to find a match and tell me how long it took.

go test out all the old p2p games

I was just playing Crimson Skies the other night, and Chaos Theory last week. Uncreal Championship 2 not long before that. I didn't have any problems finding games at all. Even so, playing with friends, it's a non-issue.

How's MGS Subsistence treating you? Playing with friends only isn't even an option anymore.

If you have a list of 20 friends or more...go ahead and tell me which friend has the most trophies.

I know you're just being facetious, but there's more to the subscription justification. An interface that functionally better designed is only one of them.

After getting my 3rd RROD, the last one happening a month after getting it and a right after a week of not even playing it... yeah... Apparently using the 360 breaks it and aso not using the 360 breaks it.... I bought a PS3.

After playing on PSN alot lately I have to say that PSN is the superior online service.

1. Its free, with alot more free downloads, like free wallpapers etc which you would be made to pay for on Live.

2. The interface of PSN is vastly superior as it reflects a PC online server more. An example of that is that you join the server and can view every game being held and play at and you can pick and choose which one you want to play or find a specific one with a friend. Unlike on Live where its just that random P2P garbage that 90% of the time enters you into a horrible game that dc's after 5 seconds...

3. Is it just me or are there a considerably smaller amount of absolute idiots on PSN. I played many many games before playing with someone that was even remotely annoying. This could not be said about Live with im assuming from experiences that at least 40% of the userbase is people under 11 that are there just to annoy and about 20% are drunk or high but not only that but they insist on telling you that they are every 5 seconds... Oh and lets not forget about all the racist's and the people that sound like they have swallowed the mike lol on Live.

4. Servers that can host 30 vs 30 games with little to no lag on PSN!!! Those games are just fun lol.

5. Home, yes you may say its pointless but nonetheless its a cool feature that has the potential to be great!.

6. Its free!!!! Yes I said this already but its so important it needs to be said twice. I refuse to pay for live anymore because its just not worth the price.

Anyways, this is why PSN>>>Live.

Ok, XBL has way, way more downloads. They have movies, shows, demos, Netflix, wall paper, gamer pics and yes you can get some for free. You can even do custom wallpaper with your PC networked. Don't forget custom soundtracks in-game.

Having P2P has it's ups and downs. I do know that if I want to play quick match I don't have to search or wait. Playing and chating with friends is a lot easier, even while playing different games it's easy to talk with friends.

Less people on PSN means less people playing on-line. I still believe those numbers $ony released last month about them having close to 18 mil users is false. Plus more people are able to chat on XBL because they give you a mic when you purchase Gold. PSN you got to go out and buy a bluetooth headset which has to be compatiable and on top of that not guaranteed to sound good, but whats the point when there's no one else to chat with.

Please note that more expensive doesn't mean more mature. I've seen plenty of 17 or 18 yr old kids with BMWs and Lexus. Parents buys their snotty, immature children PS3s too. If people are annoying you online you can always MUTE them or vote to boot them off on XBL.

About does 30 vs 30 games, they sound fun. So does MAG,with 128 players, if it had a release date. Don't know about you but people want to play games online , not Waitware.

Home is garbage. Money and resources well wasted, once again I want to play games not potential, and all this talk about what it can be or will be after updates, that potential doesn't have a release date so have fun waiting and dancing in front of the virtual jumbo TV. By the way, why does it take so long to download stuff and even updates on PSN.

PSN being free is nice, but you get what you pay for. PSN NOW is better than XBL at 360 LAUNCH. XBL is better now and will still be ahead of the PSN and WiiConnect.

2 things. 1. Free does not equal better. I can throw myself down a flight of stairs for free, but I sure don't want to. 2. Everything you mentioned XBL already has or is untrue.

I own both systems..the ps3 is my main console but it is NOT better then live. No cross over chat on psn or game invites. whereas its not difficult to send someon an invite on psn its simply much more steps then it is on live. anyone will tell you that.. Also..may we all say a prayer..for my 60gb died at 10:12pm last night right before i got to play SF4.. :-(

why do you think i bought the PlayStation 3 over the cheaper x360? you pay for what you get... and when FREE service is better than PAID service, there's no reason to waste money...

You used "It's free!" twice, and everything else was pretty much anecdotal and/or opinionated. How was this supposed to be convincing, exactly? Also, here's one thing Live has that PSN doesn't; unification. That alone practically makes Live superior from any standpoint.

I greatly prefer LIVE over PSN... to the point that I buy most every multiplatform game with a multiplayer component on 360. PSN is free because nobody would pay for it as is. donalbane
a good point well made. there is a reason you have to pay for live and for once its not ms ripping you off (cant believe i just said that!), the service you get is actually worth the money.

[QUOTE="dylanmcc"]PSN probably has less idiots than Live, but there's a reason why Microsoft have a price for online: the service is much, much better. There are more features.-DrRobotnik-

Other than playing your games online, what does Gold offer over Silver? MS has to be the first company to charge people solely for playing their games online with a Player hosted system. Nice of them to charge you for using your own internet connection.

What does Gold and Silver have to do with anything? Yeah, it may be a rip paying just to play online. but the XBL service is still better than PSN. The fact that PSN is free doesnt change that.

Yeah but you pay just to play your games online and the ps3 offers that lag free aswell i have no problems in COD4 or world at war same as burnout and well every game i have so i dont the idea you get what you pay for becuase its just the same on both

XBL Gold > PSN > XBL Silver

If you compare the features of XBL and PSN, they'll be pretty equal but in quality, XBL is better.

For the price of PSN (free) its actually a pretty good service. although XBL does feel more like a professional service.

I really hate when people whine about Cross Game Invites. Its really not a big deal.

Steps : 1) Send a message to your friends Ex. Hop on COD5

2) Your friends get on COD5

3) You invite him to your party/match Done

PS - I own a PS3 but I've playied the 360 a good amount of times to realize things.

EDIT: I hate how when I try to make lists they always correct it

If i wanted fear2# right now, i just click my steam icon and purchase/download it for my pc.

while xbox360/ps3 owners will have to actually leave their house to get the game at a store or wait for shipping/mail if they ordered online.

lol pc FTW, plus im not paying 59$ but 49$ plus i dont have to disk damaged cd, if my game install gets messed up i just redownload it, once you bought it redownload it unlimted times.

Take a look at what you're complaining about. It's really really really... really trivial.

It's only a small indicator to a larger issue which I mentioned: a better thought-out and functional interface for something as simple as achievements. Devil's in the details. And attention to detail is a level of polish that PSN just doesn't have. It's rough. It's basic. It's without a central vision to build its patchwork features from.

Actually Left 4 Dead and Frontlines have them. But I think that's pretty much it though, there's none for anything like Halo or Gears.

im aware of that. but like you said with the games that matter most like halo and gear, it dont have dedicated servers.

Yah your aware of that but stated "xbox live doesn't have dedicated servers" it's up to the developers live is perfectly capable of having dedicated servers. It has 4 games with them right now , get a clue before posting on things you don't know about.

I disagree.

And before you ask, yes, I own both a PS3 and Xbox 360 and have used both networks extensively in order to form my opinion.

If i wanted fear2# right now, i just click my steam icon and purchase/download it for my pc.

while xbox360/ps3 owners will have to actually leave their house to get the game at a store or wait for shipping/mail if they ordered online.

lol pc FTW, plus im not paying 59$ but 49$ plus i dont have to disk damaged cd, if my game install gets messed up i just redownload it, once you bought it redownload it unlimted times.

you think retailers will help M$ and Sony sell their console if they can't make money off the software?

a lot games for xbl don't have dedicated servers. it doesn't matter if xbl have the capalites, it mean nothing if its not executed. why are we paying to use our own connection?

Roughly, only 5 or 6 PS3 game use dedicated servers though.

I believe it's SOCOM, Warhawk, MGO, KZ2, R1/R2, BF:BC that have dedicated servers, (Or in KZ2's case, will have them). Sure it has more than the 360 but hardly something to argue over. Games with dedicated servers account for less than 5% of either console's libraries.

so a free psn can have the same amount of games that have dedicated server to XBL with a 50 year price tag? COOL

Yes, you can. I don't really care either way. P2P, dedicated - They both get the job done.

I get more lag and disconnect problems than I would expect from L4D's dedicated servers than I think I should though...

Even without dedicated servers, live is still better than PSN. Simple.

live is much better, and i have both a ps3 and a 360. Especially when you go in terms of content. There are a laughable amount of downloadable arcade games on the psn compared to live, and there are almost no demos for any games on the psn, period. Take into account all the multimedia stuff that live can bring, and it easily wins.

why because of the shopping enitce dashboard? or is because cross games invite? or is it the chatroom? or is because the other non multiplayer features?

Having both PSN and Live is the ultimate combo. I love going on PSN after being fed up with all the pubescent idiots on Live. And then I love going on Live after I need to just talk smack like an idiot myself.

But seriously... Live needs to have some kind of age restriction because it is starting to get real annoying. Whereas PS3 needs to have a bundled mic set... just include a crappy one that's prone to breaking like the Xbox one.

Acting like chatting is a bad thing simply because of user-comment variability is the dumbest argument ever.

Xbox Live has more content overall. PSN's exclusives only have great connections, a lot of the multiplates still suffer (even just a little bit). There aren't that many people on PSN that uses headsets at the moment either. Xbox Live is free, but to play online it's $50 a year, which isn't even that much.

Xbox Live is better, still. But it's close.

Agreed. as a working young man i dont mind paying $5 a month for xbox live. hell i wish i Iphone bill was $5 a month. i buy at least 10 games a year with no problem. i guess the only people complaining about xbox live are kids that live with their single mother and have no control with money.

There are idiots on PSN surely but I'd bet theres also a lot less people with headsetsToriko42
I only use my headset when i feel the need to and if people in the game sounds like people i wana watse time talking to. Only certain games need communication.

Sure Live is superior with more features but PSN is good enough for me and it's free, that's all that matters. Although I wish it had more Live features though. Hopefully down the line.
