So not all of the $881? :P

Nope! It's pretty sneaky to be honest. It would be like not being able to access things you've downloaded off the Internet if you stop paying. It's only good if you keep subscribing.

well i like it, but maybe its not for every one.

and its definitely not as sneaky as not being able to access content to a game you payed full price for ;)

I refuse to say that the content is for free. It's a rental service, nevertheless it's a pretty good one.

[QUOTE="Syn_Valence"] and with the 360 you have to pay for something that comes on the disc YAY thats win right

You do know devs do that on PS3 just as much as on 360, since as far as I know it's only a few devs doing it. Anyway I'm guessing it means that if I were to buy all that stuff without it I would save that much, the thing is I wouldn't buy probably even 10% of the discounted stuff on there.

Just activated it, got the inFamous 2 dynamic theme and just queuing up a bunch of 60 minute trials. It's cool so far.

Now only if it had cross-game chat then it would be a steal. :D MS should make a plan called the Gold + plan for only $75 a year you get 25% discount on all DLC, map packs, etc. You also get free crappy games nobody wants. Sounds good. 8)

And so far its confirmed not a single pernament free download has been offered via PS+ except lbp in europe and I believe a game in japan in america you get nothing if you dont keep paying for it.
And if you miss a single item you cannot get it ever its gone so you better be up on whats available for download.

and there's the question of how cancelling your subscription (and therefore lose access to much of the free content) will affect the overall value one recieves from the $50/year they spent. When discussing value one has to consider the cost-benefit, not just the benefit.

PBSnipes

This is the worst argument that people always bring up with Playstation Plus. Everyone always complains about losing all their free stuff if they cancel their account. Do you realize this would be the equivalent of saying Netflix or Gamefly is horrible because once you cancelled your subscription with them they stopped sending you disc in the mail?

The $50 isn't paying for the games just like your Netflix/Gamefly sunbscription isn't paying for you to keep getting discs even after you cancel your sub.

The point of PSN+ is for those who would buy and would save money to get it. Optional for those who'd want it, unlike other services.

Seems like an odd way to count savings.

It's like saying I have $20,000 in savings from being a Steam member.....Well yah I would if I wanted every game it offered.

Themes and avatars stay even after you've quit the service, also "bad" is a matter of opinion. I can't believe you've considered EVERY game that's been offered bad.

I got 3 months for 12 pounds, and it paid off almost immediately because I got Stacking for free (I wanted to get it anyway).

It's true that with PS+ you get things you wouldn't normally buy, but that isn't always a negative. Going beyond your normal game preferences, you might discover new games and genres. For example, I would have never bought Lead and Gold, but because it was free, I tried it and it was a lot of fun.

I believe the only thing you don't keep after unsubscribing are whole games that they give you. And that means complete ps1 games such as spyro, crash, twisted metal, psn games like wipeout(im pretty sure they gave this out at some point). So all the DLCs you get to keep, with some very convincing ones like killzone 3 map pack, lbp2 stuff, and a whole bunch of other crap I can't recall on top of my head.

I have to say overall its quite worth it.

following their logic lets look at xbox live's deal of the week;

this week if you buy everything that's reduced you save 3000ms points

3000*52=156000ms points per year

if you buy points from your xbox then the best rate is 117.6 points per £ which gives a saving of £1326 per year or $2131

per year flawed logic isn't it?

Live deals are kinda terrible though ...

Fair enough PS+ are under pressure to give great deals since it's a paid service, but ... so is Live Gold.

Besides, as previously mentioned the wat IGN have worked it out is more relevent to PSN+ then live, as PSN+ is marketed to people who want discounts on their games, and little extras. Most people only pay for Live Gold to play COD online.

They may be terrible but they're still there, the point I was trying to make is that this is a terrible way of looking at it. The way this works is that you save $881 if you get everything, what are the chances that everyone gets everything? PS+ does give you some good deals and it does make you save money (assuming what you want is put on sale), but I just don't like this way of looking at it.

And this article is the equivalent to someone getting the retail price for every DVD, BluRay, Game etc. available on netflix and totalling it, then saying thats how much you're saving. Complete nonsense.

[QUOTE="tormentos"]Between free games, discounted games and DLC, Avatars and Themes, demos and Full Game Trials, PlayStation Plus has posted 286 separate pieces of content. And just between the free games, discounted games and discounted DLC, your maximum savings in PlayStation Plus' first year amounts to $881.57. That's approaching 18 times the cost of a 12-month subscription to PlayStation Plus and doesn't take into account Avatars, Themes, Full Game Trials or demos. Is the premium subscription worth it? I think so. I've been a loud advocate of what I think PS+ offers for a year now, whether it be in articles and editorials or Podcast Beyond. But the real question now is, what do you think? Now that you have all of the details, the information and the numbers, do you think PlayStation Plus is worth it? Do you think it's had a solid first year or do you want more? Sound-off in the comments below. http://m.ign.com/articles/1179543#.Tgze9ci-XCw.twitter Wow PSN+ is the way to go apparently,in the free month i still have,i have play like 5 games, downloaded several dynamic themes, and even play Sonic and Street of Rage free, not bad after all,i may consider getting it.erwingameon

This is a total joke. Your saying that XBL gold is a ripoff (you posted this on another forum, remember), but your willing to shell out 50 bucks for stuff that you normally (mostly) wouldn't buy. You just lost the last bit of credebility you had left mate !!!!

One of the first game people got with PSN+ was wipeout hardly a game that no one would get, paying $50 dollars to get discount, play free games and get allot of stuff is 100 times better than paying for something that should be free.

There is nothing nonsense about this article it clearly how much you can save,it is easy to see that not every one will save that much, but the savings are there, just because you don't want to see them and just want to pretend to ignore them doesn't mean they are not there.

Its complete nonsense for two reasons.

One, they've come to this number by totalling the RRP of everything PSN offers at a discount or for free. Now that would be fine if you actually owned that content, but with PSN+ you are renting it which is very different, once your membership runs out you lose it all. Therefore the number is not accurate at all, since other than themes and avatars, you own nothing.

Secondly, people don't spend $881+ dollars on PSN each year, therefore they won't be saving $881.

Theyre only free while your paying Sony for PSN+ membership, otherwise you get it all striped away from you. So nah, not really free.

Paying $50 dollars to get free games, discounts, and free stuff that will other wise cost you more, isn't even close as to pay for something like XBL live which basically charge you for multiplaying, which is a free feature on all consoles and PC. Don't pay for PSN+ and if you are a big PSN store supporter you will pay more period for everything, the fact that you can find a site which you claim is free and save you money,in nothing hurt PSN+ because games are not free on PS3 or 360 period, with PSN+ you pay to get games,on xbox live you pay so that you are allowed to play the multiplayer part of games which you already pay for when you bought the game, and that is free to every one but xbox 360 users.

Theyre only free while your paying Sony for PSN+ membership, otherwise you get it all striped away from you. So nah, not really free.RR360DD
What do you want.? To play them for free for life for just $50 dollars.? And anything you buy with discounts is yours, themes and several more stuff yours, correct me if i am wrong but if i downloaded a game and play it for free, even if the games was taken away from me after the year is up,in nothing change the fact that i play it for free,i did not pay for the game so yeah it was free. For people who fight to hell and back defending something like xbox live which charge you for nothing,i found hard to believe that you people actually don't want to see how much you can save with PSN+,which by the way isn't mandatory like XBL.

[QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]Exactly. The selection is awful. tormentos

exactly... to say they have broader selection of free stuff is legit and thats fine, but to attatch a dollar value to it is wacked... Guess what I have a website called theeroica.com/awesome and you're all members and because its free you save a billion dollars on all the content i provide... enjoy!

Dude, you don't even know what you are defending.

You are paying $50 to gain free access to selected games. You do not own them, and once you decide to stop paying for PSN+, those games get stripped away from you.

No, this is why i said the $881 number is bull****. Because you don't own the games, its not the same.

[QUOTE="sts106mat"] paying $50 to get free games = fail right there.

Paying $60 to get nothing is better right.? At least from what i know games have always cost money,so yeah paying $50 to get free games, discounts, themes, access to betas which will other wise require a pre-order of a game or a purchase of a related product is in deed 100 times better, that trowing $60 a year for something every one on the world get for free but xbox 360 users.

clearly they are not FREE then are they? if you stop paying for PSN+ you dont get to play it, therefore, it isn't free!

Ok let me work this out to you,PSN + is more like a renting center, that get you huge discounts in games, and get you free themes, avatars and other stuff that will cost you money, yeah you get to keep your avatars, and themes so yeah those are free. The rest is a renting service with huge discounts, which is 100 times better than trowing away $60 dollars for nothing, with PSN+ you get huge discounts and free stuff,as well as the ability to play several games while you maintain the subscription they don't cost you extra.
