No, really. You do. The DS has a huge and expansive title of games, and it consistently gives DS owners quality titles. And then we have the new 3DS rolling out, and the PSP2 is no where to be found. All I hear is crickets, and now you get news such as the following:"Fewer Major Games For PSP This Spring, A Sign Of Decline." - Link.

"The PSP is not blinking out of existence, of course. The Sony handheld will get some major new releases this spring, including a stand-out exclusive Kingdom Hearts game from Square-Enix and a God of War from Sony. But a PSP fan would be correct to notice that their purchasing options have been diminished."

There's been some signs for a while especially with the whole PSP Go deal (which was a failure in my eyes). Heck, even IGN came out saying they feel sorry for you. Sure, you got a couple big titles coming like a new God of War, but seriously, the PSP isn't looking very strong at all.

What do you say?

Yeah I listen to the IGN podcast last night. It's kinda sad really, I have been gaming for a long time and it's never cool seeing a system get towards the end of it's life. They seem to think that Sony will come out with a new system, so that is a good thing. If anyone listens to the podcast, they start talking about it at the 15 minute mark.

I bought one for peace walker, one of the worst gaming decisions I've ever made. I wouldn't be suprised if the new GOW PSP game is the last game I buy for it.

Sure it's losing a lot of Steam, but that's probably because the PSP2 will be announced soon.

The PSP was a failure ONLY when directly compared to the DS in the game/sales department.

By itself, the PSP was a pretty good system with good games and great sales that warrant a sequel handheld.

WILL it be able to go toe to toe against the 3DS when quality games are concerned? I doubt it.

Why? psp has had a great run so far. There's some gems in the system and it managed to sell 60+ mills. It's just dying out now, sony will probably announce a new handheld soon enough. It's always that fanboys want to pit it against a competitor to bring it down, but the psp can stand up to any console really.

We PSP owners do not need your sympathy. it's a great little portable. I just wish it had longer battery life. That's my only complaint. I also wish Minis weren't so crap quality, too. Other than that, I enjoy it very much for the little time I do play it.

Of course there will be, I just hope they don't add another peripheral gimmick like touch or something else, we have enough of those. T think a second analog will sufice.

I don't need your sympathy, PSP has had a great run with a large collection of top games many of which I still haven't got. I love my DS and will be a day one 3DS buyer, but the PSP has been awesome and will always accompany me on my travels.

Kinda of sad during the month of Nov there are only 2 games coming out after the 2nd. This should be where some of the biggest games comes out. There only 1 game scheduled to come out in December. After God of War which comes out on the November 2nd at least in the US there almost nothing coming out for the rest of the year.

In the next few months I'm buying Y's Seven, Valkryia Chronicles II, Ace Combat: Joint Assault, Phanstasy Star Portable II, Kingdom hearts Birrth By Sleep, God Of War: Ghosts Of Sparts and a few other games. Overall the DS has a better line-up then the PSP but the PSP has a strong few months ahead and a overall great line-up. No pure handheld will ever beat Nintendo, they are the best.

I have both a DS and a PSP so I'm not too bothered but yeah, it looks like big games for the PSP are running out. I'm guessing there will be a PSP2 this year anyway (TGS?).

See there is the PSP problem. If they would come out with a gimmick then it would have done much better. People like something that is new, the main reason the DS ended up on top was because of the touchscreen. If you look at the PSP vs DS before games like Nintendogs and Brain Age the PSP was doing a good job in the US market. Once those picked up than the DS moved ahead without looking back. Now the touch screen is used in most games. Gimmicks are what moves gaming forward.

I don't want your sympathy. I bought mine to play PS1 games on the go. I have yet to get Peace walker actually. It's enough for what I want. I would have liked a DS for Chrono, FFVI, IV etc, but I can always save them for the future, when DS becomes quite cheap. It is a shame that the PSP doesn't get as much support, but that doesn't make it a bad system.

No one said that it was a bad system. There are many great PSP games to play. 2007 was a great year for the system. The only thing to look at is once you get to the last two months of the year there is only a handful of games scheduled to come out.

Which you could be right about. Alot of times this can happen when someone knows something we don't. The question is will the next PSP have a chance of getting up steam with the 3DS coming out around the same time. Unless the next PSP is a phone. That rumor was already proven to be something else than a PSP phone. I still see that has Sony best chance to keep up the PSP name.

Something in the podcast made me think though. Why would Sony be spending so much money on adds for the PSP if they plan on killing it. Than again Sony is weird sometimes.

Gimmicks move generation forward...in sales! And sadly sales talk...I have yet to really be impressed by any of the gaming gimmicks. Touch screen was ok, not great, motion control really bugs me (on the Wii at least don't expect PS3 or 360 to change my stance much) and as for 3D as of right now I don't feel its worth it, but I could eventually maybe in 4-5 years see myself getting behind it.

Maybe they're spending money on ads just to keep general interest and knowledge of the PSP in the minds of the public...for maybe the release of the PSP2? Idk, seems like a possibility. If people are thinking about and know about the PSP then when the PSP2 comes out they are more likely to purchase it.

The PSP has had great games. I dont think its dieing, its just really similar to the Wii in regards too releases. By that i mean it has alot of great games, but nothing inbetween. Whereas PS3/360/DS have filler titles (stuff like Bioshock, RDR etc.) The Wii and PSP dont have this. For example, what has the Wii really had since SMG2 in May? And beyond Zelda, what other games are coming 2011? Just saying in both cases, the games will be announced. Im not turning this into a Wii thread, just using it as an example.

That's what I was thinking. Maintain the PSP brand name leading up to release so that it has a more established prescence, so that they aren't crippled by the name 'Nintendo DS'.

What they are talking about is the number of games coming out. We can debate all day what games are better than others. During the first week of October there is 9 games coming out for the wii. From the first week of October there is 12 game scheduled for the rest of the year. Right now according to Gamespot unless I missed something the only game scheduled to come out for the month of November is GofW and that does not have a solid date.

HarlockJC

Did ? as far as I'm aware it still does. Yes it's sad new releases are becoming sparse but maybe they are planning on a PSP2 announcement soon ? I always find it a dissapoinment when any system loses support. Just like the original Xbox lost its support far too quickly in my opinion.

I bought one for peace walker, one of the worst gaming decisions I've ever made. I wouldn't be suprised if the new GOW PSP game is the last game I buy for it.

Que? Peacewalker is awesome. Especially if you've played Portable Ops. Kojima improved the formula in OP on so many levels it makes going back to PO nearly impossible.

Same here. My DS and PSP tend to collect just as much dust together. Then a game comes along and I play them and then back on the shelf they go. It's not the end of the world.

[QUOTE="HarlockJC"]Yeah I listen to the IGN podcast last night. It's kinda sad really, I have been gaming for a long time and it's never cool seeing a system get towards the end of it's life. They seem to think that Sony will come out with a new system, so that is a good thing. If anyone listens to the podcast, they start talking about it at the 15 minute mark. heretrix

I'll take your word on this. I could never listen to any of the IGN podcasts for longer than 10 minutes. I think that was a record.:)

I really don't listen to it also. Heck I read the comments to find where to skip to. I was just wondering what they were going to say. Anyone who has read my articles on SWM knows I love reading about gaming history. Stuff like this is gaming history in the making, even if it bad news. You should see the number of books I have on my desk talking about gaming as a topic.

No one said that the PSP did not have good games.

Did ? as far as I'm aware it still does. Yes it's sad new releases are becoming sparse but maybe they are planning on a PSP2 announcement soon ? I always find it a dissapoinment when any system loses support. Just like the original Xbox lost its support far too quickly in my opinion.

Does have good games. I meant nothing by my of the word did.

Wait......you mean the PSP only has 1 game in November? Right, I skimmed and read it as games for us. If thats the case, then its a problem.

PSP2 soon.

I agree we could see a PSP2 announcement at TGS. The PSP is much bigger in Japan than it is here. Yes, currently there is only 1 game scheduled to come out in November for the PSP.

And how does that have any authority?
