I keep hearing people say the 3DS has Gamecube graphics, but none of those screens even line up with the PS2.Marka1700Snake Eater 3DS has much better lighting and bump mapping than the PS2 version.

So now it's possible to play Metal Gear Solid remake on the Wii (BC), MGS2 on your Xbox 360 (BC), and MGS3 on your 3DS. But 4, Portable Ops and Peace Walker are still exclusive.[QUOTE="SakusEnvoy"]
[QUOTE="bytgames"]its a rehashed port of a 6 year old game....snake eater....its not peace walker...and metal gear has been on nintendo systems for a long time....starting with the NES.

Here are some more screenshots for Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater.
Once again how is it fair to compare a handheld that will realease in 2011 to one that released in 2004?
Sorry to break it to you, but all the cutscenes in MGS3 are in-engine, and if the pics for Peace Walker were cutscenes, they'd look like a comic book.gameplay vs cutscene, i love biased comparisons.

Sorry to break it to you but the models used for cutscenes and ingame parts for not very powerful consoles (even for the powerful ones) are radically different. Check sora talking on a cutscene vs talking ingame. The face is completely modelled, even the mouth inside is and has face animation. The ingame version is 2 different jpgs interpolating. So i'd say that rendering only what they want they can obviously pull different results. But calculating the fact that in the psp you need to have something beyond what the camera shows you as you are playing, the level of detail of the main character is lowered.
Got me now?
Lol who cares? Why would anyone ever choose to play the 3DS version when we all already played it 6 years ago? Give me Peace Walker thank you.

I don't recall Sony ever saying that was after formatting.
FWIW also it's 2GB at launch. As with the DS they will probably release bigger cards later on.

I feel like it's easier to play a shooter like this with an analog nub than with a touch screen. 3DS looks great - and the 3-D display will probably be awesome, but the PSP is gonna have better controls IMO.
BTW, psp fps/shooter controls actually work well if you use the right control scheme and get used to it (Move/strafe with face buttons, aim with analog).

Well, if it was 2Gb, it would be 256MB, which is the current max for the current DS.osan0
It's unlikely that the new 3DS will use 256MB for its games.
Edit: Nintendo site says 2GB with a capital B.
Nintendo 3DS Game Card:
2 GB Max. at launch.

The 3DS has an analog nub very similar to the PSP. As well as a touch screen.
PS. For some reason GameSpot won't let me quote you with your username. :?
[sigh] It's a bit frustrating that the widescreen on the 3DS still only has half the vertical resolution of standard-definition console games. Even with enhanced lighting and effects, I find it hard to imagine the 3DS version ever had the potential to be graphically superior to the 2D-PS2 one. 400x240 is also an awfully strange resolution to watch Hollywood movies at.
(Point being, if you could play the original on a 3.5" screen, the PS2 version would like nicer. The 3DS one may look nicer than playing your PS2 on a huge HDTV, though.)
So now it's not only more games but better graphics. Could this be the last steps of the PSP? it hasn't been doing so well lately even before 3DS was announced. themyth01Are you really surprised this has better graphics? I mean this is the next generation of handhelds and the PSP is last generation now.
Does the 3ds have significantly better graphics than the other DS models or something? THis new Metal Geat game and Kingdom Hearts 3DS look near PSP quality.vashkeyIt's not a new DS model, it's a successor (a DS 2 pretty much).

If the shots from KH were real, then it may even edge the PS2 version, but we still need to see gameplay.

I guess I'm just used to all these hardware revisions. That and it seems odd Nintendo would release a successor when the DS is doing great right now, even if it's nearly six years old.

To be fair the 3DS screen is 3,53 inches (only 2.5 inches less than PSP GO) and it is 800x240 while PSP is 480x272 also, the 3DS screen will look even better in 2d mode since the image won't be doubleddarth-pyschosisThis is the 3DS's only weakness, and it bugs me. I'll buy it anyway of course. But why, why did they go with such a low vertical resolution? The iPhone 4 has a 3.5" 960 x 640 screen, and most console games - the same games which are getting ported to the 3DS, like Metal Gear Solid 3 - were intended for 640 x 480+ resolution.

They do not care, they are just happy to get 3D games! I mean the majority of DS games were 2D after all

Also, it looks like even in 2D mode it can only display 400x240 resolution. The reason why I say this is because, of course, the 3D effect can be turned on and off - but if a game is designed around the 3D effect, for 400x240 resolution, it would look horrendously ugly at 800x240 due to stretching. Also, the proportions of the 3DS aren't correct for 800x240 resolution. The width of the screen looks like it is about 1.6-1.7 times the size of the height; which matches up exactly with 400x240 resolution. So I'd guess the 3DS is permanently locked in to 400x240.[QUOTE="darth-pyschosis"]To be fair the 3DS screen is 3,53 inches (only 2.5 inches less than PSP GO) and it is 800x240 while PSP is 480x272 also, the 3DS screen will look even better in 2d mode since the image won't be doubledSakusEnvoy
