People going after TC for linking an estimate from 'the research firm' and not Sony needs to know that it was the same prediction by same research firm on the basis of which all the cows were going apeshit over PSVR as the next big thing. Have a look at it:

@Shewgenja said:

Yeah, you read that right, by the end of December, there will be over 2.5 million of these in people's homes. Haters am cry.

Original Thread

You can see the cows circle jerk there. Oh, and that's just one thread. There are many after that as well quoting the same figure by our dear cows including speak_low. So before cows not TC for hyping it, and it's rather hypocrite to see cows calling out TC for it.

On topic, you spilled the beans too early TC, I was going to wait until Jan and then rub the salt on cows wounds. Oh well, seems even the hentai looks bad when it's pixelated. No wonder even Japan didn't support PSVR.

I like PSVR, but you'll end up spending quite a bit of money to get the most out of it.

I'll wait until it's dirt cheap. Already got the Pro anyway.

The first big game doesn't come till january (resident evil 7)

HOnestly psx will play a part in it's success, if they can reveal some big games,it'll fly off the shelves.

There are like 3 must have games on psvr right now, however they aren't quite system sellers, simply a good start.

(rigs, until dawn thingy, and that tank game)

I plan on getting one if more impressive games are revealed at around resident evil 7 quality or above.

I would buy an HTC vive if it was £150 tops but this is £695 plus. VR is too expensive and is going to flop. Even £350 for the PSVR is too much as you got to buy other equipment like the camera and move too.

when you look at Sony's strategy this gen, it's big problem is that they are embracing the growing criticism of console gaming that is just PC-lite. It used to be just that it was all the patching, dlc, installs, etc. Now, not only is Sony going with a mid-gen optional hardware upgrade (with many of the options PC gamers have), but they released a niche tech for hobbyists like VR.

It's like they think that console gamers are the exact same as PC gamers, only with less money. In some cases, that is true, but I truly to believe that console gamers on the whole are a different type of gamer.

To be fair Sony isn't the only one with a mid-gen hardware upgrade.

Never expected it to do well. I am not going to spend the same price for an optional enhancement as the console itself.

The games I have seen so far are bad. The potential for a possible future is there, but there has to be some metric shifts to see traction.

There are people who actually thought that a VR headset with no notable games or prospect for notable games, that costs more than the base console its tethered to would sell well?

C'mon people. It's 2016, we just went through a generation of motion controls that swam in gimmick sauce to come out the other side with Sony repackaging their motion dildo and a super expensive headset and now it's gonna work?

Its a colossal waste of time, energy and resources.... And money.

With the experiences I made so far, we need more local mp games on it.

Not sure anyone is losing sleep.

But seriously, I'm not saying it doesn't have worth... Kinect had worth. My kids and I factually played lots of kinect when it came out, it just wasn't a really good long term gaming approach... I may sound a little petty saying this, but I also look at the device itself and the move connection, PS4 pro being recommended for use and so on, and I just can't imagine a bigger turn off.

Ya know what publishers and developers could've done was develop different perspectives for video games and stop pretending that games must be in the first person or third person over the shoulder perspective and approach the games themselves from another angle, rather than shoving a bloated and ridiculous looking device on our faces.

That was actually the premise of the report.

https://www.vg247.com/2016/11/30/vr-was-the-biggest-loser-in-sales-this-year-psvr-sales-forecast-greatly-lowered-superdata/

The report that the thread is based off of is saying that since there is low supply at retail, they are cutting the sales forecast. It's not exactly sound reasoning. If a product was selling out, how would they know? Their only argument for the former is that there isn't a lot of advertising for it. Again, if Sony's strategic data was showing they could sell through stock without an advertising campaign, that is likely what they would do to save money while carrying out other holiday promotions like the temporary price drop on the console hardware and the PSX show.

There is a very real potential for a thread backfire here. If PSVR is selling well, you can expect this thread to become Cow food this weekend. Sony will not be silent about a PSVR success at PSX.

Except everyone stopped talking about VR until this thread appeared.

I am totally on the fence with it at the moment. I love the Batman Arkham games, but wont be paying £400 quid just for that one "experience".

I think its gonna flop like move and kinect did.

Kinect didn't flop. It sold something like 25-30 million units on the 360. The XBox One launch flopped Kinect.

My thoughts. I'd like to play the Batman game but that's it and I'm not spending that kind of money for one game. Now if they drastically reduce it....I might pick it up for the game. Key word might.

@Shewgenja: Kinnect was a flop, its just that MS decided to try again with a second version which also flopped HARD. The only reason the first had nice numbers is because it was part of a sku that lots of parents and kids got suckered into buying.

The good ol' systemwars not even reading articles properly. You can't sell what you can't provide.

Llamas added that Sony may be deliberately limiting PSVR supply until it can do a better job with supporting the platform.

No you don't, it's the Nintendoland approach of one player having a special situation. Look at games like "Kepp talking and nobody explodes" or "Playroom VR" to understand

Still as a whole VR sold pretty well considering its pricing. There is a decent install base now of 7+ million. That is not bad for half a year.

Called this from day one with ALL VR. Cool gimmick, but ultimately most gamers want to play with a controller on the couch, or with a handheld. Until the price falls drastically, it's completely wireless, lighter, less bulky, more accessible, and technology catches up to the idea it just isn't worth the investment on EITHER front.

Looks like I am serving the crow hot.. come get your plates. You know who you are. :)

Not as much as you think. Most people who are buying 4K on consoles are either doing so just because they want the latest thing or plan to buy a 4KTV sometime in the future. Sony knows this and isn't concerned about it. Less than 5% of console gamers actually have a 4KTV and less than 1% have one with HDR support. Anyone buying a Scorpio will fall under this same umbrella until 4K becomes the standard 5 or 7 years from now. Sony has plenty of time. They are the snake in the grass and are more experienced at this than Microsoft. (Or Nintendo for that matter)

This is me of saying that 4K is taking over VR spot, for now at least.
