Wait so SSFIV sold well and they're... I'm confused...

Capcom could just say that they do not want to. It would make them look more honest. After all the strong support the Capcom has given PC this gen so far, I somewhat find it surprising that they won't say they do not feel like doing it.
PC gamers have a bad rep with piracy
PC gamers aren't too fond of the concept of paid DLC
It's not in Capcom's best interest to do so (Even though It would be great for PC only gamers)
Well, PC gamers certainly would have bought the Resident Evil 5 DLC. At least, I would have... but they didn't release that either.[QUOTE="Ultizer"]
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=116609
SF4 was also Pirated pretty bad on 360, also SF4 came out 6 months later when everyone else allready bought it on consoles, also GFWL before steam = major floppage, PC gamers hate GFWL
This has more to do with DLC imo, Capcom abuse DLC like mad, they cant sell PC gamers $10 costumes when we can get them for free (Mods)
Same reason they nerfed MW2 on PC, to sell the Map packs (MW1/WAW got the map packs for free)
Do capcom make PSP games anymore? PSP is pretty much dead due to Piracy

I think he's being honest, this is just a matter of developers wanting to protect their property. Some developers don't like their games being pirated to hell and back regardless of sales. PC gamers always hate on companies when they quote torrent statistics, but can you really blame them for being bothered about it?
While SF4 was probably pirated a lot on 360, it's unlikely it was pirated as much as it was on PC. That's just the difference in nature between the two platforms. And yeah, Capcom really doesn't support the PSP anymore, but it's probably for the exact same reason. They announced an RE game for it and mysteriously nothing ever came from it.
But there's still a market for profit there. Sure the 360 doesn't get pirated as much, because it's a hell of a lot easier to pirate for the PC. What is the logic of neglecting a profitable market, because of something Capcom can't possibly have any control over? At least for now...
You guys speak as if piracy isn't a completely normal and frequent thing found on any medium. What if people actually start to find ways of pirating consoles more easily as we keep going on, will Capcom neglect every single costumer that is buying their product based on what Joey decided to do that day with a torrent?
I can't magically click my heels and automatically stop piracy from happening, the only people who can do something about this are the companies themselves. What I can do is buy their game if I'm interested and apparently that paid off for them, wth else is needed? I have absolutely no doubts that was piracy as easy and accessible on consoles as it is on the PC we'd all be seeing this problem on a whole different spectrum.
PC gaming just spilled over to consoles.More proff that pc last gen was better then this gen.
EdenProxy
thats a completly emotional decision...jumping ship because the level of piracy makes you angry is a completly nonsensical thing to do. osan0Not it isn't when the demographics are overlapping. Anyone interested in a game like SSFIV probably has a console and if they don't then they can get a $200 arcade. You are still leaving potential customers with options.
That doesn't make sense logically or financially ,but whatever. A pirated copy does not equal a lost sale. The series is new on PC, I'm pretty sure people just wanted to try it out.

I can prove it had low sales compared to the consoles.[QUOTE="dc337"]
[QUOTE="Snagal123"]
Would you like to provide the evidence that it had "low sales" despite Capcom saying the opposite?
Captain__Tripps
That is only NA. And if it did sell poorly, its not very surprising. There is virtually no market for mainstream fighting games on PC, im surprised they would say it had strong sales... Makes no sense if sold a decent amount to not bring future games.
Not to mention you can't easily track DD sales (and SFIV was on Steam).so there's too much piracy to release a new version of a game that sold well??
Capcom is quickly losing my favor..
Not it isn't when the demographics are overlapping. Anyone interested in a game like SSFIV probably has a console and if they don't then they can get a $200 arcade. I just don't get why no other factors are taken into account other than piracy.
I mean take a game, 20 years on consoles, and make a version for the PC, but release it months after the console release.
First off I guarantee 90% of the fanbase has a console to play it, and second off it's those months of waiting when those few remaining fans would just say "fudge it" and buy a console anyways.
Even piracy has multiple factors to it. Sure, there certainly is a large group of people who won't pay because they would prefer to steal it, but I remember with that Humble Indie Bundle the devs mentioned how huge of a response they got from gamers all over the world who just could not possibly pay because of restrictions within their regions. With how huge PC gaming is around the world I'd have to assume there are just tons of people who are just not capable of paying because of these laws, and therefore they pirate.
There's a few sensible devs left, but many of them use piracy as a scapegoat. You won't be seeing Activision drop support for CoD on the PC after 4 million MW2 copies were pirated. In fact you see them now putting dedicated servers back into the game because those 4 million pirated copies were a message from all the angry gamers out there who felt backstabbed by Activision after supporting CoD from the beginning.
Point being don't expect 20 year old franchises to make it big on the first shot on the PC, don't expect shooters to sell better on the PS3 than on the 360, old ports to sell well, etc etc.
There's more factors than "just piracy" that lead to low sales
another example of why PC gaming is inferior to console gaming....
ProjectNatalFan
Could I ask how this is a "example of why Pc Gaming is inferior to console gaming?" Just wanna see what actual objectivity could be formed from that comment. Also, if this is one of "many" as you imply "another", could I ask what other "examples" you have to just throw out that claim? So far, Not seeing much to just throw out a statement like that.
 god you pc apologists.
Despite strong sales of SFIV...could mean, we got 300k sales...but we looked at the figures and 2 million were playing it...so thats 300k sales and 1.7 million piratred copies.
but wait it couldn't be that! lets pull out but but but the GFWL, its not on steam...ect...ect *remember folks there are no pirates and or cheaters on steam...ever*

Sure it could, but does it actually say that? Is there any bit of info besides Capcom telling us the game sold well that even correlates to what you're talking about?
When a company tells me that the game sold well, naturally I assume that they made a healthy profit on it, hence the questioning. I don't see why it's so unnatural for a person to question a company that states a product of them sold well, only to not continue betting on that profit margin.
Or maybe people should just categorize me as a hermit who doesn't see anything else in front of him when it comes to gaming and be done with it. It would sure follow the spirit of the place. Or some of you people could still continue to hate a gaming platform for no apparent reason--that fits too.
They did everything wrong, they released the game on GFWL, released it half a year later than the console versions after everyone had already played it and there was no hype even left for the game and then try to make PC gamers pay for mods. (DLC) Its easier to blame piracy for their poor sales then to admit that they messed up... again.
I lost interest in the Street Fighter games ever since Street Fighter Alpha on PSX, Every time I play another Street Fighter game I feel like im playing the same game I played 10+ years ago and get bored. Been there... done that...

Monster hunter would love a word with you and im pretty sure Monster hunter fredom unite is probably one of the biggest flagship titles for PSP until Portable 3rd comes out soon.
PSP isnt dead due to piracy thats like saying PC's dead due to piracy sure its easy to pirate PSP games but tbh your an absolute mug if you pirate and pretty idiotic at that. But all i see from TC is hermit baww.

Piracy. It's the new excuse for developers to get away from the PC platform, because they're unable to abuse the audience with cheap DLC like costumes and map packs. Merex760
There is nothing new about this excuse unless you were born yesterday. How many devleopers have to say this before many gamers stop accusing it of being a smoke screen?
Meh it's their loss.
PC gaming is booming and is generating 43% of the revenue, while second place is the Wii with a lowly 24%.
People are too stuck on botched up sales that only list America and not all digital downloads.
Europe is actually very popular with PC games and so are many other countries besides America.
Also Digital Sales have easily overtaken retail so using retail as an estimate or one country is complete BS.
Using piracy is an excuse and a lame cop out.
Well why do you think? It was a trash of a PC game. Taking away mods, lean, dedicated servers, custom maps on top of that the game cost more...It was a console port simple as that took away everything people brought the game for and that was the online.the level of piracy is just scary on pc. i hear that mw2 was downloaded like 4.5 million times.

still a piss poor reason to pirate it i think....if you didnt like it why even bother playing it...oh wait some PC gamers think they are entitled to everything *rolls eyes*

Still, it's ridiculous people have this mentality.

yup i see it all the time on a forum of a server i used to help run on SAMP where one poster basically said im a student i dont have a job so i pirate games cause im too lazy to get a job and study too much that was a total kick to my teeth purely cause i work my ass off,go to college, pay rent money and still can afford the better things in life ;S
Or another one went well i would rather spend it on other things like clothes what so you buy a new wardrobe every week..
Needless to say said community has been invaded by a bunch of silly little 13 y/o kids slowing killing the server (which is happened) and the owner doesnt have the time to run it since he's at uni and got a job and they baww at him for doing so :S wish some people would get a reality check in all areas...even worse a lot of SAMP servers couldnt give a rats ass bout piracy now even tho the GTA SA is still on the shelf...

theres no excuse for piracy of a game newer than 10 years

Some kids grow up too spoilt and have the "I need it" mentality. I'm in the same boat where i'm in uni, have a job (between school and work a good chunk of my week is gone), and am moving in with my GF at the end of this school year. If I can't afford the game, I don't buy it. Chances are when I get around to buying it, it'll be cheap anyway :P
It would take a united PC gaming community to trample down on their anti-piracy models.
flashn00b
a step in the right direction is to lure these pirates round...pretty much an impossible task.Draconian DRM doesnt work,Steam DRM gets cracked eventually :S its a vicious cycle of the pirates dick measuring and trying to be anti establishment like a bunch ofscenester (a few of em in glasgowmusic scene like)who pirate music and dont support the scene itself with buyin the merch and the cd's and talk to the bands yeh your musics awesome but i just downloaded it.
Makes me sadface as my mates band is plannin on launchin an EP and t-shirt for a mere tenner in the future if all goes to plan.
I think this is pretty old news. I also wonder why they bother, considering fighting games aren't exactly a PC-centric genre. Its like trying to convince console players to buy RTS games...there's not a huge following there for that genre...http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=116609
