Crysis is a perfect example of preventing piracy because it requires paying so much money first on the hardware before even getting the game. Since pirates are cheap people anyways why would they get that. ;)

To be honest, capcom probably understood that they will not be able to scam PC gamers with a mere update of SF4(SSF4) since PC gamers can get that content for free with mods for SF4.Arach666That's exactly what I think. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will probably be released for PC like any other Capcom game that isn't a $60 update.
Oh piracy, is it?
Guess it has nothing to do with most PC gamers not liking fighters. Or that fighters in general play better on consoles...

It has nothing to do with PC gamers not liking fighters since that's false, but more to do with the fanbase for fighers is larger on the consoles. It'd be like saying PS3 gamers hate shooters even though they buy millions of them, but of course they all do much better on the 360.
And fighters playing better on consoles doesn't make sense when a PC can use a 360 controller, PS3 controller, or most any arcade stick

I doubt it.
Crysis is a great benchmark to see how pro your PC is. It definitely had strong sales, but I'm willing to bet it's high piracy rate had a lot to do with people pirating it to test out their new rigs no matter if they have a budget, or high end rig.
Well, they do have a point here. Piracy is on all systems now, but on the PC it's the most rampant. Still, if the sales were good, I think they could still bring it over.

But usually only the 360 pad autoconfigures, and not always then. Because what's button 1 on one controller (say, the left face button or Square) is button 5 on another (button 1 there is the left shoulder bumper or L1). It's one unwholesome quirk of using gamepads on the PC, unfortunately.[QUOTE="Raymundo_Manuel"][QUOTE="coreybg"]

Oh right it doesn''t work lol. Pretty much every new game that supports controllers works fine with a 360 controller, if you want to use something else it takes some work, or might not work properly.Just so you know Capcom, you just lost a sale! Nah, maybe I'll get it on PS3 or 3DS some day. But I am disappointed in joo Capcom. PC gamers like the street figherz too
That's a strange opinion to me. I know loads of people who pirate their movies, tv shows, and music, because it's so trivially easy. But they go out and spend 30, 40, 50 euro a pop on each game. When piracy is so easy, it's the path of least resistance, and loads of people take it. When paying for for it is the only option, or at least the easiest, safest option, they tend to take that. In my experience.*traditional round of crysis pics* :P.
seriously stardock made a very interesting point about their view on piracy. they just dont consider pirates as possible customers. so if a game sells 250,000 then thats your market. its not 250,000+ pirated copies or a certain percentage of pirated copies...its 250,000 and you make the game for that 250,000.
SF was late and brought to a platform that has a very limited fanbase for beat em ups. if it sold more than 100,000 on the PC then i would be very surprised. so capcom shouldnt be thinking "oh but it was pirated X amount of times so were not going to bother". they only question they should be asking is "did the PC version pay for itself and turn a tidy profit?". if it didnt then fair enough. if it did (and if capcom are talking about strong sales for it on the PC then it probably did) then they are very fricking stupid for not bringing it to the PC.
this business of "oh it was pirated alot so theres no point" is absolutely stupid and any company that thinks like that shouldnt be in business to be frank. if a game is profitable then job done....the effort was worth it and you target your next project at those people who did buy it and budget accodringly. whether its 200,000 or 2million...make the games for your existing customers. also DLC does sell on the PC..this idea of PC gamers being smart enough not to buy it....an illusion. the map packs for MW2 sell loads (it was in the top 10 selling items on steam for ages). so if capcom cant sell DLC for their PC versions then there doing something very wrong.

Piracy. It's the new excuse for developers to get away from the PC platform, because they're unable to abuse the audience with cheap DLC like costumes and map packs. Merex760MW2 proved you can get away with a lot on PC.
Don't know if this has been discussed as well, but I just read that they are also planning on porting the Arcade version to consoles.
lol@all those who believe Capcom and bought SSFIV thinking they wouldn't release a newer version of it
That makes no sense though, you're either happy with sales, upset with sales, or upset with pirates.[QUOTE="Merex760"]Piracy. Why are hermits acting like costumes and mappacks are all thats on the pc version? It also has 6 new characters and no there is no pc mod that allows you to play as them .
That's simply because the arcade version of SSFIV (and indeed SFIV itself) runs on the Taito Type X2 system--essentially a Windows XP machine.Don't know if this has been discussed as well, but I just read that they are also planning on porting the Arcade version to consoles.

but but buh PC is da besstAndrovinusComparing it to consoles duh. But, this is a PC self-crit thread.
These are the same guys that are disappointed with 2.7 million copies sold of DMC4. They seem to have unrealistic expectations of the industry. They need to realise that every game on PC is going to get pirated to hell and back. If it's selling well, like SF4, then it's a success. They have to measure their success on the PC platform through the sales not the number of times it was pirated.

Its very easy to play pirated copies of GFWL games online
thats one of the reasons why Steam exclusvie is always the best
Snagal123
I didn't know that.
I agree Steam is what makes sense but they don't want it to be Steam exclusive. This whole thing makes no sense, the game sold well, SSF4 for PC is basically done already, seems they are just looking for excuses not to release it, no real reasons.
and gfwl exclusive is somehow better? both can be bought from the shop and both have to be connected to the internet to work, but gfwl is highly hated while many people like steam. Steam is starting to take over now though. thq and 2k now use steamworks in all their games as well as many other games like just cause 2 ,fear 2 mw2, fallout new vegas and many others. gfwl is slowly losing publishers.[QUOTE="kobraka1"]

the piracy part of Crysis?
pretty sure Crysis sold very well on PC
Crytek wanted Crysis 2 on consoles after seeing the amount of sales MW2 pulled in (why else would they be claiming its a Halo killer?) so the Crytek CEO said for every copy of crysis bought, 20 were pirated, yeah sure 25million people have played Crysis
Piracy is a good scapegoat
It will be a great game but wont sell anywhere near that of mw2 or anything call of duty or halo in it. Maybe then he will go back to making game without console limitations.I have to say, what i'm getting from PC gamers is, companies use piracy as an excuse and it's the consumer that gets hurt.
How about pirates help themselves to games without paying and it's the consumers that get hurt.
Also MW2 pirated out of protest because the game wasn't made the way PC gamers think they were owed, or something. :? that doesn't make it ok.
It seems the PC gamers are making excuses to me.
Stop excusing piracy, it's really not ok and yes it is a problem. There is a reason Publisher make DRM which irritates people.
Piracy is a problem, that's why Ubisoft thought it necessary to have an always online DRM (even if it was misguided and irritating).
I'm not saying all PC gamers pirate, but I have noticed that people in general tend to make a lot of excuses for them regardless of the medium they are pirating.
