Why so series TC? WTF?games are in fact meant to be fun that is their reason for existenceSure. If thats whatyou want to call it
SMG is a great game, as is LBP i have no brain because i enjoy them?Do you like to play them alone, even after you beat the story mode?
somebody is a raging fanboy if they believe that gears dept? lol that story is as half-baked as halo's would be without the books TF2 has moar depth than gears, actually it has moar depth than most shooters if you thin games like gears and fable have depth i pity you you need to play games with true depth Civilization, Galactic Civilization, Total war, Sins of a Solar Empire these are games with true depth that far outdo the shallow shooters and glorified action games. Sorry I enjoy playing games online with friends, and none of them play obscure titles like those.

Fun = "activities that are enjoyable or amusing"
Fun is what games, and any entertainment is about, it's just that "fun" is a very subjective concept. I'm sure that a developer making a strategy game wants it to be fun, it just doesn't have to be fun for everybody, only for people who they are targeting.
Every game is not made with the HARDCORE gamer in mind. Overall games are made for fun. Whoever develops the game will make it fun for whomever they TARGET. While some might believe using a chainsaw bayonett to saw the guts out of a Locuts beast is FUN.....some might see it as Horror or just plain disturbing.Every game on the Market wont satisfy all. IIJuggaNottIIBasically this.
Tho I agree with TC that when trying to look things objectively "fun" is no excuse for poor games, we have certain standards that can be defined and fun alone just doesn't cut it.

If thats whatyou want to call it Well i dont know about you, but when i was little and played a game with my friends, we did it for fun. thats why they are called games. they are ment for entertainment and fun, ill be technical here for a moment an amusement or pastime: children's games. is the definition of 'game'

Daemon is the original spelling I believe but also refers to a background process in unix circles.

"Games are meant to be fun!" Is a lame excuse for defending shallow gameplay.
Guess what guys? People have different ideas of what is "fun". I find games like Deus Ex, Thief, X-Com, Civilization etc. fun even (or more like BECAUSE) they are complex and have depth. I honestly find most games with simple/shallow gameplay to be extremely boring after 5 minutes, yeah I may have liked those when I was three years old but I'd rather play games that require me to use my brain thank you very much.

- but lets face it: we don't party all the time, so the games that have depth are the ones of real value.
- Anyone who sits at home alone and playsSMG LBP or Wii Sports has no brain, and if they try to defend it against playing games like Gears 2 or MGS4 they can refer to my last few paragraphs for reasons they are stupid.

[QUOTE="KG86"]Since when do SMG and LBP have no depth?wzbosonnot really, SMG has no multiplayer, and LBP has no story for what you'll be playing 90% of the time Depth = multiplayer? Simcity has no story line, most fighting games don't have a legitimate storyline (a story thats introduced only after you beat the game doesn't count), yet these are all valid games. I gotta say that I totally disagree with you on pretty much everything you said in your orignal post. If a game isn't fun, I don't know what the point of playing it is. To be bored? To reduce the level of joy in your life?

Tetris, Sports Games, Racing Games, and most Sims must not be fun because they have no story either!
IIJuggaNottIIAnd this is why people bash the Wii. Oh, and i agree with you 100% by the way.
Many of you may have heard this phrase used to defend games like wii sports and LBP when compared to games like Gears 2 Fable and MGS4. The idea many people have is that games are meant to be mindless fun with no depth at all, and that any endeavors towards depth realism or story make the game boring. This is concept not present in any other form of media, and is used primarily by wii fanboys, because their system is less capable of approaching realism, and more suitable towards games like deca sports.
TeH COLORRSS! I'm also sick of people pointing to games like gears COD and resistances graphics, and saying that they are inferior to say, mario galaxy, because they like color. What color do you think war is? Pink and green?
Games have come a long way, and can now be enjoyed like a good book, or as party games, but lets face it: we don't party all the time, so the games that have depth are the ones of real value. Anyone who sits at home alone and plays SMG LBP or Wii Sports has no brain, and if they try to defend it against playing games like Gears 2 or MGS4 they can refer to my last few paragraphs for reasons they are stupid.
The Wii is a console that is meant for playing together with your FAMILY. Thats why a majority of the games have multiplayer and no storyline. And im not talking about games like CoD because i can't even go one round without somebody saying "STOP LOOKING AT MY PORTION OF THE SCREEN!!!!" So before you go around bashing a console, learn what its really used for. Oh, and SMG is a good game. Many of you may have heard this phrase used to defend games like wii sports and LBP when compared to games like Gears 2 Fable and MGS4. Oh, I am well aware of them, but: 1. I don't have a gaming PC, like most gamers today 2. My friends wouldn't even know what those are, so no matter how much depth they have, I would have to explore it with strangersI really, really, really want to know just what was going through your head when you decided to make this topic. Same thing as my above post. I do think games are for fun.
My problem is mainly with *wii* gamers that act like fun can only be mindless, bright and colorful.
I have seen people use this argument to say that wii sports is better than geow2.
Also, an interesting issue that has stemmed from this is whether fun and entertainment are synonomous.

I don't know about you, but I have fun playing video games...that is the reason why I play them. The fun stops when your system dies due to crappy hardware. That part sucks and isn't as much fun.

wrong I have played wii. I played zelda, metroid, mario kart, SMG, wii sports and brawl. There are popcorn movies and there are those that have deep story. But in the end, the first thing a game/movie must be is enjoyable/fun. If it doesnt cross that barrier, then it doesnt matter how deep it is.

Sorry, I know I have missed a lot of posts, for I am trying to respond to a little from everything. Depth in my opinion, is the ability to go deeper into the game in terms of story (getting really into) or skill. Obviously multiplayer increases the skill aspect of this, because you can become a master of the gameplay, and compare yourself to other opponents. SMG doesn't have any multiplayer, and there isn't that much depth to the single player gameplay. I guess I have to accept that I am going to have to reitterate the same points over and over and over and over again. Please Log In to post.
