To answer the TC : I will most likely do what I have done for previous generations of gaming. I will buy all the machines, and then let the software entice me. I will still have my opinions on the direction of the gaming companies from Capcom to Activision to the console manufacturers, but mainly I will just buy the games that interest me, platform be damned. :) I can say that I'm not excited about the direction of the Xbrand lately (Kinect, timed exclusives, timed DLC, Xbox Live pricing hike and direction towards apps, 1st party handling), but I remain optimistic that the 720 won't be as bad as some believe. The beginning of the 360 started great, so perhaps the 720 will start with a bang as well. :P

Microsoft has been doing a great job and next generation is their time. I'm curious to see how everything plays out as RROD will most likely not be a problem next generation. The Xbox 360 still has a disc tray as well, so they will probably be upgrading that too. I just don't see the next Playstation being improved upon much with how its hardware looks right now. It already has Blu-ray, no disc tray, etc., etc., but the next Xbox will truly be taking advantage into next generation.

Of course, in the here and now, only the console versions are available to buy. The good news is that both Xbox 360 and PlayStation games come highly recommended, and the graphical differences have no meaningful impact on either the overall look of the game or the gameplay. The frame-rate drops, although more noticeable on the PS3 aren't exactly a big deal and the additional tearing we see on the Sony platform didn't affect our enjoyment of the game.

It's the Bullet Time sequences that hit hardest, in tandem with one too many characters on-screen that cuts into the responsiveness of the PS3 version. This makes for some especially jarring 12FPS (!) motion during one particular shoot-out in the club stage, partially mitigated by the fact it's all in slow motion.

There are occasions where we also find the PS3 stutters when returning fire during the "last chance" shoot-outs (where you need to shoot your assailant to survive).

There is also the curious issue of missing effects during specific PS3 cut-scenes, though these crop up in entirely isolated instances, where in other areas they're rendered properly. These small nips and tucks are evidently to the benefit of the frame-rate on PS3, which otherwise isn't quite as consistent as the 360 during the majority of shoot-outs.

For multi-platform owners unsure of which version to opt for, we'd have to give a nod to the 360 version.

(Xbox 360) tho they pretty much look the same, and not really worth mentioning. imo tie.

As for consoles, depends since i need to see what both MS & Sony have on offer and will decide which console to get (first)...

I'm a gamer, and I'll buy whatever console has the games that interest me. This generation it was all 3 consoles. Right now the only console that is sort of interesting me next gen is the Wii-U, but we will see when more specifics are released. I may just be a PC gamer next gen.
