Cod says hi.sethman410
The fact that we are talking about single player games with lengthy campaigns responds with an unenthusiastic wave.

Make better games that are worth the $60 price tag.

enuff said.

But unfortunately, that's in LaLa Land.

Why should every game be worth the 60$ though. What if I want to make a game that is worth only 30 or 40$. Not every developer can afford to spend 20 millions on a game. Not every game has the same value so why the same price.

But if I'm gonna sell my game boxed for 30 bucks I'm not going to win much am I? DD would be the only way to make a profit from my not so blockbuster game. The 60$ price tag is a bit harmful to the small devs who can't afford millions in developing and marketing because they can't offer a more competitive price.

I have to agree that's an upside with digital distribution, as much as I like my physical media.

Earlier today I saw this Tweet from Cliffy B.:

"http://aol.it/itAtNF It's official. RIP disc based Single Player games that are less than 20+ hours in length."

MrSelf-Destruct

The title of this thread and the title of the article say two very different things. Misleading.

Games already cost alot as it is, Redbox selling games will def. bring in a bunch of gamers who don't want to spend $60 dollars on a game.

I can definitely see why DD culd be better from a dev's perspective, but I don't like it! Even on PC I would rather have the hard copy.

Seems to me like a lot of the users don't even read the OP.

And Red Box and Netflix can go to hell, I'd like my rental stores back. :( Red box is especially crappy, with their pathetic BR selection.

Um... The title of the thread is a direct quote. How is it misleading? :|

Maybe I didn't word properly.

I'm not saying every game should have a standard $60 price tag. Even I never spend that much on games in this gen. I was only saying $60 is the NORM price range for this generation for most (hardcopy) games, therefore (hardcopy) games should atleast live up to that price tag.

Rentals have always been a problem for console devs but they have still done well so I doubt everything would crumble just because Red Box is allowing 2 dollar rentals.

i can own one for 60 bucks or less ya every day that 2dollars adds up im better off with buying it ,

plus what if ur system breaks it you have tobuy it any way so there goes the 2 dollars per night plus the cost of actually buying it off thestore ,,ya no way will i ever be renting disc based games or dvds, ur responsible regardles of how it gets damaged ,

and im not driving just to return them every night sorry

I dont think RedBox is going to mean squat. Think about it. Right now you can go to Gamestop, pick up a used game, and return it within a week for a full refund...basically a free rental. So why would I or anyone else mess with RedBox unless there isnt a Gamestop in the area (which is not likely)? I dont have a Twitter account...cant stand it myself. Maybe someone who does can tweet back to Cliffy B and tell him the solution is simple: You want us to buy $60 games? Then dont rip us off with a single player only game that doesnt last more than 10-12 hours. If developers expect people to pay $60 for games, give them a reason to think the price hike is worth it...and I'm not talking about dolled up cut scenes either. For those that dont have jobs paying more than $10-15 an hour, $60 is a significant portion of their weekly income. Taking other bills into account, it might not even be affordable. I have no sympathy for the devs in this case. Heavenly Sword is the only game I own that falls in this category. I waited until the price dropped to around $35 to buy it. I loved the demo, and have played it through a few times, but I still refused to pay $60 for that little of content.

Disc will be gone, but all it takes is 1 court order, and rental and used game sales can be stopped

I find it funny though that when devs complain about why they aren't making money on PC many people agree. Now that they are doing it about consoles people seem to think they should just suck it up :| .
