"garbage like the cell"????????????

It took three of Nvidia's best card to run the Samaritan demo. I wouldn't expect consoles to run that anytime soon without costing an arm and a leg. Plus, the good thing about consoles is the amount of optimization they allow the developers. If current consoles can put out the kind of games we're seeing with the dated hardware they got now I'd imagine the 5770 would be able to keep us impressed for at least a few years. MrSelf-DestructThey[epic] said that they could get it down to 1 580 with optimization. And a 5770 in a couple years, I'd be pissed, I have a 5850, which is quite a good bit better.
[QUOTE="Inconsistancy"]Last I heard 'bout that, they just said that they weren't going to buy production facilities for garbage like the cell again -.-, not like they're going down the wii route..mztazmz

Carmack seemed to hate it.. Said something along the lies of "it slows to a crawl if anything is vaguely off, and it's not obvious things.." And that it took a ton more work to get it to run.Fine by me. The days of graphics and console power need to take a step back and make way for what truly matters. Gameplay.
[QUOTE="johnlennon28"]360's hardware is crapwaltefmoney
360 and PS3 are nearly identical in performance. :|
And the 360's video card is a good bit better than the silly pos in the ps3.Also, (I know I've said this a million times 'bout the 360...) on release, it had the best single gpu on the market, so it really wasn't crap at all.
[QUOTE="SPYDER0416"]yup this... this is all i ever ask for in new generations of hardware. your sig is so out of date and so wrong, i play my games on 1080p through HDMI and the 360 makes less sound than a Ps3 when you install the games to the HDD, anyway, it worked for MS this gen, standardised hardware on the cheap, i can see where SONY are coming from, they sank all there money into new technology and it ended up only being marginally more powerful than a much cheaper to produce console, SONY has always done well having the weaker console anyway, PS1 was weaker than the N64 yet it trounced it and the Ps2 was the weakest of all the consoles apart from the DC last gen yet it still came out tops.I don't want them investing on a bundle of hardware and peripherals anyways. Just give us a powerful next gen system that works like now (but powerful enough to be next gen) and I'm good. I'm fine with the current controller design anyways.
campzor
That might just mean they wont go with a different cpu architecture and they might as well go with a decent 4/8core x86 CPU. The only downside to that would be backward compatibility but other than that i think it would be better to go x86adamosmakiBrute force emulation imo :D
Sony should look at this gen´s Microsoft. Theydevelopped an equally powerfull console with half the resourses and hype. Just invest a bit more and make is reliable.
PAL360
I'd suggest the same thing, but my 360 has took a **** 5 times now and I'd hate to see Sony go that route. I'd much rather see them try to make their next console Nitnendo-quality. That stuff is indestructable I tell ya!

My PCs have been pretty indestructible, last one lasted ~40k hours on, I say, Sony just make a normal sized pc, and call it a console. :D None of those silly overheating problems.[QUOTE="PAL360"]

Well, then they should do a 50/50.
I like new consoles to be at least 4 times more powerfull than previous ones :P

My video card, I think.., is rated at >6x more powerful x.x (a measly 5850)[QUOTE="mojosodopee"]It just means they didn't buy facilities and aren't going to push a new format (most likely).... but arent you guessing? :roll:If this is true i won't be getting a playstation 4, i want the best of the best when it comes to gaming. I'll hate to do it but ill go back to xbox

If anything, Sony may wind up going the Wii route in terms of power & graphics the next time around.
[QUOTE="Jynxzor"][QUOTE="hockeyruler12"]That doesn't mean much really, Nintendo pulled the Wii and DS out of it's behind while suffering from the bomb of the Gamecube. It's always possible that a tight budget might make them rethink adding rediculously expensive equipment and less time spent researching peripherals for the system that don't come out for years "Sup move". Saying that the PS4 will suck because of a stringest development budget isn't the best way to think about it. Sounds more like they aren't going to fund wastefull spending. I don't think it will suck, but it may not be as impressive as the PS3 hardware was at launch. Xbox might be the most powerful console, which actually might be bad for MS, as the most powerful console has not won the past 2 generations in sales. not because of power though... because of market saturation mostly.http://www.industrygamers.com/news/sony-wont-make-massive-investment-in-ps4/

Or if Chrome's history wasn't poorly implemented garbage. If this is true i won't be getting a playstation 4, i want the best of the best when it comes to gaming. This is good, maybe I will be able to buy their console! Im not being sarcastic either. I am poor and dont have a job yet (hopefully I get hired in the upcoming week or so).
Nintendo is making a console barely more powerful than the current ones, Microsoft will most likely build a console around kinect and Sony realised that console business is not that profitable after all. Is this the beginning of the end for console gaming as we know it? Good thing pc gaming will always be here for everyone.SamiRDuran
But the specs havent been officially announced or confirmed by Nintendo:|
Invest - to put (money) to use, by purchase or expenditure, in something offering potential profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation in value. Just sounds like they're not as likely to make it more out of more valuable parts than it's sale price and not push a new tech with it, says nothing about final price, that can still be high. This is good, maybe I will be able to buy their console! My specs of PS3:
GPU: Imagination Technologies Rogue Power VR 6, SGX6RMP8 ,
256bit UMA 4Gb GDDR5 ram, 132 GB/s Bandwidth at 800 Mhrz
8 core GPU, 8x210GFlops=1680GFlops,
8x5=40 Billions per second visible pixel fillrate (Forward rendered), 8x13=104 Billions per second visible pixel fillrate (Deferred Render)
Peak Polygon rate: 8x350= 2800 million polygons per second ( In game with all effects only 700 Million polygons per second and 22.33 Millions polygons per frame if 30 frames per second**)
** Thats about 12x times the poly count of Uncharted 2.
OpenGL and DirectX and can do all new effects DX11+ if coded.
TDP is 15 watt per core***= 120 watt in 40nm but when ps4 arrives at 20nm it will get sliced to 60watt for gpu. *** Power VR 6 Rogue specs
CPU:
IBM 7 derative 6 core ( two core disabled) and cpu is ``out of order`` meaning each core is many many times faster than cell PPE.
3.4 Ghrz x 6
TDP: 90watt in 22nm **** ****IBM power 7 specs: 240 watt tdp for 8 core version 3.4 Ghrz at 45nm
And system is max 200 watt total
And offcourse a faster Blueray drive and 500GB HDD
Price: 399.99 US dollar, E3 2012, Release date: Q1 2013,This doesn't mean they will make the weakest system. Sony is all about pride and excellence and only the best, they always try to have the best tech products out there. See their other products. This just means they won't bother with facilities trying to make another so called "The Cell" chip all over again. This proved wasteful to them.

Basically this ^
Sony isnt going to spend tons of cash on R&D, they'll go a more standard route, decent vid card, cpu, etc. But no new disc format or "DA CELL 2" BS.
Keep it simple and keep it strong, is probably what they're aiming at.

Uh thanks, though I already knew the meaning of Invest. Besides, you cant invest in something if you dont have the money.
Cheap hardware? I sure hope their launch batch of consoles last more than 3 years this time. YLOD and RROD, I've suffered them both multiple times.
My thoughts exactly. I can just see sony announcing ps4 and the graphics be exactly like the ps3 or even worst. I was hoping ps4 games will look twice as good as witcher 2 & killzone 3 but now i can forget about it.If anything, Sony may wind up going the Wii route in terms of power & graphics the next time around.

Not at all it can still be pretty powerful, remember the PS3 high cost was do to a new format,XDR and Cell,Replace XDR by normal DDR now which is cheaper, replace Cell with a PC CPU which also mean it would be cheaper than Cell was on 2006,and add Blu-Ray as the medium which now is way cheaper, and would be even more cheaper when the next gen arrive. And you have a pretty powerful console that cost allot less to manufacture. What they mean by that probably is saying hey we will not use a new medium for games, considering Blu-Ray still has allot of space,we will not use some fancy Ram or Custom build CPU,they will probably get a Nvidia GPU like the RSX,probably more powerful than the RSX by time frame.http://www.industrygamers.com/news/sony-wont-make-massive-investment-in-ps4/

Not surprising. Sony invests a lot in the PS3 and people decide to buy the console that breaks, that charges for online and that has overpriced accesories which makes it end up costing more than the PS3. Investing is not worth it when people buy based on hype. Better invest $500 million hyping a gimmick like Kinect and be done with it.kuraimenHey. Say what you will about the 360's milkage factor, but the lower price and smoother, more solid online element played an important role in its success.
Did people read the source material?
They basically said that they will never invest into hardware like they did with the PS3. Seems like the reasonable conclusion to me. Beyond that, there is no need for any conjecture, as they really didn't leave anything out there to make such leaps.

You either started gaming this generation or you pretend the PS1 and PS2 werent underpowered compared to the competition :P
