Super Meat Boy for me for sure (with DKCR a distant second). Unless we're including 3d in which case Mario Galaxy 2.

[QUOTE="Captain_Lorelli"]

Maybe graphically and sound wise..but as pure level desgin goes NSMBW kicks its ass..

Juken7

I honestly think the 2d Mario games have been surpassed by many platformers this gen and people are just slow to adjust because of the Mario name. I found NSMB Wii level design only picked up in the final two worlds, and it was fairly meh up to that point.

I disagree. The levels are made to be accessible and challenging all while allowing a seamless 1-4 player experience. There is even a bonus world for those seeking an extra challenge. It was nothing to do with the "Mario" name it is the pure layout of jumps, platforms and all around pacing and difficulty.

Yup. The NSMB games are uninspired and bland, but the core design is rock solid.

I don't know, I honestly don't think it's all that good. It doesn't flow that well, but maybe that's just because I'm still in the early stages. I honestly think the free flash game N, and it's XBLA counterpart, N+, are the best platformers ever made.

It definitely the best 2d platformer, I still believe SMG2 is the best all around platformer though, but I will be picking up Legends when I get a Wii U.

It's called origins because it goes back to the franchises origins, which is 2d platforming.

Why not go back to its origins then? Well designed, challenging, uncasualized, indepth, thinking ahead, puzzle solving, wide variety of powers, Mr.Dark, Wizard, Batillda the fiary Rayman then? It didn't go back to jack. In fact to be honest, there hadn't been a Rayman ame before it really (Raving rabbits? lol.) so i believe that they are not really going back to anything.

Really depends I guess.

If you have 4 really skilled players it can be a blast and some of the things that happen are just amazing to see. Though not all the levels accommodate it well.

If you're playing with people who aren't very good it becomes a sloppy mess and typically you'll have a player or two just trailing along in a bubble. Not fun at all.

I prefer playing single player, or 2 player granted the other player is actually good. Anything more tends get out of hand.

I think they did a good job with it though. It manages to be a great SP game while still offering up something new. Cant say I know of any other local multi 2d platformers.

ummm, the first Rayman was good and all, but you're giving it way too much credit. You could tell that it was a first project for many of the developers involved because of some poor design choices throughout.

Rayman Origins is one of the strongest games when it comes to level design and the control is superb, speedy, and responsive.

also this game gives you more powers than the original did... don't know why you put that up there. Also Mr Dark and Batilla make appearances...

I'd say it and DKC Returns battle for best 2D platformer. Rayman is certainly the prettiest. Galaxy 1/2 are the best overall platformers IMO of this generation.

I find it odd that the sequel is a Wii U exclusive and no one gives a **** after all the whining and complaining that went on when Origins wasn't selling well.

I'm getting Legends day one. Origins is such a great game.

You don't "wave your arms around" when playing games on the wii. The only games I actually stand for are wii fit and wii sports and I barely play those.

One of the best certainly. It also has one of the best swimming controls in that you don't feel like a tank underwater.

14 people prefer inferior platforming games... that's just sad. oh, and lol at the guy who said Rayman doesn't have good music. It may not be the typical crappy Hans Zimmer-like soundtrack that makes all the stupid people go "HUURRR SO EPIC!!!", but it has some amazing melodies.

Not at all? Um... you have to shake the controller to do the spin attack, and you have to point the cursor all over the screen to collect those stupid rainbow colored stars that scatter all over the place. I'd rather those stars just not even be in the game.

You could literally keep the remote in one spot and comfortably shake it to spin and collect star bits. The motion controls were not intrusive and done well IMO.

Not sure if serious... but if so then you obviously havent played the game. There is no arm waving to be had... AT ALL. lol.

well then we must have played different games or something. If im not mistaken I used a wiimote and the numchuck to play SMG? Its been probably 2 years but I think im right..

Wow, what the hell are you talking about? The times you use motion controls for SMG2 are for an alternate way to defeat enemies, rolling ball levels, flying levels, collecting star bits, swimming faster, and others I'm probably forgetting about, all of which require no "arm waving" at all and work very well...
