60GB 360 with Backwards Compatibility is $299.

80GB PS3 without Backwards Compatibility is $399. So add $130 for a PS2 and you have $529

With that sort of difference I could afford a stand-alone BD player and 2yrs of Live which has been substantially better than PSN up til right now. Live has been smashing anything PSN has had to offer since 2002 because you get what you pay for. Sony or the game devs eat the cost which is bad. Although Live should now be halved in price.

You see even the PS3 has extra expensive things you don't need and you don't see lemmings using the PS2.

Heres something about Jasper http://gamer.blorge.com/2008/11/29/xbox-360-jasper-arrives-the-end-of-the-red-ring-of-death/ TR800

Actually, I had read somewhere that while microsoft may have made the processor run cooler by introducing jasper they also downgraded the fan cooling systems within the unit. The system still runs hot as you can overheat a jasper unit within 10-12 minutes if the fans are shut off. Jaspers still do overheat and cause RROD just not at the rate that the Falcon, etc did before.

Also installing games to my HDD have made a big improvement less noise less heat etc.TR800

So, you accept the practice that installing games to a HDD improves functionality? Are you sure you're a lemming?

Yes it does help i wish i could buy a 300GB HDD but i can't so it's a flaw that you don't get with a PS3.

Microsoft should have fixed it completely by now but at least the risk is far less than 2 years ago.

While you're at it, include th cost of a 7.1 speaker system for the PS3 over the 5.1 for 360, include the price of HDMI cables, include the price of an expensive HDTV, how about the price of a large HDD for the PS3? 1TB should do it... ok maybe just 500 GBs and 120 for the 360 is as high as it goes, then if you want include the price of buying an ISP for accessing the internet right now, then how about the price of a PC so you can stream your multimedia files to your system, don't forget about including the cost of four controllers, headsets, mics for music games, GH/RB controllers you'll buy, etc. Sounds crazy, right?

I'm not sure, but my PS3 has run great so far. I've had to get my X360 repaired a couple times, but it was free & very fast. My bro had to pay $100+ to get his out-of-warranty PS3 fixed. My co-worker/friend's PS3 hasn't had one problem yet.

The point is, new X360s and PS3s probably fail at the same rate.

Its not about self owning or having a go at who ever owns what system.
I was just trying to show that for the majority ofgamers that requires the most fetures out of their console the price is pretty close.
And theres no doubt with the price of XBL Gold your costs goes up higher that the store price of a PS3.

And at the end of the day it boils down to what system offers the end user the best for their needs.

Majority of console gamers need the added fetures i posted in the 1st post.

XboX prides itself in FPS and online play/community. You cant turn around and say a avid gamer wont need a headset and wireless adapter for their room.
I'm happy they finaly included HDMI in their new models... Remember when people had to buy HDMI addons to play HD...
I think you will find years down the road Wi-Fi will be built in aswell for little added cost.

If they were compared on equal levels in terms of specs the PS3 would be cheaper, but since most of the things are unnecessary or not needed by the average joe.. you can't do that.

Some, but not most. All gamers should avoid wifi for gaming. I certainly don't use it for either console. And I own the20GB HDD and it's been fine.

The only extra costs I'd agree with you on are the XBL and HDD costs....and maybe the play-n-charge kit.

Again, even after adding in the $30/yr I pay for XBL, I've still paid more for my PS3 I bought in Feb07.

This redundent argument.

If the Xbox is indeed more expensive. Why does it sell better?

It has poor exclusives, crap hardware, and you have to pay for online (wtf!!!)

Yet ... the PS3 still fails.

Heck, you can get a 360 (up to a Pro) and a PS2 for less than the cost of a PS3 (including the cheapest).

Bottom line.

The Xbox is cheaper then the PS3.

Period. End of story.

You don't factor in the cost of petrol for your car do you? Or insurance, or Tax.

Link? Any sort of proof to back it up?

See what your doing is trying to make the 360 look more expensive than it is. You can't factor in add ons because not everyone is going to buy them. Last i heard there was about 20million conected to Live. That's 10million+ that aren't even online, add in millions more that don't have gold, add in millions more that dont need your add on.

Are you starting to see where im coming from? It's also stupid to think someones paying for Live non-stop for 10 years. I've had months out from my sub because there was no games online i wanted to play.

The entire first post is just..wrong.

Sounds crazy, right? yoshi_64

This is a ridiculous argument. The cost of each system is completely individual, so when people post the cost of a system, they are most likely posting their personal costs.

Hey, you're right, let's post all that information and see where we get...just for me and my entertainment needs.

PS3 80 Gb new with taxes direct from Sony- $270

Dual Shock 3 wireless controller Newegg - $42.99

Western Digital Scorpio 320 Gb hard drive - 64.99

HDMI cable Amazon.com - .23 cents without shipping

Optical Cable for audio - .01 cents without shipping

Harmon Kardon HKTS-14 surround sound speaker system - purchased brand new off ebay direct from Harmon Kardon - $149

Onkyo 7.1 HDMI, digital audio, optical, you name capable - purchased from Circuit City $129

Sony Aquos 32 inch 1080P LCD display - Purchased for $700 brand new from Sears when it was retailing for $1200

Free Online Gaming for atleast the new 5-10 years- $0

Free Built in Wireless and Bluetooth - $0

Bluetooth headset Motorola H700 or 710 - Personally purchased brand new from Amazon for aroudn $30

Now, lets equal my needs on the 360

TV, Stereo, Receiver as above with HDMI and digital optical price negligible

Xbox 360 Elite console as I need the hard drive space- $299.99 from Toys 'R' Us

Wireless 360 controller - Black - $34.96 Walmart

Wireless adapter - $76.96 Walmart

Xbox live 12 month subscription of Newegg.com - $39.99

Now, these are my personal needs as an online gamer with TV, stereo and receiver not included.

Total PS3 - 407.98

Total Xbox 360 - 451.90

So, the purchase of my PS3 was an obvious choice. Especially, with the better functionality, True Surround, lack of renewing online subscription fee and the like.

Buy what you want, but this was the best purchase for me.

[QUOTE="JohnM1983"]

CreepyBacon

I'm not trying to do anything, I'm comparing the 2 systems as equally as i can for my gaming experience and that's the outcome.
If i get that outcome I can guarantee you others will as well.

My points are very valid and as ive said from the start it depends on what your needs are.

I don't have any problems with either console I was just trying to show how the PS3 really isn't that expensive compared to a 360 with some of the samefeatures... I've been very respectable with my posts in the thread so far.

And if you look properly on the end of the 1st post i did also include costs without the XBL fees and it still only came to aroundthe price of a game.
Even adding 2 years of XBL Gold to the costs of my list add up and is perfectly valid for the experience I want.

You don't need an elite to play games.

You don't need a wireless adapter unless you're too lazy to use wires.

You definitely don't need a 500GB harddrive why the hell is that on there...

ColdfireTrilogy

Wrong, my PS3 is sitting a whole floor above my router and modem and its not in my best interest to tunnel through the celling, through installation, through insulation and then through the bottom of my floor just to have my PS3 wired to my router. Also given that at almost 30+ ft. of wiring the chances for signal disruption grow tremendously ....

Yeah, My router and PS3 are in different floors as well. I'm surprised how many people think wireless is some niche market. Hell, before me and my wife bought our house, we lived in a teeny 2 bedroom, 700 sq ft apartment. And it took hours and over 100 feet of ethernet to go from the router by the pc in the den, around the walls to the PS2 in the living room and tuck it all in nicely under the carpet. What a monster pain. Once they started coming out with those wireless gaming adaptors towards the end of the last gen I was all over tham and would never try all that again.

Exactly. Its all based on the individuals desires and needs. Its not an either or thing.

For most of the people I know, based on how they play (online, wifi, etc.) the PS3 would be cheaper for them and when I explain it to them they are like "yeah true, but all of my friends are on the 360".

This redundent argument.

If the Xbox is indeed more expensive. Why does it sell better?

It has poor exclusives, crap hardware, and you have to pay for online (wtf!!!)

Yet ... the PS3 still fails.-Snooze-

Yup.

It's like I said earlier: If you think about it, the cows are actually self-owning when they do it. They are basically proving that gamers would rather pay more for the X360 than the PS3.

So you're not worried about wardriving, radio sniffing, and flaky connections? Those are keeping me off WiFi. And no, I can't use WPA--every router I've tried buckles under the strain.

Actually, I think if people were truly informed about the long term costs associated with the 360, they would change their minds. Most people (especially uninformed parents of gamers) walk into a retail store, see the 360 or Wii, look at the price, and automatically purchase that for their child. Young adults do the same thing. If you walked up to someone like myself with my current gaming and audio/visual needs and explained that by purchasing a PS3 online I'd be saving two to three hundred dollars within the next 5 years as an online gamer, then I'd probably change my mind.

There are much easier & cheaper ways to get around that problem.

SW users should be banned from making price comparisons under pain of death, they all end the same exact way.

I have a Level One WBR-6001 wireless N router and I'm constantly connected at between 270 Mbps and 300 Mbps and I use WPA2 without a problem. Check into it. It's a fine router with a plethora of options.

That's assuming you couldn't find deals for the X360 too.

In the end, I see both consoles costing the same......even though my PS3 will still have cost me more than my X360 even after adding 3 more years of XBL.

Costing the same for you perhaps. The PS3 has been the far cheaper console for me.

Plus, the Xbox being better is your opinion. I've owned a 360, and in my opinion, it doesn't even come close in quality to my PS3.

I hope that they permaban the next person that makes one of these "xbox + wireless + live + car tires + sandwich cost more than my ps3 threads."

We get it, you're insecure in your choice of consoles. Youdon't have to constantly spout off about it. You could do a quick search and find a lot of threads like this. We didn't need another one.

Almost every person on thisboardknowshow much the systems cost and what accessories you have to buy with them. Thanks for telling everyone again, but we didn't need it.
