Most people dont care about graphics now, which is why the Wii is outselling the PS3/360, just like most people wont care about graphics in 5 years, which is why the Wii will still be selling better then.

Products that last are ones that are successful, and the Wii is more successful than 360 and PS3 and then some.

This is reality. Take your graphic whore fanboy goggles off and acknowledge it.

LEGEND_C4A

while its true alot of people own wiis and PS2s with the bad graphics, its ignorant to say no ones cares, thats not true at all. No one looks at a wii and 360 and goes, "hm, i dont care about graphics, im gonna get the wii!" talk about a fanboy statement. The wii is considerably cheaper and appeals to a different, larger group (grandparents, adults, young children; as apposed to the teen/young adult group that most console appeal to).

All it proves is that gameplay and graphics are of equal value, and people want a good looking game to compliment the exciting game play, they want the visual satisfaction when they do that move or w/e.

And yes, the wii is more successful in sales, as everyone has said since like, the first month the wii came out. But it doesnt mean it is the more succesful console overall.

Most people dont care enough about graphics to warrant purchasing a 360/PS3 rather than a Wii, as sales clearly indicate.

Happy now?

Can't agree with that dude, if you count the sales of 360's, PS3's and PC's, then you will notice that millions of people do care about graphics, the sales prove that.

all 3 systems really have the same audience, maybe PC owners will disagree, but are all the same. imagine if the 360 didn't exist, that system wouldn't cut into the PS3's sales, just imagine how many PS3's or 360's would sell if it didn't have another system competing for the same audience.

nintendo is in a world by itself, completely different audience. I would never buy my child a 360, not good enough for children, I wouldn't buy a PS3 either for a child, but I would consider it more over a 360. but a Wii would be a definate purchase.

price also means a lot, I've had many parents here at work ask me about systems, and they always decide Wii cause its so much cheaper.

of course you will disagree, of course you will scream nintendo has better games, but in the end the Wii is the cheap alternative to play games. buy the system and it comes with a game, you don't need an HDTV etc.

don't get me wrong dude, the Wii is a great system, but there are many reasons why the system is doing so well and its not just about people not caring about graphics.

very good argument.

There is no Wii bubble, that's just something you tell yourself to cope with the fact that it's selling more.

and you probaly tell youself that to cope with the fact that you cant find a Gamecube that has a Waggle taped to it (AKA a Wii.)

yup. he said it correctly. the reason why the wii is selling is cause its for everyone. ps3/360 are for hardcore.

but EVERYONE includes hardcore players, thats what ps3/360 fanboys cant get their head around

they called the wii a gimmick and fad before it came out, yet here we are 1 1/2 years later and its still sold out at most places.

this "fad" is trouncing the ps3 and 360 in sales. fanboys always seem to be in denial about something

The ps3 and 360 have sold almost 30 millon to gamers. The Wii has sold 20+ million to the general public. Look at it's sales. Mario and Sonic Olympics 5 million+ already  These games will keep the public happy for a couple years before they move on. Of course the Wii has it's hardcore gamers but they don't stack up to the 360 and Ps3s

The way I see it, the Wii isn't a gaming system, it's a toy, a toy that appeals to ALL ages so of course it sells.

If you really cared about "hardcore" gaming, you should've got a PC which has the most unique genres and longest lasting games. Wii is a TRUE console and I think it has more right to be called such than the 360 or PS3.

what makes a true console?

The ability to play games is a good start. The reason I said that was because Wii was designed primarily for playing games. The 360 and PS3, in my opinion, seem to put as much or the same focus on media functionality as well gaming. However, that doesn't stop them being consoles, either. I do find it hard to believe people can not consider a Wii a console, when it was designed to play games.

[QUOTE="ogvampire"]really? are you sure that EVERYBODY that bought a ps3 was a gamer? NOBODY that bought a ps3 didnt get it just for blu-ray?

but anyway, no matter how much you hate it and scream into the night that its a fad, it will still sell and keep outselling your "hardcore" 360/ps3 systems

f50p90

Sure. I bet 90% of Wii owners, children, parents, and grandparents don't even know what Blu Ray is.. Oh and you forgot the 360 in your argument, how do you explain that.

Wii will sell like hotcakes, thats great, great for nintendo. I still stand behind my belief that its a toy for EVERYONE, not a gaming system

QFT, that's the best thing to call a video game system with only a handfull of actual games and everything else is just random. Really, like it's been said, the Wii is the current craze. I'm not going to be one of those people who try to predict when the wii will fail, because I doubt it will. The Wii appeals mostly to the casual gamer, and really, I no longer consider it in the same category as the 360 and Ps3 because it doesn't appear to cater to the serious gamer like the Gamecube did. Now I'm not saying there aren't any games that gamers like on the wii, I'm saying there are more gimic titles than actual games.

[QUOTE="ogvampire"][QUOTE="f50p90"][QUOTE="ogvampire"]in your case. i think the issue here is that you speak of things as fact when in reality youre just speaking from your own personal experience. personal experience does not equal fact

you say that the playstation lasted since 95, well i stopped playing mine in 99. so using your logic i would say that the playstation was crap cause it only lasted until 99.

f50p90

Well obviously no one on this site knows how long things will last, and this is my opinion. Fact is the playstation franchise has been going since 95. Nintendo has been going even longer. But the Wii hasn't. And I highly doubt Nintendo would take the Wii into their next generation. They might keep it around, but theres only so much you can do with what it is. And they will probably introduce something NEW

i have no idea what youre talking about.

the playstation franchise has been around since 95, nintendo has been around since 85, but the wii doesnt count as a nintendo product?

this is how it is: the sony gaming franchise has been around since 95, the nintendo gaming franchise has been around since 85. the nintendo gaming franchise includes every single system that they have ever released. now why is the wii excluded again?

i think i know what youre trying to say, but the logic that you have just astounds me.

Ps1 -> Ps2 -> Ps3

Nintendo -> SNES -> N64 -> GC -> Wii

Obviously the Wii is a nintendo system. But what seperates all the playstations? Nothing except they are upgraded. What seperates the Nintendo systems prior to Wii? nothing but they are upgraded. The Wii is completely different not like anything ever before.

the wii is an upgrade from previous generation. it has 2x-3x the power of the GC, plus a flash drive, wifi, motion-sensing, a speaker on the remote (which i actually like, unlike some people)

how is that not an upgrade?

like I said, wii isnt really in the same market as the other two. Wii is a console you usually buy SECOND, not for your main console. 360 and PS3 are in their own little HD War, while wii is on the sidelines in its own 1 man war.

PS2 graphics were not so bad for its time although it was weaker than the GC and Xbox it was not by the same amount that the Wii is from the PS3/360. The fact that Wii is getting PS2 ports pretty much proves it since they don't really need to pimp up the graphics for it to look like "Wii" graphics. PS2 had better games than it's competition however the Wii is not in the same position in my opinion.

Will the Wii sell well? Yes

Will it sell the most? Probably

The Wii is a good system and it has a game or two that I like, I simply like another system over it. That doesn't mean Wii owners can't enjoy their console.

The same applies to the PS3 and the 360, no? When all the hardcore gamers get tired of it in a couple of years, there's no way it will last. The PS3 is the most obvious fad of this generation.

Not exactly, the ps3 is an upgraded ps2, which is an upgraded Ps1, the 360 is an upgraded xbox. The wii is an upgraded Gc

I see how a good number of people constantly say PS2 and Wii has bad graphics. This is jsut not true. Now, if you say NES and Sega had bad graphics, FOR NOW, that would make sense. But the Wii is a little more powerful than the Gamecube, which had some great graphics for certain games. All the games don't have bad graphics, you might think they do because you are a PC gamer, or a 360 graphics **re. But time to wake up, Wii/GC/and PS2 graphics are still very enjoyable, and might I add relevant, to casual (obviously) and some hardcores alike.

Mario and sonic olympics sold 5 million in two weeks.

I have noticed this as well. It's hilarious but saddening at the same time for two reasons. They probably don't realise how stupid they sound and nobody seems to call them out on it to make them realise. The schadenfreude here is immense. If people tell others when they have smeared food on their faces, shouldn't people also tell fanboys when they are making absolute idiots of themselves?

You probably don't realise how stupid you look playing the Wii. But i don't care, ill just play my games and go about my business, while you try to get your bowling score up.

It's hilarious but saddening at the same time for two reasons. They probably don't realise how stupid they sound and nobody seems to call them out on it to make them realise.

You probably don't realise how stupid you look playing the Wii. But i don't care, ill just play my games and go about my business, while you try to get your bowling score up.

DISCLAIMER: I know that's not you, but it's the majority of Wii owners

You just made it fairly obvious that you haven't really played a Wii to any extent. Secondly, that's the difference. Even if Wii owners looked stupid, they wouldn't care - because we don't play games to impress our friends. ;) I don't know about bowling, but I'll definitely be trying to finally get the 120th star in the 2007 GotY. Oh, and in 4 days, I'll be playing the Wii's second exclusive AAA of 2008, SSBB online.

Your right I havnt played it to an extent. I have played wii sports, wii play, and sonic olympics. That's about it for me and about 80% of wii owners. The software sales support this fact.

That is entirely incorrect. The Wii has 20 million-selling titles, four of which have outsold Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. Secondly, stop using that as an example. Does it really surprise you that a game with two of the most recognizable gaming mascots has sold so well? Wise up.

Mario and Sonic has sold over 5 million in two weeks. It will pass mario easy. two others that outsold mario and sonic are wii play and wii sports. And yes, given the content in @Olympics the sales WOULD surprise me, but they don't because it's the Wii, and that's what people bought it for

they called the wii a gimmick and fad before it came out, yet here we are 1 1/2 years later and its still sold out at most places.

this "fad" is trouncing the ps3 and 360 in sales. fanboys always seem to be in denial about something

All gaming systems are toys. Wii is a gaming system because it's a system you play video games on. Obviously you are a hater and I don't need to spend any more time owning you.

*sigh* That figure of "5 million sold" includes both the Wii version and DS version. Would you please educate yourself? WiiPlay, Super Mario Galaxy, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Mario Party 8 all outsold this game on the Wii. On another note, Shadow the Hedgehog was a million-seller on both the XBox and PS2. Thus, it should come as no surprise that this game sold so well, based on name alone. Stop failing.

[QUOTE="ogvampire"]the wii is an upgrade from previous generation. it has 2x-3x the power of the GC, plus a flash drive, wifi, motion-sensing, a speaker on the remote (which i actually like, unlike some people)

how is that not an upgrade?

f50p90

 your avoiding the truth that most people see it as an interactive, tv toy. The software sales of wii sports, wii play, and sonic olympics support this, versus the sales of an actual game like No More Heroes (which hasnt even cracked 500k)

isnt that what consoles are?

the wii is meant to be played with friends, NMH is only a 1 player game. the wii is advertised and used primarily for playing games that involve more than 1 person, unlike NMH

The Wii is winning on price alone. I know at least a dozen people who decided between PS3 and 360, and then picked up a Wii in addition to it, based on the fact that they could afford to. Meanwhile, all those people play Wii casually, while they're more hardcore about their online gaming and graphics from the other console. I own each console, so here's my take on it.

You're argument that people don't care about graphics is flawed, because the people who have been gamers for years and years DO in fact care about something that graphics are encompassed in...the progression of what gaming is as a whole. A lot of Wii fans cite the controller as progression, but the only really keen examples of the controller used in a situation it was made for is the shovelware games. My favorite Wii games Zelda, and Mario Galaxy, felt that control-wise, were tighter experiences the last time around. Wind Waker's combat, and time-response blocking features felt better by each degree, and as other reviewers have noted, Galaxy was more about the game being good, while many controller uses felt a little off. Meanwhile, when I see a game pushing new boundaries on other said consoles, I feel like I have been rewarded in my investment. For instance, Halo 3's online gameplay, and online cooperative gamplay and really something that have taken the tech to new levels. Uncharted on the other hand, is a game that isn't only fun to play, but is an enjoyment to emerse yourself in simply because it looks great.

I think where the Wii is a success is that is isn't making gamers say we no longer care about the next innovations in console, it's simply making people who didn't care about consoles period take a second look at gaming, and by second look, I mean a Wii purchase. I have 2 Wiis sitting in my church's youth room simply because they were not only cheap, but would be something that all the kids could get into, not just gamer kids. I couldn't imagine my church buying PS2s even, because PS2 still had the identity of being a console for gamers.

I think in regard's to Wii's longevity though, it really needs to keep thinking about where it is going, and what it's going to do next. Nintendo is running out of their staple ports pretty early in the game here by my count. And with games like GTA4 on the horizon, a long time gamer like myself would cringe at the thought of 2 things..1-not having the console I needed to play such a game, or 2-the thought of playing such a grand scale game with its knees chopped out from under it by playing a Wii prepared version. The simple fact is, Wii has to find a way to keep themselves on top of these true next gen experiences that're hitting in coming years, GTA4, MGS4, LittleBigPlanet, Halo Wars...all games that're going to evolve what we expect from games, and all games I could never imagine the Wii capable of handling.

1.the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, "How nice!" when I said I had to work all weekend.

2.Literature. a.a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated. b.(esp. in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., esp. as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion.

The reason i posted the defintion of the word irony is for simple fact that all the dúmb people who make up excuses saying "The Wii is for kids" "The Wii isnt a console" are acting like kids by contradicting on what the Nintendo Wii Console is, A CONSOLE, Simple as. Now the PS3 and Xbox360 have become MultiMedia Centres / Consoles.

I brought a Nintendo Wii for the sheer fact that i wanted a Console which i would enjoy playing and not some multimedia centre with modcons that i would only use on the odd occasion! Blu ray / HD-dvd players will get cheaper in several years so untill that day comes i will stick with normal DVD's!

Oh and everyone keeps on saying "The Wii will be forgotten in several years" but sadly enough so will the PS3 and Xbox360 as Sony and Microsoft will force onto us the next console. 5 years is a generation in the console market as simple as that so people stop chatting bubbles with this comment as its quite false.

Oh and finally, If it was all about technical ability then why has Sony consoles sold so well in previous generations as it was always the weakest out of the several consoles? Because it was offering something new and unique like Free CD player on PS1 and Free DVD player on the PS2 but they misjudged on forcing a market which no one is really ready for which is HD! You can argue all you like about quality, sound and so forth but the pricing in comparison towards normal DVD's is terrible so will make people say "screw it".

I like both PS3 and Xbox 360 but theres nothing actually new about them from previous consoles which is why Nintendo's innovation paid off.

how soon people forget. hindsight is 20/20 now, isnt it?

before the wii came out, most people were claiming that it would barely sell and that you could walk into a store and buy it a month after it launched because it would get gobbled up by the 360 and ps3.

please show me a post you made regarding this "no-brainer" idea of yours BEFORE the wii came out

HD TVs have been selling like crazy, so to say people aren't interested in HD seems a little off. I think people were reluctant to invest in a split HD market in which they weren't going to be able to be sure if their favorite content was going to pick their side. This is changed now, all films are eventually going to 1 format HD-wise, and the consumer can place more faith in their products. Sales have gone up substantially since HD-DVDs withdrawl, and it only makes sense that you'll start to see the adoption of HD players reflect the number of HD TVs bought.

Yeah...most people aren't ready for high tech systems. Most people still plays PS2 and Wii, but the Wii is a litle stupid considering that they could have released the controls on the Gamecube instead, it's not that less powerfull. When Sony made the PS2 they said that more power isn't really needed when running in Standard Definition, I guess they were right. The Wii is more powerfull, but even the PSP looks better on a TV.

But don't tell me the Wii will outlast the other consoles, specially when no one wants to make games for it. Sony has a rep for keeping they're consoles alive for a very long time, even if a new one is released. MS on the other hand, kills the old one right away.

The Wii isn't even this gen. Its lasts.

This gen is systems with prices over 300 dollars. That wasn't last gen so it must be this one. :)

..Oh yeah and what is the next wii system going to be called? Excatly! no one knows because its so weird. Thats a reason why it will last longer.

Yea, dude, I remember! The GameCube totally trashed the PS2! The Xbox didn't even register!

Agreed. The "price" argument is so ridiculous.

Great openning post and nicely put, you can see it on the PC market in which games actually sell and you can see it on the console market in which console is winning, from the casual to even many hardcore players graphics are not that important, which is why turnbased wargames are 10X more hardcore than Call of Duty but yet are still in 2d. The sheep have got it right.

yes sales matter. They can put shovelware on it and it sells 200000 and make a proft. They put a AAA game on it and sells 1000000 they will make profit.

It's hilarious but saddening at the same time for two reasons. They probably don't realise how stupid they sound and nobody seems to call them out on it to make them realise.

ogvampire

You probably don't realise how stupid you look playing the Wii. But i don't care, ill just play my games and go about my business, while you try to get your bowling score up.

DISCLAIMER: I know that's not you, but it's the majority of Wii owners

have you seen how stupid people playing guitar hero/rock band look?

so whats your point?

Sir, I disagree with you, I actually look pretty cool playing Rockband, thank you very much! 8)
