1. It's too soon. People just bought hdtv's
2. It's not necessary
3. The economy sucks. Why would anyone in their right mind buy a 3d tv?
4. It's an add on and another lame attempt at one which is really expensive.
5. There is no support at launch
What are these companies thinking? Another huge loss.

None of that is particularly relevant.
The premium paid to add 3D to an HDTV is significantly LESS than the premium paid by early adopters of HDTVs. What this means is that a relatively small amount of manufacturing/sales will quickly drive down the cost curve for 3D TV...much faster than when HDTV first came out.
Because of this, the 3D portion will quickly become a modest premium over the cost of a similar regular HDTV. Once that happens, if you are in the market for an HDTV then many will pay a smallish premium for a 3D version. It is not like you are giving anything up, you are just gaining a feature.
There will be more than enough adopters. Many of those are going to be people who haven't bought any HDTV yet and will buy a 3D version with better overall tech for half the price of what I bought my last couple of HDTVs for a few years ago. Bank on it.
