Regardless of one's ability to enjoy the game I find it difficult to understand what's average about it.

@hardwenzen:
I agree but the story to me does drops down to average for me. The beginning was great and felt really good but it gets toned down, they should of made the story a outlaw gang thing instead of a group of people in a camp.
I would've preferred that, sure. But wouldn't go as to say that it was average.
No, it just sucks, lamprey. I do like some newer games. Think "average" might even be too generous for it, because for all the problems I brought up I don't think whatever positives there are (like attention to detail, music) make up for them. The game has deep problems.
I thought the story was wonderful. Gripping at times. Im not saying it was To Kill A Mockingbird or anything, but for a video game story it didn't take advantage of my time.
What deters ke form jumping back in is how slow moving the game is. The animations and detail are lovely but they don't make for a pick up and play kind of game.... Felt like a game stuck in slow motion to me. I still played it through and had some great moments with it.
Actually, it is the best open world game to date. I don't like westerns, i don't like GTA and RDR1, i also don't like card games. Still, playing poker in RDR2 kept me entertained for quite a while. One thing that impressed me, in comparison to other open world, it didn't have the theme park trope. Like for example Elden Disney, where you open the door feeling you're about to enter a park (Hello there Mr Receptionist bla bla bla... O look over there, it's dragon mountain! Ooo, scawy dungeon, scawy gargoyle staring right at me will come to life, and since it's dead center i bet something around the corner will pop out and try to scare me... aso). When i rode through a wooded area, the horse suddenly bucking, and a cougar appeared seemingly out of nowhere, getting me of my horse killing me, that was memorable enemy encounter.
It is such a pain in the ass. Everything is so meticulous.
But it is also something unlike anything else. When you lose yourself in this world, you do so completely. It is exceptional in the world it creates, and how it throws you into it.
Seems like some you guys don't like games with big storylines. You want games where pretty much as soon as you start you're under constant attack, running and gunning pure action. Anything that deviates from this isn't worth playing?
As for the input lag, that's because you're playing on console. Not a problem on a suitably equipped PC. 4K, DLSS, 60fps+ beautiful.
