Just beat the game. What a disappointment. Only good thing about it is the canyon scenery, but that got old pretty fast. This is on par with Assassin's Creed 1 at best. Also surprisingly short, beat it within 12 hours, but I guess that's a good thing considering the gameplay got boring way early on. The extra hour of end game is so shamelessly cheap since it is a rehash of the initial tutorial. It would be a travesty if this game wins GOTY. Far better open world games have already been made. This game is no where near the usual Rockstar quality.

..and here comes the RDR hate. Sad. I don't understand why people feel it's necessary to hate on games that great critical reception. If this game got no GOTY nominations everyone would be praising how good it was and how biased the media is for only hyping up mainstream games like Halo and CoD.

I agree, but pretty much anything Rockstar puts out gets licked up by the critics. GTAIV and RDR are both wildly over-rated.

I'm not a massive fan of it, but I did get it day 1 and then recently got it again to try and get into it. I know how it ends, but the game feels so polished - it's definitely worthy of the praise it's getting.

Is this Because Mass Effect 2 now has little to no chance of Getting Game of The Year on Gamespot?

Traveling was a chore sometimes if you didn't have a campsite, and some "find and fetch me" missions left me irritated.

But, given these minor set backs, the game is a gorgeous world that makes the wild west fictional world very believable. I mean, the voice acting and face animations were better than some human actors, haha.

If RDR is overrated, then i don't know what ME2 is... Mediocre shooter game-play, no effort in graphics.... Levels are ten minutes corridor shootouts where all you do is kill everything in your way in an extremely repetitive manner. The planet scanning is boring. Only thing it has for it is "cinematic talking" which i wasn't impresed with.

replace planet scanning and the cinematic talk with piss poor writing, basic sandbox mission designs and you pretty much have similar flaws between the two of em. Both try to be tight action games, but both suffer from what is basic design issues. Though I don't understand why ME2 is being brought into this.

Red Dead Redemption is brilliant. Extremely rare for a game to to so accurately nail its own setting. The gunplay is great. The physics are superb. The writing and voice acting are a few levels above almost anything else that has come out this generation. For an open-world, sandbox game, the graphics are stellar. John Marston is a likable, sympathetic and flawed (that's a good thing) character. Was it perfect? No. But it was the most fun I've had in a long time. I didn't want it to end. Incredible game.

It has problems certainly, but its still an awesome game. My biggest issue is the repetition, as with all the rockstar games :P.

This thread has nothing to do with console wars. I would suggest writing a review for the game rather than making a thread.

I'm finally starting on my back log and am playing through game and its ****ing amazing. Get a better taste in games and try to more stuff. Yes open world games can get repetitive, but I often find that its me that's making it repetitive. I love the shoot outs so far, the story, collecting stuff, helping people, the voice acting, the visuals are stunning, the way the music picks up during fights in Mexico. This is a great game and probably will end up being the the best open world game I've played. Enjoying it a lot more than GTA IV. Also, screw Five Finger Roulette, I hate that game.

For those saying it's boring, this isn't a game that you play for an hour and then stop and ignore for a long time. You need to keep playing through it. Also turn off normal aiming mode, put it on expert aiming, and use good headphones or get a good set of speakers, thanks.

Played it over a few days then went play multiplayer for a few hours. I still didnt like it.

Deal with the fact that not everyone will like the game. Just because someone doesnt like it does not mean they didnt play it right.

The only good thing was the canyon scenery? Someone obviously didn't play the entire game. Just my opinion, but RDR greatly outclasses any of the Assassin's Creed games. At least the plot was comprehensible, Assassin's Creed games are just like "WTF?!?!?!?"

RDR Story was awesome. It coulda used a little tweaks though. But the Gameplay and Story were better than most games. This may seem morbid lol, but the holes from shooting people made this game for me lol, it just added a lil more realistic quality. Also Tieing people up and stuff. Sorry if that seems evil haha, but the gameplay was just awesome. Also the voice acting was tops, ALOT better than MOST games. Rockstar knows what they're doing.

There's a lot more that this game allows you to do compared to other open world third person shooters. Story is gripping on me now and I'm ready to find out what happens next! I know I mentioned this already, but this game is so beautiful and just feels alive at all times. The animations are great especially when Marston slides into cover and the kill animations are some of the best ever. I love the sound effects. I love the challenge of riding on a horse back and pulling off a headshot in expert aiming mode without using dead eye. I love the semi-automatic pistol (I know there are other weapons to get later, but I'm not that far). I shouldn't have played this game first in my backlog. At least I don't have any other open world shooters to beat. Also, I'm so glad I didn't play GTA IV before this, lol.

i didnt even finish the game it was soooo boring... i stopped when i crossed the border (did like 1-2 missions over there) i reckon the only reason it gets praised is cause its a rockstar open world game thats not linear and there are a tonne of things to do... to bad its not as fun as people claim (poker is good though) the setting just makes it worse with boring bland landscapes and no lively hood to them (or very VERY little) reminds me of the fallout 3 landscape...at least that had more variety (subways/tunnels/fortresses etc..)

Just beat the game. What a disappointment. Only good thing about it is the canyon scenery, but that got old pretty fast. Primary missions basically consist of the same lame shootouts over and over again. Side missions aren't even worth to be bothered with. Assassin's Creed 2 and GTA games are much better. This game is no where near the usual Rockstar quality.

yeah, talk about a speed run. the single player story took me around 20 hours to complete. then throw in another 5 hours for all the bountys, hideouts and stranger/side missions.

I agree and disagree. Im sure its an amazing game, but to me it just seemed exactly like GTA4 in the wild west. I loved GTA4 but I played it once. I didnt want to play it again so I bought Alan Wake instead. The Undead Nightmare pack looked awesome but other than that, its nothing too terribly exciting to me.

actually, i LOVED GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas. GTA4 was boring, boring meh as well.

and yes, inFamous got boring in most parts for me, because navigating the city was freaking tedious, especially backtracking to past islands. the only thing that kept me going was the story and better powers. the side missions were boooooring, meh, and a pain.

Read Dead was just a borefest. what's the point of hunting anyways? 1/4 of the game you already have enough money for the rest of the game. whats the point of trying to hunt for a cougar claw or whatever when you're just gonna sell it anyways? wouldve been better if they made unlockables by trading in a number of different animals skins or whatnot. you're better off killing dozens of wolves instead of waiting for a cougar that only appears once in a while. bleh.

also, the controls are clunky. so many different surface collision issues. most of the times i wanna do something but i end up doing another. what's the point of wearing a Walton's Gang Outfit? to sneak in? you can't even do sneak attacks. once you attack someone they all start to attack you. go all the bother of unlocking an outfit, sneaking in just to get one kill easily?

I personally just cant get into Rockstar games. i dont think ive ever enjoyed anything theyve done for more than like a day. For about a day though I think they are like the best games ever but then I get instantly bored after that.
