What about Red Dead Revolver? Was that licked up?I agree, but pretty much anything Rockstar puts out gets licked up by the critics. GTAIV and RDR are both wildly over-rated.

Meh, even though i was dissapointed with RDR (got boring around the time you got to mexico) i still want it to win over ME2.
Overrated by whom? Damn, wen will people learn that the term "overrated" is never going to be objective, and hence irrelevant, that terms should be cut out from the dictionary. The only thing that's fact is success & sales, which is also never going to be completely relevant to your taste, since GOATS(Greatest X/Y of all times) is personal to you, and subjective, but that's offtopic.. Moving on..
Preferance is another thing, and let me add this. Your favorite game is going to be, no doubt, someone's most hated game. That is human diversity, human nature, and fundamentaly fact. You can *** around all you want, i don't see how it could annoy you, since your entertainment is not affected by someone's rant.
Ontopic: RDR, though boring and repetative at some parts, had a wonderful story, and i consider it a more unique game this generation. Besides Starcraft 2, i'm hoping RDR will win GOTY. If SC2 falls, then i'm with RDR all the way.
So you dont like it. If it is well accepted that doesnt mean everyone will like it. There is not a single game that is loved by everyone you know.Just beat the game. What a disappointment. Only good thing about it is the canyon scenery, but that got old pretty fast. Primary missions basically consist of the same lame shootouts over and over again. Side missions aren't even worth to be bothered with. Assassin's Creed 2 and GTA games are much better. This is on par with Assassin's Creed 1 at best. Also surprisingly short, beat it within 12 hours, but I guess that's a good thing considering the gameplay got boring way early on. The extra hour of end game is so shamelessly cheap since it is a rehash of the initial tutorial. It would be a travesty if this game wins GOTY. Far better open world games have already been made. This game is no where near the usual Rockstar quality.

Yeah I know & it shows how many immature people are in these forums. Your favorite game isnt winning the award you want so you pick out the one that did & start trashing it, lol what a joke.shawn7324
Yet these "immature" people are often quite right to question gamespots award system:
Amnesia wasn't even nonimated...
and what the hell?
Spiritual successor = sequel now.
I think it's a good call by GS. Now, if only there's a PC port. It's one of a handful of console games I'd like to see ported over.
Not agreed to and in fact it will likely be considered as one of the all time greats this gen... seriously, a phenom game especially considering it has arguably the best piece of DLC offered for any game this gen. :o Though like any game, it still has it's flaws and could have been even better - I can't hardly wait for a Next Gen RDR. ZOMG... :D
This is my feeling towards it as well. I keep hearing people saying they hated riding the horse. I rode my horse almost EVERYWHERE. I enjoyed the conversations they would have on the horse rides. I enjoyed everything about the game. Including the glitches :PI think most of the people that think it's boring just don't like the cowboy and western theme. Personally I'm tired of the gangsta and ghetto drug dealer scenarios over and over again.

The fact that you didn't have to micro-manage the rides were a big plus. He woud just stay in sync with whoever he was riding with, and could then break away if he wanted.
This really was a great game that actually exceeded my expectations for it. It's also the first Rockstar game I've taken to 100% completion.
And TC, I've played this game over 100 hours, most of which was on single player. If you finished the game in 12 hours (if you even finished it at all), then you were doing one hell of a speed run and didn't bother looking around much at all.
I'm debating whether I should play it or not. I didn't like GTA IV's sloppy shooting controls or main missions and if this follows that formula in a different setting , then it's not for me. Anyone help me out here? What's it like to actually play the game?

It's exactly like GTA:IV in terms of controls. Personally, I thought the missions were boring as ****, although it is pretty.
Shooting is a lot better in my opinion, and feels less clunky. I've never played with lock-on aiming either, expert all the way :D Missions are fairly standard open world ones, but there are some good instances of variety. The overall atmosphere and scale of the world helps with that. Definitely give it a go :)I'm debating whether I should play it or not. Me too. It still sucks. :P Mouse/keyboard would help a bit, as it did with GTA:IV, but the gunplay in Rockstar's games is clunky/lame. A proper crosshair would help a lot. They're lucky their ragdoll is god damned fantastic - that's what makes gunning down people so much fun in GTA:IV/RD:R.
Red Dead Redemption is brilliant. Extremely rare for a game to to so accurately nail its own setting. The gunplay is great. The physics are superb. The writing and voice acting are a few levels above almost anything else that has come out this generation. For an open-world, sandbox game, the graphics are stellar. John Marston is a likable, sympathetic and flawed (that's a good thing) character. Was it perfect? No. But it was the most fun I've had in a long time. I didn't want it to end. Incredible game.Jared2720
Exactly this. Tc mad cause ME2 isn't getting GOTY here. Cry moar
[QUOTE="lazerface216"][QUOTE="_Cadbury_"]I like how it's suddenly cool to hate on RDR now that it's sweeping up all the GOTY awards.shawn7324
nothing new in system wars. every popular console game gets this treatment.
Yeah I know & it shows how many immature people are in these forums. Your favorite game isnt winning the award you want so you pick out the one that did & start trashing it, lol what a joke. What's even more immature is that you completely push aside opinions that deface your precious RDR. Seriously, people are allowed to have their opinions. Just because it goes against what reviewers and fans say doesn't mean that he's trying to rebel or something.i loved rdr but can totally see if someone would not get into it.
people loved assassins creed 1 and it got action goty and i thought that game was terrible(not counting the platforming).
it just depends on what you are into.
I was thinking about creating a topic about how much Fallout 3 sucked, but then I made an amazing discovery! I HAVE A BLOG!
[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"]If RDR is overrated, then i don't know what ME2 is... Mediocre shooter game-play, no effort in graphics.... Levels are ten minutes corridor shootouts where all you do is kill everything in your way in an extremely repetitive manner. The planet scanning is boring. Only thing it has for it is "cinematic talking" which i wasn't impresed with.jg4xchampreplace planet scanning and the cinematic talk with piss poor writing, basic sandbox mission designs and you pretty much have similar flaws between the two of em. Both try to be tight action games, but both suffer from what is basic design issues. Though I don't understand why ME2 is being brought into this.
I think people are still upset that RDR is "stealing" ME2's awards. :P
I loved every minute of RDR.. by far my favorite console game this gen..it belongs on my top ten list 8)
Actually give you a damn good reason to make you want to do the other stuff? yeah but I liked the cubed game in GTA 4.[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"][QUOTE="psn8214"]
... sort of like GTA:IV. I see a trend they need to work on.
psn8214
Yeah. Admittedly I found the extras in GTA:IV a bit better, but neither had much redeeming value. It seems like wasted effort on their part.
Well it is hard to compete with a lapdance mini-game. :D

RDRs controls are the same but all the movements are MUCH tighter and not as sloppy as when Niko runs around. The animations are definitely better too. But it's not even close to being tight enough yet. Yes it's better than GTA 4 but Marstons movement is still far too stiff. Going from cover to cover isn't anywhere near as fluid as actual good cover shooters, and the gunplays entire saving grace is the feedback/death animations. Outside of that the movement and core mechanics are still clunky during the more intense firefights. It's the biggest reason why the multiplayer is complete garbage. But it's not even close to being tight enough yet. Yes it's better than GTA 4 but Marstons movement is still far too stiff. You sum up my feelings on the game in an excellent manner. I personally hope for the next GTA they ditch the whole auto aim thing altogether. It takes a lot of the satisfaction out of killing dudes, although the death animations are pretty **** fantastic.

I enjoyed Mafia II, but it had major issues. I think the setting, graphics and PhysX won that game over for me. I liked it, but I would never hold it up as a shining example of the genre and I daresay RD:R is better in a number of important aspects.
TL:DR, they both suck, but I happened to like Mafia II for whatever reason.
..and here comes the RDR hate. Sad. I don't understand why people feel it's necessary to hate on games that great critical reception. If this game got no GOTY nominations everyone would be praising how good it was and how biased the media is for only hyping up mainstream games like Halo and CoD.N7EspiBecause people are entitled to opinions.

Bad Taste, low standards, total forgiveness for all things awful like Mass Effect 2 and Avatar?
There is just a whole bunch of reasons one can come up with :]psn8214
