I freaking love the game & just started Undead Nightmare which so far is interesting & fun. I've gotten over 50 hours out of the game easy with 1 play through, don't understand why people want to hate a game just because it wins awards.

Red Dead Redemption wasn't a terrible game. It was okay but it becomes repetitive and boring - especially online.
ME2? How the hell can anyone even say GOTY for that? That game sucked. I just played the demo for the PS3, I didn't even finish it.
So repetitive. Duck-Shoot-Duck-Cover-Shoot, CINEMATIC with an RPG element....repeat cycle.
one of the best games ever. i never used the campsite, unless i needed to save my game to be safe. i loved just riding around and lookin at stuff and seeing this beautiful world rockstar created. i was never in a rush to finish the game. i think that was the point of the game as well. to take it slow and enjoy the adventure.

You sure do love to bash ME2.[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"]If RDR is overrated, then i don't know what ME2 is... Mediocre shooter game-play, no effort in graphics.... Levels are ten minutes corridor shootouts where all you do is kill everything in your way in an extremely repetitive manner. The planet scanning is boring. Only thing it has for it is "cinematic talking" which i wasn't impresed with.Doolz2024
I'm with him, ME2 was the suckiest failure of a game that critics/sheeple loved. It inspired me to thrash it anytime I can.
Dumbed down tripe for the TPS wall cover moronic masses, admit you like it to me and you are insta-/ignored

 Yep Im sure you got the whole feeling of the game from not even finishing the demo:roll:. Try being a vanguard and actually playing the full game.

Vanguard was fun for the first 5 encounters, until you realize that every level is a segmented hallway with half walls to indicate a "flashpoint".
Nothing can save ME2 from being pedestrian mainstream tripe. The entire design philosophy was "dumb it down so the gears of war crowd will buy it"
If Bioware had combined the cinematics of ME2 with the game philosophy of ME1 it would be the greatest game ever, instead of the new Oblivion.
edit: sorry, I can't respond anymore, you admitted to liking it and your opinion is now worthless :)

Just beat the game. What a disappointment. Only good thing about it is the canyon scenery, but that got old pretty fast. Primary missions basically consist of the same lame shootouts over and over again. Side missions aren't even worth to be bothered with. Assassin's Creed 2 and GTA games are much better. This is on par with Assassin's Creed 1 at best. Also surprisingly short, beat it within 12 hours, but I guess that's a good thing considering the gameplay got boring way early on. The extra hour of end game is so shamelessly cheap since it is a rehash of the initial tutorial. It would be a travesty if this game wins GOTY. Far better open world games have already been made. This game is no where near the usual Rockstar quality.

12 hours? Boy your horse must be exhausted....
yeah, talk about a speed run. the single player story took me around 20 hours to complete. then throw in another 5 hours for all the bountys, hideouts and stranger/side missions.
The main missions are already boring and the side missions are even worse. I'm not going to waste more time on the lousy side missions when I already had to force myself through all the the main missions in the first place. In hindsight I should have quit playing when I was 3 hours in. Thought it would get better but it never did. Same thing over and over again...and here comes the RDR hate. Sad. I don't understand why people feel it's necessary to hate on games that great critical reception. If this game got no GOTY nominations everyone would be praising how good it was and how biased the media is for only hyping up mainstream games like Halo and CoD.N7Espiwell said

most of the games winning awards are highly overrated imo. starcraft 2, red dead, ME2, halo reach were all not that good. I played them all. I don't think it has anything to do with getting critical acclaim. IF they weren't I still wouldn't think they were that good. My opinion has nothing to do with how critical acclaim a game gets. GTAIV was also realy bad. The graphics in that game make it almost unplayable with the blur they use.
Are said games great technical achievements? Sure but this isn't a car show. It's about gaming and fun. I just didn't think they were that fun. IT's just the state of gaming and touting what is really expensive and touted. I more just say what i think is good and fun as far as games go.
The best games i played this year were Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, Fallout New VEgas. And even they weren't without their flaws. I didn't think they were that great. But the most enjoyable games and best games i played this year. More isn't always better. Dumbing games down for the mainstream idiots doesn't make it better either. These games had a set purpose and focused on story and gaming and fun though and what they were trying to do.
None of these games got any mention by gamespot. Which is funny. Does it bother me? NOt really. I just don't really read what they think anymore.
Does the state of gaming bother me? Yes.
He could have rushed, i finished ME1 in around that time before ME2 came out so i could import another character into ME2 You would literally have to skip all the cutscenes are only do story missions, completing many on the first try. You'd only play a story heavy game like that if you trying to do a speed run, lol. At that point it would be silly to criticize a game that you thoroughly didn't play. In the end though, he just didn't it because he felt it was boring.[QUOTE="mD-"]

I'mconfused i'm just going to stop talking. It was really easy for me to be immersed in it. There was so much to do; I thought the Legend of the West challenges were nice, the bounties were not that bad, the scenery was magnificent to look at...
But also the story is what takes it away. Too little people appreciate it and it's too bad. It's really good, but so many look at it at face value.
Shooting people dead and then spawn raping them was the best part of the online, but it got taken off. So many people talked so much crap, and spawn raping was the best way to shut them up. :lol:Red Dead Redemption wasn't a terrible game. I personally just cant get into Rockstar games. i dont think ive ever enjoyed anything theyve done for more than like a day. For about a day though I think they are like the best games ever but then I get instantly bored after that.
VendettaRed07
Same for me. For the first 2 hours I feel the game might be something special, but after that I realize it's the same old, plain, and dry Rockstar formula: boring missions and awful gameplay. They rehash the same thing every year, but the masses continue to eat 'em up.

The main story mission is doable in 12 hours. Admittedly it would be close, but it wouldn't be all that difficult assuming you stayed focused and did the story missions all day. Which honestly isn't hard to see. Since all the side stuff in the game falls under the "you can do it, but why the hell would you want to?".The main story mission is doable in 12 hours. ... sort of like GTA:IV. I see a trend they need to work on.
While I don't know if it's overrated, I didn't like it as much as most people did. The ending was stupid imo. Just because it's different doesn't make it good. Not to mention the annoying stationary weapon sequences and the small reticle in SP. I also would have liked to see more options for the amount of aim assist used, and I can't forget about the boring horse rides (yeah, I know about fast travel and used it a lot because of those boring rides) and Mexico sequence. Again, those are just the problems I had with the game. If you didn't feel like those were problems, I'm glad you enjoyed it, but it doesn't change how I feel.
For the record, I enjoyed GTA IV and it's episodes a lot more than RDR. In fact it and it's episodes are a few of my favorite games from the past few years.

Yeah. Admittedly I found the extras in GTA:IV a bit better, but neither had much redeeming value. It seems like wasted effort on their part.
I loved RDR. It isn't quite GOTY worthy, but it is still great. I had a lot of fun with it.
The ending sucked though.

the trend's working just fine for them as far as i can tell, critical and financial success and all. of course, i can understand how hard it must be for them to resist making a game solely catered to your personal preferences...:P

I know it is, and while I thought RD:R was a boring, albeit beautiful game, I actually really really liked GTA:IV and its DLCs. Doesn't mean the little minigames don't suck though. :P

and jgx mentioned "side stuff", not just the minigames.
I like how it's suddenly cool to hate on RDR now that it's sweeping up all the GOTY awards._Cadbury_
nothing new in system wars. every popular console game gets this treatment.
I hated GTA IV, it was very overrated and an 8.5 if I ever saw one. That being said, I love RDR and think its def. my GOTYI agree, but pretty much anything Rockstar puts out gets licked up by the critics. GTAIV and RDR are both wildly over-rated.

Yeah I know & it shows how many immature people are in these forums. Your favorite game isnt winning the award you want so you pick out the one that did & start trashing it, lol what a joke.Red Dead Redemption deserves every bit of praise it has recieved. It's a brilliant game and easily one of the best games not only of the year, but of the genre. Out of Gamespots nominees, it deserves GOTY without a doubt. GTA IV, now that was overrated. That was a massive step backwards for the series. RDR on the other hand is a brilliant game worthy of all the praise it has recieved and takes the open world game to a whole new level.
