Interesting article on Nintendo's E3: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/06/25/what-on-earth-is-nintendo-up-to It basically says Nintendo's E3 was not aimed toward the gamer; the real audience they catered to was the shareholders.bbkkristian
Iwata:
"First, what we've shown at the E3 show are both the launch titles that will be released with Wii U hardware this holiday season and the launch window titles that will be released early next year or not long after the hardware launch.
We do have ideas of what kind of software we will be releasing after those two periods, and Mr. Miyamoto as well as I are both directly involved in the development process. Those include both our traditional franchises and of course new propositions as well.
However, because we are now in the era when similar proposals can be made by the others just one year after we introduced a brand-new hardware system proposal, please understand that we really can't say much about what else we are planning."

I don't think they care about that, just they want to show off their games when they are ready so it will blow the socks off. Every company copies from each other, INLCUDING Nintendo. It's called competition, and it's a good thing.

They do because this time PS4 and Xbox 3 will have their own tablet controllers day 1. The competition is tight.
I was more replying to those who thought Nintendo's E3 was a bust. Read it, its actually a pretty good article :) In fact, all the conferences are directed at shareholders; asides from Ubisoft and EA. It also talked about how Nintendo will communicate with the fans. It used to be E3, but lately its been from Nintendo Direct; at least all the big news has been, like the Nintendo 3DS XL, Super Smash Bros info, and other games we would be interested in. The article predicted that all the big news and how Nintendo will communicate with its fans in the future are through the Nintendo Direct. :)Iwata:

I think that's not entirely true, the notion that they will treat E3 differently from ND. It's just a coincidence. Wii U's launch lineup is heavy on expanded audience games and their 2012 3DS lineup is core oriented.E3 was about Wii U and ND was about 3DS, go figure. I mean you saw the ND right, it had that 3DS singing game with Mii's too.
With that said it's not entirely wrong. E3 for Nintendo is about focusing on a couple of key titles they want maximum mainstream coverage, while ND focuses on giving tidbits of info, but for several games. When the E3 for Smash Bros. 4, Retro Studios game and Mario U comes up, people will change their minds again thinking now it's suddenly about the core!!
You know, if everyone is so dissapointed with E3 this year (and the last few), maybe its time to stop and reflect on whether these companies are really missing the mark time and time again, or maybe we've just all set these silly arbitrary standards that no company has really any interest in meeting. It's a one hour conference that we've all chosen to make out to be so important for us personally.
I suppose everyone's supposed to be impressed with Nintendoland, Sing, very little news, and 2 New Super Mario Brothers games in one E3...
Well on one hand, most people here probably did hype it too much. but they didn't really have a strong showing either imo. Still wasn't bad though.
So yeah I say he's pretty right.
Why would you do that though? The tablet controller is suppose to be the biggest thing about the Wii-u. :lIf you strip away the tablet controller
Wasdie
The Wii-U isn't impressive Reggie. That tablet controller would be way more impressive if I haven't been using my iPod touch since 2008 and my smartphone since 2010.
If you strip away the tablet controller and look at the WiiU as a gameing machine there isn't much to get excited about. The visuals of the few games we seen are nothing to brag about and the games we've seen have been a bit lackluster (especially for a console coming out in 6 months). The tablet is nothing more than a different way to control a game but it's not a big game changer like full motion controls.
The Vita has a touchscreen with full controls and none of the games I own have mixed them well. It's to cumbersome going from holding the device with two hands to playing with one. The best use is a few new thumb-accessible buttons on the screen itself. That's about it.
Wasdie
That's flawed logic, "using iphone/vita/touch." The WiiU gamepad does a lot of different things that are game-related that those other devices don't do. I will agree, it's not a big game changer. However, no other console (except handhelds) use touchpad controls. The WiiU console and gamepad also do things with the Wiimote. There's a lot going on with the WiiU in that respect.
I will agree though that WiiU left alot to the imagination. I wanted to see a Metroid, Mario, Zelda, etc., and see how those games looked on the WiiU to really show how powerful the console is. I would have also liked to have seen the online infrastructure, not just the miiverse.

So maybe you're expecting too much out of E3, considering every conference was lacking in content and surprises.
This is the guy who thinks 3 nintendo shovelware releases for the entire of 2012 is more than enough. Reggie is getting desperate because he, like everyone else, knows the WiiU will be a disaster on the level of the virtual boy, and he will soon be fired from his job along with Iwata. runbleduckWhat are those games? And don't use "shovelware" when you don't know the meaning of it

Yeah, mainly because we had lots of surprisesfrom Nintendo the last 2 years and our "surprises" we got this year were Nintendoland and ZombiU, which both look mediocre at best at the moment. I could be wrong about ZombiU though, I'm just expecting another Red Steel lol.
I really wasn't expecting much out of Sony and Microsoft's conferences though...
He's right. They showed off a New System to launch us into the Next Generation of Gaming and Hey it can even play some pretty good games on it, but Gamers these days were wanting Graphics that can see the Back Hairs of some dude's Rear End and some were expecting Smash Bros. 4 despite it not even starting Development.
Gamers saw a New Device and they went "We Want MORE!"
He's trying to pass the blame. It's Nintendo's fault. End of Story.Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has made a rare and unexpected critical analysis of Nintendo's consumer base, following widespread complaints about the company's E3 press conference. he said "One of the things that, on one hand, I love and, on the other hand, that troubles tremendously about not only our fanbase but the gaming community at large is that, whenever you show information, the perspective is: Thank you, but I want more. Thank you, but give me more."
So what do you think? Is it really our own fault or is he trying to pass blame?

Fvck him. They are trying to sell us expensive goods. It's their job to impress us. We don't owe them anything.locopathoAnd they dont owe you anything either. consumers like to think its a one way system... its not.

But if they want my money, they have to impress me :)
all I know is that nintendo fans will come here, pull their pants down and their underwear, and start shouting "YES ITS TRUE NINTI ITS ALL OUR FAULT WE ARE SORRY KEEP HITITNG US!"lightleggythis will be the case. the conference was sh!t...even worse than microsofts and thats saying something. i dont think anyone asked for 1. Wii pikmin for wii u or 2. Nintendoland
Hes just another reason that i now hate Nintendo. Its not like releasing the Wii and selling core gamers down the river for the past 6 years wasnt a hard enough slap in the face but now you are saying its out fault we are not impressed? Gamers were never impressed with the Wii either because it was garbage that relied on a gimmick but luckly for Nintendo non gamers were stupid enough to buy in the gimmick. The problem is that is highly unlikely to happen this gen as most those very casual to non gamers are content with playing crappy games on there I-pad. You want to go after that crowd yet again? So be it but you will get what you deserve.

Thats a sad indictment on Wasdie.
After actually reading the article myself (which I must question if others in tgis thread have done the same), the title IS misleading.
Reggie wasn't really attempting to blame people, but moreso describe the challenges of appealing to the gamer demographic, and he's not very far off. Gamers (or people in general) do typically hype stuff to absurd levels long before something is due to be released, which will inevitably lead to some degree of disappointment. I certainly remember reading threads/posts about how the Wii-U will be substancially more powerful graphically than the PS3 and 360 before E3, and all the predictions of games that would show up at Nintendo's conference. Hype is a dangerous thing and can be a large factor in why something ends up feeling "dosappointing."

It is a one way system.
The consumer are always the side with power, it's the sellers responsibility not only for his company but also for the shareholders to drop his pants and bend over for the consumer. Sadly some fanboys think it's the opposite but that's not how the real world works.

Sorry, I only listen to the superior Iwata in Europe who actually gives us games unlike Reggie who is all talk.

We still have the superior European Iwata. He has a ficus.
Where is your proof for those slanders?Very Sony of Nintendo to tell the fans what they should think or do. Reggie just continues to show his true colors. First he insults people at Nintendo by calling them puppets and now insults the fanbase. Sorry to tell people this but most high powered executives think of their fanbases as monkeys.

Oh it is very much a two way system. Said company wows me with products and customer service and I wow them with money to pay for said products and services. Nintendo does not wow me in any way so they are not getting my money. Many people must agree with me because Nintendo is currently losing billions of dollars. Maybe the great Reggie is one of these executives that thinks he can throw the fanbase anything and they will lap it up? Reggie should ask Ken Kutaragi how well that worked out for him.
"Many people must agree with me" Uhm, no. I'm getting the WiiU very close to its release datedat damage controlAfter actually reading the article myself (which I must question if others in tgis thread have done the same), the title IS misleading.
