[QUOTE="BeardMaster"]

it would cost at least $2000 to even come close to matching the 360/ps3 graphically, and the 360 would still be a quantum leap ahead.

BeardMaster

Nope

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/toshiba-toshiba-qosmio-17-3-intel-core-i7-3610qm-gaming-laptop-psplxc-02700f-psplxc-02700f/10215710.aspx?path=48ea2e10b2137ec3daea7537084666a8en02

I found a laptop that is significantly more powerful then the 360 or PS3 for $1999

i know i just wanted to feel like a hermit for a moment, and just completely make something up.

I fell for it anyway.

So they are saying it's not going to a big leap?

HaloPimp978

That's in physics....

"a large quantity; bulk" is clearly their usage.

Great news, it'll be at least 8 years before next Xbox/PS so I hope it's a big damn leap.

lol @ 700 dollar-1000 dollar consoles!

i for one am not buying them , if they are that much greater cause we all know sony,

theyll charge 1000 and microsoft will only charge 700 ,

and games would cost 70-80 bucks a pop on 720 ps4 vs 50-60 on the wii u , have fun going bankrupt with your checks !

cause if this is true there is no way sony is going cheap on this stuff everyone better have their check books in check lol cause if they don't theyll bounce !

As a PC gamer, I'm looking forward to the next gen of consoles, if only out of the hope that console hardware will finally stop degrading the quality and scale of multiplats.

Expensive hardware is not a good idea for consoles next generation. I don't believe it for a second.

04dcarraher
It's the ONLY idea. What else is going to be offered. Next gen will be built Upon the assumption that the generation will be long. Power is the key selling point next gen, for ms and Sony. Also, pc games are not leaps and bounds better. They run in higher resolutions and whatnot, but the art assets are still generally universal.

No the main limitation in this generation is lack of memory not hardware per say. Also Yes Pc gaming is too leaps and bounds over console abilities when the games are designed around Pc's not console ie TW2, BF3 MP, Total War etc. However thats not the case since alot of games are multiplatform based, being required to designed around the lowest common denominator

Yeah, that's the point.

I'm thinking $499, with Sony/Ms taking a loss.

It was, but it was not better than what was possible with PC (X1800 in Crossfire or GTX 7800 in SLI).

Altho it's true that on the 360 all games run and on decet quality while on a X1800 barely any games run anymore (or if they do they don't look or run particularly well).

04dcarraher

PS4/720 won't need a GTX 690/680 to be significantly more powerful than current gen. The PS4 will most likely have a GPU as good as a 7870 which would be a pretty big leap over current gen. I also expect no less than 4GB of total ram.

People overlook the power and cooling requirements that influence the prices of these consoles. A normal 7870 has a TDP of 175w at 28nm, while the 360's Xenos gpu had a TDP of around 90w. then the RSX had about 85w TDP both at 90nm. Your looking at a gpu that needs 2x the cooling and power. And then that is not including what the CPU's will need and will produce heat wise. I think that with the next xbox will only see a gpu at or under AMD 7770 performance only using 80w or less. Now Sony could play the waiting game to see what MS does and throw in a gpu like a 6850 performance wise and totally own MS without sacrificing too much. Note that even a measly AMD 6670 using only 63w is at least 4x faster then whats in current consoles not including all other advancements.

Or maybe something about as powerful as the 7850 could be a possibility? Looking at the specs, it would be much closer to being as good as the 7870, but has a TDP of 130W instead of 175W. On top of that, it's significantly cheaper. With improvements in technology and parts getting cheaper, by the end of next year, who knows? It will be interesting to see. Maybe you're right though.

Honestly I can't wait, this could mean great things for next gen multiplatform titles and as someone who enjoyed games like Infamous 2 and God of War 3 very much(and knowing those types of games cannot sell on PC since the PC audience has little interest in them) I'd love to see a next gen Infamous and God of War game and perhaps next gen consoles will even feature mouse+kb support like the Dreamcast did which would be great for PS4/X720 in particular which are most likely going to have a big bulk of their sales on multiplatform FPS titles which is worrisome if the games are designed completely around controllers, but I digress. I'll be getting a Wii U on launch and probably the X720/PS4 as well since I did the same for the last generation counterparts and I imagine they'll be even cheaper now although the games will still be expensive especially since I never buy games used :(

Sounds good and it's expected that the next-gen consoles will be a big step up from the current ones.

Well, except the Wii U which seems to be taking a Wii approach.

Neither console will have such a weak GPU. I can't believe you guys actually think Sony/Microsoft are going the Nintendo route next-gen. If the PS4/720 aren't a significant leap over current gen, then I fail to see what the point of upgrading would be. Most people would just stick to their current consoles if Next-Gen is going to be nothing more than an incremental upgrade.

But, you would have to then... play games on a PC. No consolite would stoop to such a rediculous thing.

We must leap from game to game, striving to put right what once went wrong, and each time hoping that each game would be the game home.

PC gamers exaggerate the visual improvements in their games over consoles. They make it seem that their PC's are running Avatar level graphics compared to what is possible on current gen. Sorry, but the difference in visual fidelity between PC games and the PS3 are not the same as PS2/PS3. You actually need a side by side comparison to actually appreciate the differences.

Owned by what? A figure Ubisoft pulled out of their ass to make Piracy look bad and force their DRM more because it failed? They haven't provided a shred of evidence to support those figures at all

Why don't you tell us what the true figure and also provide the evidence for that? Companies like Ubisoft follows the market as closely as they can, using the best analysis tools/data available. I'll take their estimate before what hermits think they know any day in the week.

I don't know how to put this any other way. If you actually believe Ubisoft's numbers, then you are a complete moron.

I didn't say there wasn't a difference, I said that the difference in visuals have been exaggerated. Crysis 2, or BF3 on the PC doesn't look like a game from a totally different gen than the 360 version.

Crysis 2 was a game designed around consoles and their limits and only had some touch ups done to the PC version. However BF3 is a totally different ballgame even though its multiplatform. A good developer will try to make everyone happy on every platform which is why in a game like BF3 the essence and core of the game is the same. However that where its ends though if you have seen and or play BF3 on Pc it feels and plays differently then from the console version let alone the visual and MP differences. Multiplatform games tend to be designed around console abilities then get straight up ported to pc, or upscaled and some work done to make it stand out on Pc, or they actually created a separate version actually taking use of Pc's correctly. Now you say that some exaggerate the visuals , that it totally dependent on the game however in many cases the difference are large enough to say their are massive improvements.

Pointless comparison , because of that fact that your comparing artistic changes and specific upgrades done on a sequel using same engine on the same system vs platform vs platform in graphical capabilities.

Lol, that was MP beta but still, there are massive differences between Pc vs PS3. The PS3 used massive amount of bloom vs the 360 also which is way in that scene its so bright.
