I don't get it. How does it have an identity crisis?

It's really neither here nor there. It is a survival horror or a shooter? The first half the game it's not sure. By the second half, and for five, it was a shooter. Too bad, so much more can be done with online co-op especially. Just another game with players in different skins. No character.
Does it matter in the end? It doesn't stop 4 from being a great game. One of my favourite series this generation has an "identity crisis" you could say, that being Mass Effect, and it doesn't stop that series from being loved my millions. Is that a shooter, an RPG, dating sim? Who cares, Mass Effect 1, especially 2 are considered masterpieces.
It matters to me. I love shooters, I truly do, but having so many games just become another shooter makes me sad. I loved the old school adventure game-play and the RE Outbreak games had so much potential. Sadly, people want to exploit games more then play them.
Even Silent Hill added a gun merchant this generation. I really like Dead Space for what it is but I miss survival horror. RE had a good run but I've played so many shooters; and online co-op loses game-play and character in favor ofdead give aways.
Take cover and go for the headshot has gotten really boring.
