I don't know a single person in real life who has had a PS2 break, yet two of my friends have had a 360 break. 

Most people aren't sad enough that they need more than a picture. It really is quite sad that you think that I went and borrowed a friends 360, wrote my name on a piece of paper and took a picture just to show people on a message board that I own a 360. At least u'll get a new Lite-On DVD Drive (Hopefully) which is better and makes less noise :)

My PC's Sony DVD-Rom died after 2 years of service and I didn't use it that much at all :(

No red lights of death, but more like Faulty DVD drive of doom. Cant even read a brand new game, gotta send it to MS for repairs, but at least they pay for everything, even shipping. Yeah this sucks, Xbox 360 hardware is crappy but what choice do I really have when it's the only console with good online service and gets good games every month.Kayrod29

I don't know if you realize it, but your credibility on bashing the 360 has gone down further. Without saying your gamertag, I'll say this, you have a SILVER account. That means you can't even experience any online play for any 360's great games. Plus, I'll be waiting for a message back from you.

If you want a taste of reality, the failure rate of xbox360 is 6%. The average failure rate of any console is 3%. So, yes, it's unfortunately high, but it's not the insane problematic hardware that people on this forum would lead you to believe.

So, for everyone out there who has had TWO faulty 360's, (let alone MORE) that means you are not only one of the most unlucky people on the planet, but you're also letting a company take advantage of you, as they'd clearly owe you something pretty nice(really nice) for your inconveniences.

First it was 3%, now its 6%, next month 9?. You guys believe everything MS tells you.

In the Netherlands MS finnally admited last saturday that the 360 can scratch your discs. Took 2 episodes on a very popular consumers show. They were denying it up to that point but testing proved it and they couldn't deny it anymore. Now they're probably doing everything they can to keep the news going international. Now that would be a publicity agents hell.

My 360 just locks up and freezes alot but so far no red lights. Although I'm wondering how long it will take with all the people on my friends list and here talking about it breaking down.

For you fanboys, the shoddy hardware is real. Stop denying it and hold them responsibe. Ps2 fans sued sony for its dre's and now look what they have done. Created the most stable system with an optical drive yet. Its not bad to be critical and its not meant for you. MS can learn from it.

I never had one. Whenever I think about it, I consider myself very lucky. My friend's broke a long time ago, my girlfriend's won't read DMC3, and I think another friend of mine's brother had to tweak his because it didn't. I consider myself lucky.

DVD drive gave up the ghost?  yea, it happens.  my laptop DVD drive died recently.  such is life with optical drives. 

Depends on the laptop drive brand, my last laptop had some cheap one that cost me 300 dollars to replace, which was a complete joke since the warranty was only 90 days in store and 1 year for the manufacturer's. Just after it expired, my computer died, CD/DVD drive died and then my HDD died a month later. Toshiba laptops suck, my Acer works great, although the DVD drive needs to be balanced since its rubbing against the top of the case.

Thats right, people shouldnt be ignoring and trying to cover up hardware problems. If the PS3 had the same hardware issues as the PS2 did, fans would be pissed royally cause we are talking about a 600 dollar console, same thing goes for the 360, a 400 dollar machine should be able to work flawlessly considering the hardware less complex and its easier to build a 360 whereas its very difficult to make a PS3. I have had two PS2's in my life, both still work, one original and a slim one, not once have I had problems reading PS2 games, although the slim ones dont play many PS1 games to some extent.

I have a 360 and im pretty sure it is gonna break really soon. My 360 is very loud and once in a while I get disc reading errors. Heck, when I first got gears of war i got a disc reading error, even the usb in the back doesnt work anymore. I was wondering what are the warning signs before your 360 breaks. I got my 360 Jan. 05 and got a 1 year waranty from best buy and was wondering would i still be covered by MS if it breaks? I was thinking of trading it in to Gamestop and getting the elite when it come out if I  am no longer covered.
