I hear launch 360s have a 33% failure rate and new ones have a 16% failure rate is this accually true? has anyone here got RRod? how many times? I want to know to see if it is just people bashing the console or if it is a serious problem
its a serious problem i havent gotten myself but i know a couple ppl who have gotten it but its not really a factor to me at least when you can just send it in and get it repaired for free(then again take what i say with a grain of salt since i havent experienced it)
imo its overblown though while a big problem, 85% of people 360s are just fine and thats the majority but still the defection rate is too high but hopefully it will be fixed in the near future
I got it and it does suck but there is a three year warranty so that makes it somewhat better. If you have one that is less then a year old the chance its going to get the RROD is much less then if you had one from two years or more like mines.
I'm on my second and I don't want a third. I've set up a whole cooling system to make sure it doesn't. If it does and my warranty expires I'm just going PC for the rest of the gen.

no one denies that it happens... The only legit numbers I've read was 16%. I believe PS2 was 15%. But are you really going to miss out on Mass Effect, Bioshock, Halo 3, Gears of War and many others because of it? especially with an unprecidented warranty? c'mon, I don't even feel its an even fight this gen so far with the 360 line-up dominating the other consoles...
Well I used to think that it wasn't that serious and it was just way over-exhagerated...until it happened to me. I thought it couldn't happen to me, but guess what, it did. I treated my console perfectly well: left it in a nice open space, perfectly ventilated, never dropped it, never moved it with discs inside, etc. and this is how it repays me. It was even nicer how it happened to me after I had a pretty terrible day. What's better than having a bad day and coming home to a broken 360? Nothing I tell you, nothing!
I think it is not as bad a problem from personal experience. My 360 stopped reading games it would play everything else but 360 games. I called MS they told me to send it in and pay $100 to get it fixed. I thought screw that, I called MS the next day and told them my 360 got the RROD they shipped me the coffin I sent it in expecting them to call me and tell me it would cost $100 to repair or send it back unrepaired but no I got a new one. Granted there was a problem with my 360 not the RROD but a problem. Oh and yes I had my 360 for 2 years before any problems.
I think it really overrated, I have only had one rrod but it happened right after I downloaded a update. The machine was not even on long enough to get hot, it had been working perfectly, I turned it on to play gears and had a mandatory update. I down loaded it, it restarted and froze WTF turn off then on it played for 2 min then froze. This happened a few times then it rrod. If its caused by bad sodder my machine was not on long enough to get hot. Anyway after that my 360 has been going 1 1/2 years no problems.

PS2 15%? More like 3-5%
Yeah, I have two PS2's that still work perfectly for games, dvd's don't play worth crap though, but who buys game systems to watch movies?
i talked to this guy from Games of Sony (my local store) and he said yeah, its about 40 percent he said, he also said thats why the 360 appears to have lots of sales, its because ppl rebuy 360's.
Yes it is a big issue. You're basically rolling the dice. Sure there are folks that don't have to deal with it, but then there are a lot of others that do...waaay too many for a console to be worth it. A friend of mine is on PS3 because he got RROD, sent it back, then the second one started acting funny, so he got rid of it. That makes the second friend of mine who has had to deal with RROD. Just about everyone either knows someone who has had RROD, or someone who has a friend that has had RROD. Why else would Microsoft step up with such a huge warranty deal. So go spend your $400, roll the dice, for what? Unless your a fan of scifi shooters like Halo, Gears, etc., then a PS3 will cover you just fine with a failure rate as close to nil as possible.
I just love the RROD i think is part of the 360 and is ok.. i mean it feels special to have a 360 and then get rrod if that happens no problem because of the warranty. is not really a problem (no joke)
1. RROD after 4 months or some such. 2. Started acting up with frequent freezes and such. Pre-RROD you could say. 3. Ate my Saints Row Disc. And Viva Pinata I found out recently... RROD isn't the 360's only problem... 4. Has been fine for about 10 months. I'm hoping it'll break down before the warranty expires in March though.
i laugh at how many ppl say its a big deal...and then when u look at those ppls forums history they have posts that completly bash the 360! lolLibertySaint
This thread alone is proof it's quite an issue. If it weren't, you wouldn't be asking now, would you? ;)
Failure rates have been put at as low as %16 but as high as 33%. Going through this thread, and looking at the majority of posters claiming at -least- 1 failed XBox should show you how bad it is... However, there's a 3 year warranty, so even if an Xbox does crap out on you, you can always get a replacement.
Guess it's really up to you, and whether you think it'd be worth the hassle if one did fail.
You have a pretty good chance of getting a red ring, sure. I'm on my 3rd console now, 2 red rings total. It's not too horrible however, you send it in and get it back a few days later.
