One thing that seems to contradict it though is, I don't think that America had ANY big buildings at the time, and the French Revolution seems like it would be better suited for AC.

AmayaPapaya

Even if they did...they certainly wouldn't have had much that would be recognisable to most international players, nor would the buildings have been as historically significant as the ones featured in previous AC games. The French Revolution simply fits better, for both the historical interest and the gameplay options.

Google Images tells me these are late 18th century buildings in Boston. You can't tell me this doesn't look AC worthy.

Yeah.. well it does look worthy. However, Boston is a unique city. Seems like it's the only city that looks European in the U.S. I been there and been to L.A., Orlando, Cleveland, Detroit, and Chicago. None of those cities look like Boston.

I still think WW1 would be a great idea, the game could start with you failing to kill the man who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Sadly I know it won't that............:(

If true the game is going to be very different than the first 3.

No more leap of faith. :?

Is it really coming out this year? I really do think I'm done with the series right about now. AC2 fulfilled the potential of the first game and Brotherhood expanded and refined. It always feels like with the third one things are starting to feel a bit tiresome and with the fourth one they have to revitalize it in some significant fashion. I don't care if you've got a 500 person team, it's impossible to do that in a year.

Hmm, could be cool. I wish it was WWI/II though.Badosh

That would be grand, have the Assassin rush at enemies with bolt action and automatic weapons.. I still facepalmed when at the ending of the second where Desmond is giving a hidden blade to fend off some guards.. Yeah because you know, the Templars don't use guns, rubber bullets, gas, or tasers in the future..

Big cities in early America were really far apart and, depending on when it is set, the game will lack any famous architecture. Yeah, the buildings will be small but I don't know how the gameplay is going to hold up in more modern times. I can't see charging at somebody while they shoot you --- the hidden blade will be pretty useless unless they lean on stealth far more than before.

If it was set in America, you know you'd be working for the Free Masons. Or they'd be the Templars, one or the other.Sig12047

Uh oh, you know what that means? Over the shoulder camera angle, cover system and chest high walls.

Ubisoft already adopted the yearly release schedule. If they're going to announce AC3 sometime on May (or so I heard) its obvious is comming out this year. Furthermore there was a thread long ago saying they were going for yearly releases.

And I'm all for that.

I believe Ubisoft has implied such a thing.

I still think it's in French Revolution, the British guy practically gave it away at the end. Besides, 18th century America has less political drama and big cities compared to Revolutionary France, let alone Renaissance Italy. If it actually takes place in America, I don't think I will like the idea much.funsohng
It's going to be 1970's Newcastle.

They said there would be an AC games this year, not necessarily AC3. It could also be the (already announced) 3DS game.

There gonna kill Assassins Creed like they killed Guitar Hero. They should slow down a little. There's been 3 games in 4 years.

American Revolution would be an awesome setting for the next one.

Yes if it is older then more then 30 years old it is considered History.

If it is less then 30 years old it is just contemporary.

Thats because both boston and Philadelphia I dont believe were plotted ahead of time like grided cities a la NYC and beyond. Boston and Philly were built as they went, very european. I live an hour from Boston and trust me you wont be dissapointed with what that landscape offers to this franchise.

sad comments really... Early America is full of history and legend. It would probably be the best suited time this game has seen yet.

Sounds interesting. Probably Assasins are colonists and British are Templars or something.

I would rather the French Revolution.

dommeus

That would be cooler but I think they're going for this because of the whole Illuminati specter that's left it's fingerprints all over the US's founding.

The French Revolution was a bit of a more organic event.

If you take into consideration what we saw in Brotherhood and the architecture of cities like Boston and Philly an AC game in this setting is very doable. There were plenty of guns and missions outside the city in Brotherhood so thosecomplaints are pretty mute. All you need is narrow streets and multistory buildings to maintain the AC formula and that's without even thinking outside the box. There's a good chance the next game will change things up a bit. We've already had 3 games involving a guy in robes running around on rooftops. You can bet the next game will retain some of these characteristics but will also do things a little different. 18th century America is very practical if you stop and think things through.

Actually, now that I think about it. Who says they can't do the French Revolution. It could just be the 'Brotherhood' chapter for AC3. It could potentially use the same character too.
