Sony owns both Resistance and Ratchet IPs
just like final fantasy and tekken?[QUOTE="Warriorboy1990"][QUOTE="Shiftfallout"]Sony owns Insomniac. Its not going to happen. ShiftfalloutFail, they AREN'T owned by Sony. They are a 2nd party developer, not a first. Do you know what a second party developer is? Their IP's and contract agreements, most likely a non-compete clause, with Sony is pretty much the same as being a first party with more independence from the publisher (sony). One of my associates worked at insomniac as well as sony, he pretty much said that they are tied to Sony in just about every way possible. Essentially, in the business world there are only 1st party or third party developers, it always comes down to that one way or another. Insomniac is seen by the industry as a first party developer. In order for Insomniac to develop for multiple consoles, they would have to have Sony let them go AND have to find a third party PUBLISHER (EA, ACTIVISION..ect) to back them. Its the only way, and its not gonna happen. I don't think you even know what a 2nd party is. While Sony may own the Ratchet and resistance IPs, they do NOT own Insomniac which means Insomniac is NOT obligated to develop solely for Sony, while possibly contractually obligated to Ratchet and Resistance staying Sony exclusive. There is no "they are practically first party". It doesn't work like that. Using your logic, that would mean Epic games is "practically" a first party for Microsoft because Gears of War is a 2nd party product.

just like final fantasy and tekken? No, they actually do own them. Like, legally. Because they're the publishers. They never published Final Fantasy or Tekken. The main difference is... Bungie can still sell 5,000,000+ on the 360 alone. Insomniac's highest selling game this gen was RFOM with around 3,000,000. Great sales, but their other games have sold around 1.5 to 2 million I think. Not bad sales, but would sale so much more going multiplatform. Mediocre games can still sell 1.5 to 2 million on the 360. Insomniac sees that I'm sure. If Resistance was on the 360 as well, it would have sold alot more.Probably the its the same as the rumors which used to say Bungie and Epic will make PS3 game soon lol.

Insomniac might stay exclusive to Sony for the same reason some games never make it to the PS3. [QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"]Ultimately the choice is up to them. We know they are comfortable developing for the 360, so whichever game they make we know it will at least be on the 360. The choice is NOT up to them unless MS refuses the title. Everything Bungie makes has to go through MS first as a part of the deal of ALLOWING them to go indy. If MS doesnt green light it, they are free to seek other publishersI'm pretty sure a first right of refusal doesn't give absolute control to the publisher and automatic publishing rights, it just means they've the first right to enter into negotiations for the publishing deal. If a mutual agreement can't be reached with amenable terms for both parties I would imagine they are free to then shop around whatever IP they create.[QUOTE="navyguy21"]Where did i say they couldnt move on from halo? I agree, i want them to stretch their legs with something else, but saying that said title would be on PS3 is a stretch.........which is what he was implyingnavyguy21
If it does just automatically give MS the automatic right to publish then I don't know why they even bothered to go independent.
Probably the its the same as the rumors which used to say Bungie and Epic will make PS3 game soon lol.

I thought Sony and Insomniac shared a really good relationship. This seems to come out of nowhere.

They do have a great relationship and thats why I think its bs rumor. I mean im still waiting for my bungie ps3 game:P.

Don't fall for it. I've seen plenty of commercials for IG's top 3 games this gen. AHUGECAT is a known lemming.[QUOTE="navyguy21"][QUOTE="killa4lyfe"] I think once they are done with halo, Bungie will make multiplats :)SaltyMeatballs
1) MS owns 49% of Bungie
2) MS has first rights to publish anything coming out of Bungie
3) MS could easily aquire majority stake in the company to prevent that (and im sure they would)
Why would they? MS owns Halo which his all that matters. Let Bungie be, they are not the holy grail and I'd like to see what they can do outside of Halo.well this is the same company that spent over 3 million dollars aquiring Rare LTD sooo anythings possible...

I want the old rare back :(Insomniac developing multiplats is good for 360 owners & this can only mean good things for Insomniac if true.
However I remain very "meh" about it... Insomniac doesn't create anything that I'm interested in. Ratchet & Clank is a quality series, that I just can't get into. I guess Nintendo has spoiled me with their superior platformer. Resistance, though I own both have only played the 1st, is average in every sense of the word.
Sony should pay up and buy Insomniac gamesSolid_Link22
Sony just bought Media Molecule, though, and that's after one game, namely LittleBigPlanet. Wouldn't they have bought Insomniac years ago if they wanted to?
E3 2010
Don Mattrick: So that wraps up our Microsoft's presentation for E3 2010, I hope you enjoyed the show.
Ted price slowly walks out on stage and taps Don on the shoulder. Crowd cheers.
Don Mattrick: Wow, it's Ted Price from Insomniac Games everybody!
Ted Price turns his attention up to the giant projector as if to reveal a new game, but the screen quickly fizzles to static as an image of Ken Kuturagi appears. Ted sharply turns and sucker punches Don Mattrick in the stomach. Don makes a loud groan and slumps to the floor.
Ted rips his "I love Xbox 360" shirt to reveal a Sony logo shirt underneath, as the nWo theme plays Ted off the stage to raucous cheering and audible gasps.

Good for Insomniac. I personally couldn't care less about what they do as their games don't interest me, but I think it would be a great business move for them.

Please don't link to Kotaku they are one of the worst flamebait site's on the interweb.IF it were true, I would hope it would be a new IP, Rachet isn't my taste, and while Resistance is fun it's not exactly AAA material to me. Yes yes I know what the 2nd Resistance scored here. :PtagyhagWell let's put it this way... if Halo 3:ODST is considered AAA material then Resistance 2 is definitely AAAA material. lol ;x
B. This would really hurt relations with the company that made Insomniac (success wise)dercooNo it wouldn't. The real world isn't System Wars. Businesses know the importance behind competition. Just because Insomniac may choose to make games for the 360 doesn't mean Sony will stop supporting them or vice versa.

Where did Epic and Bungie come into this? Epic has already made a multiplat this gen. Unreal Tournament 3. And they sell their engine to developers to use on various platforms. And if Microsoft was so uncomfortable with the idea of Bungie developing games for other platforms they wouldn't have let them go.

Sony owns both Resistance and Ratchet IPs
just like final fantasy and tekken?heres a skinny of why they were exclusives lets start with FF
Final Fantasy:The main number ones of 7-12 (excluding 11 which is an MMO) were primarily ddone on the PS platform for one main reason the optical disk.At the time of FF7 there was a need for FF to become more modern and transist over into 3d while its as expansive as the older ones which were before it the amount of FMV's made it impossible to put ona cartridge without ungodly production costs and this was a key in why we moved over to optical media as it offered far more space for a much much much lower price. Then the fact the PS2 was dominant last gen and there wasnt that much of a market for Final Fantasy on the Xbox so most likely Square didnt want to bother with porting as they had a big user base to play with.
The reasoning behind FF's exclusivity the last 2 gens was mainly technology and a loyal market for their games even at that the series as a whole was not exclusive as CC and a few others came out but not with as much commercial success as their playstation peers
Tekken:Dates back to the old Namco arcade boards which im sure were based off PS1 hardware meant easy ports of games like Tekken which became a success mainly cause of its simple pick up and play and on top of that addictive nature helped a lot, before tekken was released on PS it was massive in arcades i remember it as a 5 y/o kid getting tekken for my b-day i could finally play that game i played when i was on holiday with my parents. Also Sony had a hand in publishing a couple of them im sure most likely some agreement between the hardware similarites of the arcade boards and the PS1 architecture and hardware.(the same can also be said for Ridge racer and time crisis).
Tekken's a prime example of making a quick buck but retaining and even improving the graphics and various other aspects over their arcade counterparts, back in the day Namco had possibly the five biggest hitters when the PS1 was in its early days Ace Combat,Ridge Racer,Soul Blade,Tekken and finally Time Crisisall came from Arcade board games aswell....only ace combat has really become console centric from around 2 onwards.
On the other hand Ratchet and Resistance are controlled by Sony much in the same vein of Halo is controlled by MS.Sony funds in exchange for the rights to the IP at the same time means insomniac like bungie arent primarily going to be controlled and told what to do and when and are much more able to make decisions on time scales and dev time frames more so than a 1st party as the dev could just go meh and make a multiplat right after it.Its mainly bout appeasement on both sides.
[QUOTE="Parasomniac"][QUOTE="gugler990"]Microsoft already let Bungie go. They won't buy them again. Microsoft still owns a large stake in Bungie. Bungie just bought back their independence. Still if its a democratic board majority will always take victory and in a sense its smart for MS to do so as they would make money from these games being multiplat aswell...
