It's possible but by no means is it unlimiting.

Depends on the franchise with games like Kid Icarus, it might as well be a new IP

They don't have infinite dormant franchises like that to draw on. Kid Icarus takes a lot from the original game anyway, its always referencing it. And the whole setting and characters are mostly the same.

the game plays completely different, just like kirby epic yarn, who could as well be a new IP (and it was for a while), but familiar faces sell. they play like new IPs, why change the face for the sake of change?

That's also because they have never tried since Pikmin. When they did- Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, Brain Age, Wii Series, Kid Icarus- they were.

you realize that, AC aside, all of those examples from you are post-pikmin, thus making your "they never tried since pikmin" line kinda silly?

I know, my post is poorly worded. What I mean to say is, WHEN they tried post Pikmin, it worked for them.

Only for the first 9 chapters. Then as soon as Hades, Viridi, and the Aurum shows up things get crazy

I don't care nor have I ever bothered to check what reviews it got. All I know is that I hated it, and it ranks up there as one of the biggest disappointments of the gen for me. I don't even care about the story, I thought the gameplay sucked, the map layout sucked, the music sucked, the lack of exploration sucked, and overall, it just wasn't Metroid to me. Even if Fox is chained to Samus' leg, at least if this rumor is true, Retro will be the one working on this series again,

Well... that would certainly be... interesting... :? Personally, I would much rather just see them make a new Metroid and a new Star Fox, not combine them, but it's a unique idea, and I'm sure (if it's real) that Retro can pull it off.

To those who say "why bother, I'm ok with the same old same old", "it wouldn't sell anyway" or "who cares, as long as the game's good." You people do realize that with that kind of mentality, the games you like so much would've never been borned right. Just saying.

laus_basic

Nobody is saying there is anything wrong with new IPs, people really enjoy them.

They are saying how complaining about Retro not working on a new IP is pointless, they're making some quality games. Remember how Prime is just like Super Metroid? No? Because they were granted creative freedom for the most part. Retro wasn't forced to make Donkey Kong Country Returns they wanted to do it, a lot.

"Proved themselves countless times.", five, three from one trilogy, and an extra from that same series. Also, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes was actually not all that great, still good, but probably their worst. Beam ammo, In Metroid?!
-Some folk at Retro Studios wanted to develop a new ip that involved 3rd person sci-fi action with intense aerial combat.
- Others apparently were leaning towards taking the Star Fox helm.
- Nintendo sees Retro Studios as a very competent developer and worked with them in creating the hybrid title of Star Fox ? Metroid: Fusion Saga.
- The title has multiple gameplay mechanics and needed a wide staff of talent to incorporate the many ideas.
- The story begins as you control Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team on deep space mission in your Arwing, flying through a Meteos-like stage. As you enter a light speed warp, there?s a collision with an orange ship (Samus?) and the game continues with you now plummeting to a planet as Samus in her craft. You?re in mild control of her ship, using the Wii U controller to look around and touch screen press the lit up buttons to prepare for impact (while the TV stays locked on what you see out of the cockpit). You?re now on land, as a ?yet again? stripped down Samus Aran with the most basic of weapon abilities, in first person perspective, traversing through this unknown planet.
- The game switches off between intense Arwing space and planetary battles as Fox makes his way to the planet that Samus crashed on and a Metroid Prime-like experience of gameplay as Samus on this planet, gradually uncovering its mysteries, leveling up, etc.
- The Star Fox stages represent what the series is best known for, including the chatter and coming to the aid of the rest of your team, all range mode battles, and on rails stages.
- The Metroid part of the game puts you alone, void of human or any talking character contact, and like the Prime series, sees you gaining upgrades, battling bosses, and in this case, repairing your ship.
- The game is said to be epic in size, scope, ambition.
- The pacing has been perfected to not interrupt what the feeling is behind either franchise, since Star Fox is more often known for being acceptable to have short sessions with and Metroid rather the opposite. You can opt to continue playing either just Samus? part or Fox?s part without crossing over for much of the main game (or play it as it?s scripted back and forth), but will eventually have to complete both, as the characters will ultimately meet up.
- There will be later parts in the game where you do get to control Samus? ship and fly it Star Fox style.
- Likewise, Fox McCloud will be controllable by foot (both the above and this bullet point represent a period in the game after the two sides meet up) and be played via 3rd person perspective. Think of Jet Force Gemini with Fox?s known agility as he?s portrayed to having in the Smash Bros. series. (Fox will move more like Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden and less like he did in Star Fox Adventures).
- Though a tentative title, the idea behind the story of ?Fusion Saga? is both a play on the fact that the two series are fusing together into one game and of course, a storyline behind Andross using Metroids to enhance himself, his army, etc.
- Star Fox ? Metroid: Fusion Saga is wholly a satisfying adventure game as Samus, an equally electrifying aerial combat game as Fox, and something that delivers an exciting, special change that fans will love.
- In consideration was the Star Fox portion having 4 player co-op online, but instead the game will have leaderboards for time and percent complete for all parts of the game and multiplayer will be simply versus mode based.charizard1605

This is the same site that leaked Playstation All Stars Battle Royale and Donkey Kong Country Returns, so...

I mean, it sounds crazy, but then again. who's to say it's crazy enough?

Thanks for reporting it as a rumor! Some places are claiming it to be fact and worse yet, saying that I'm claiming it to be real. Crap, people don't know what the word "rumor" means, lol. Like with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, that was a fact so I confirmed it as such. Star Fox - Metroid: Fusion Saga is like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Crisis = good rumors that could happen but have nothing to show for to prove what they're worth. At the very least however, I do think that this game had at least been discussed in a roundtable meeting and some point. I would advise people to be optimistic that if the game is real, it'd be handled with care, but to not be too wishful at the same time, that it is in fact 100% legit. In 17 days, we'll hopefully learn all.

Renegade_Fury

Your reasons are COMPLETELY outlandish

How? I thought the gameplay was awkward as hell, and I stand by everything else I wrote. It sucked, but if you liked it, congrats.

Also, what hes not getting, is that it sucks relatively. Other M isn't a bad game, but it can easily be considered a bad Metroid game. If a game is good, but does not hold up against its predecessors then of course people will be disappointed.

I dont think FFXIII is an awful game on its own, but when compared to previous installments its a steaming turd. Same with MGS4 compared to the previous entries. I'm sure even NG3 is a decent enough hack and slash, but its getting a lot of hate because the previous titles (mainly NGB and the Sigmas) were so damn good.

And no, your reasons are not outlandish. They are common complaints. If you would have said some vague bullsh*t like "I didnt feel teh magic!" that would be one thing, but you were very specific lol.

Its so difficult to communicate the most simple ideas on this board sometimes.

I think an F-Zero Metroid cross over would make more sense. Both the main characters are bounty hunters.

once again, Retro stuck with old franchises instead of creating a new IP. Way to go Nintendo, keep on relying on those 20+ years old franchises. Hope this isn't true no matter how good this game might look.laus_basic
I'd like to see Retro do something of their own too, however working on an existing IP isn't a bad thing. I get people who are saying if the game is good, why does it matter - because in all honesty, it's true.Retro is an extremely talented studio that has proven they can put interesting spins on existing Nintendo IPs, with Nintendo's guidance. But like I said above, I wouldn't object to Retro creating their own IP as it'd probably end up being great since Retro is extremely talented.

The irony is that this was meant to be a new IP, but then miyamoto decided it needed traditional characters. Within 5 years Retro will be owned by Microsoft making Kinect games.

Just you watch.
On a more serious note, it sounds like a terrible idea.
No thanks.

If there's a totally new Metroid game from the ground up, with new enemies, I maybe all for it. Haven't played a Metroid game since MP1 on GC. Even that game I wasn't even too jazzed about, especially with the lack of a decent checkpoint system, which killed the fun for me. It was an ok game though, but the replayability just wasn't there for me.

Star Fox I don't care for, haven't cared about the franchise after N64.

Ofcourse they could also try to make separate games, then the crossover.

Either way...

I've had time to think about this. I love Metroid and I like Star Fox but after the abomination that was Other M I do not want to see this cross over. I want a Metroid game done right. Having played Metroid since the NES Metroid is one of the few franchises that keeps me gaming. I was really hopeing for more out of the next Metroid announcement then some cheesy cross over. I hope it's not true.

I have tons of games in my collection. Of the 80 games I have for my PS3 I would rather play Metroid trilogy over and over.

Wut?

They brought Metroid into 3d better than anyone could have expected, made a highly rated trilogy of it, its the series that put their studio on the map and your friend wouldnt expect another eventually? Especially after what happened with Team Ninja and Other M?

I'd bet money Retro will crank out at least one Metroid game this gen, not even counting the possibility of this cross over. And with Nintendo supposedly paying more attention to core fans with the Wii U the deal is sealed.

I'd love it, but this sounds very fangame-ish.... which makes me doubt its validity. It also seems like a poor business move to mix two genres that aren't exactly mutually exclusive. Some fans of Starfox/action games might find the Samus portions to be too slow, etc.

If anyone can do it, Retro can.
