No, doesn't look like it accepts drops. "If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time--currently three minutes, if I remember correctly--the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started."

"If there isn't a connection, no games or apps can be started," the source continued. "If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time--currently three minutes, if I remember correctly--the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started."

Even though it would be god tier for SW's, no way MS is doing that.

This wouldn't really affect me, my consoles are always hooked up to the internet anyways...but I can see why people would hate this if it's true.

They would and would market it as a revolution in gaming. The article explains that the next xbox is going to be a cable box with gaming capabilities on the side. If your cablebox is connected 24/7, why not the next xbox? Did you hear about the dual-GPU in dev-kits? I bet it's a second videochip to function as a DVR.

My cable box works just fine with no internet connection.

This was my thought exactly when the rumors of an always online Sim City started circulating. I agree that it probably won't happen, but I wouldn't put anything past a company that charges people an annual fee to be able to access content they are already paying for from Netflix.

So just like PC games then. My 360 is always connected anyway, but I wonder what their reasoning is behind it having to be connected always.

Maybe if the only PC games you play are MMOs, Diablo 3, and Sim City 5.

Always online DRM is something that should never be...especially on a Console. On PC, it's due to rampant piracy. On a Console, it's just overkill for no reason. I literally own every console back to the NES but, if any of them go "always online", I will never buy it; And I own all the Consoles every generation by the end.

The only reason for always online DRM on consoles would be if they were trying to eliminate used games. Based on the glowing review of the Xbox 720 by the Gamestop CEO, I really doubt Microsoft is going to do that, so I also really doubt these rumors are true.

I have a hard time believing this is true. I think it would be much better if all it amounts to is online registration/activation of each game, then that should allow for offline play. Always online to me seems more like a strong anti-piracy effort rather than a no used game effort. Considering how MS does DRM on the Xbox 360, I don't see them really needing to change things much for the next system. For instance if from my Xbox 360 I buy a digitally downloadable game on from the Xbox Marketplace, the rights are tied to both my console and my account, if the game is played from the console no online is required, and I could play it from any account, but if I say move the content to another console without transferring rights, always online is required from the account the game is tied to. This is pretty simple and effective, what this rumor is proposing sound regressive which is why I have problems believing it.

I hope they're false. It would be a shame, MS has some gems in terms of exclusives that came out over the 360's lifecycle. It would be a shame to miss them on their next Console.

It's really just Blizzard. While it's unfortunate that you have to be online to play single player Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, those games are really built around multiplayer, anyway.

When it causes games like sim city and diablo to have horrible horrible launches, and then causes EA to openly state "we were wrong about DRM", yes. Otherwise it's just corporate suicide. Smart developers have zero online/drm at all or offer ways to surpass it.

Anti Used game can't be based around DRM or else medium they using have serial number, which with current standard manufacturing methods is impossible with optical discs (they could burn something small maybe?). Device won't able to distinguish copies without some sort of uniqueness, which with current method is serial number that you need to type manually. At that point it does not matter if you online or not as digital copy protection is pretty solid on sonsole, or else hackers will able able to crack whole console up This is just my speculation, but MS (and Sony as well) could simplify this process via QR Codes as both consoles suppose to have camera out of the box

As long as casuals won't get annoyed they will go with it, combining rumors that they plan to attach xbox 720 to cable TV services they could fool people that xbxo is dependent on cable TV service.... they already fooled even hardcore gamers that they need to pay for any access to Internet to console, even thru some of them are free for any device connected to internet.
