As much as i love MS new policys on backwards compatibility and bringing superior hardware (Scorpio) to the market. The one thing they constantly fail at is games.

@mems_1224: or you know, with that huge pile of liquid assets they sit on, they could have ensured a quality release.
I'm baffled at how hard it is for you to understand: MS cancelled a promising game. This hurts gamers and the developer. You admitted that, but for some reason you aren't able to place that into context. You enter the discussion ready to defend MS from the criticism they deserve for this decision.
Also, you think ffxv and tlg aren't successes? Do you just want to seem increasingly out of touch?
Im not saying they shouldn't be criticized. They weren't making the game though. The Xbox department doesn't have infinite money just because MS does. Thats not how companies work.
Doesn't FFXV have to sell at least 10 million copies just to make its money back? I wouldn't call that a success.
Came in here expecting people to blame MS for this even though no one knows wtf happened. Not disappointed.
This sucks as i was looking forward to the game. I hope everyone involved recovers from this.
We don't know the full story, yet people (cows) are blaming MS for canceling it (they never cared about it anyway) shutting down P* & putting Kamiya in a mental facility, and none of you know shit, but you sure as hell know how to fling it.
The real cancer here are the people (cows, one is also a mod) for them it's just another thing they can put shit on MS for.
If it turns out that MS did some stupid shit, then i will give them a peace of my mind, but until then i will wait.
@primorandomguy: To be fair, the fact this even started such a big controversy is itself an indication of how fragile the existence of a platform with no dedication to exclusives can be.
When your lineup is thin, every title has value. It's not like just fanboys are reacting negatively to the news, either. MS is letting down its fanbase. A far worse problem than giving rival fanboys ammo on a forum dedicated to that sort of thing.
This is a troubling behavior specially coming from MS. Microsoft used to play very shady in the computer business, they would buy small and promising companies and close them and keep their patents and never use them. That's the way the became powerful, not by smart investments but by killing the competition slowly and limiting the market to their offerings. I find that MS could be using a similar tactic now by slowly destroying promising multiplat developers in that way making the whole industry weaker. It would make sense for them since they have resources to win in a weaker industry. Right now there are many well- established developers for them to do anything without a strong first party but on an industry with less powerful competitors they could monopolize it by pure brute force. MS truly sucks.
LMAO. What your wrote makes absolutely no sense. How the hell that does this benefit MS? How does closing their own studios help eliminate the competition?
LOL, you idiot. They destroyed a multiplat studio. Not their own. Learn to read
@Desmonic: You dont get paid till the game is done. Now that game is canceled, they have to pay Microsoft depending on contract promises.
That sucks, like big time, I let out a loud audible "Noooooooo" (like Vader) at work, people looked at me while I had my head in my hands. The premise of the game looks really really good, 4 years or so of development down the toilet, that must hurt for Platinum so much. I'm not blaming anyone here as I don't know the full story, but it is very very sad. Took a lot of excitement off the Switch conference for me as this is huge.
@iandizion713: That's not how it works. At all.
But it kinda is. Remember that third party company who stated if they didnt complete the game they wouldnt get paid and would have to pay for breaking contract. Said they needed money bad to save company so they tried their best. It was a Sony exclusive.
Why so much fanboying? Platinum makes excellent games for all three consoles and this is a major blow to them and Kamiya seems to be in a poor mental state and many jobs are in jeopardy. Seems like a bigger issue than which stupid console is winning doesn't it?
@Shewgenja: Yes, but how is MS letting down its fan base if this wasn't their fault? Also I've enjoyed my Xbox One, a lot actually.
@iandizion713: That's not how it works. At all.

You get payed for hitting certain milestones (and those are defined between the devs and the publisher/whoever is paying/co-paying for the project). However, you cannot withold funds from a small 3rd party studio (which is what PGs are, they're small to medium and need other publishers to support their own projects) and at the same time expect them to not only survive, but create content that can cost several millions + hundreds/thousands of hours to make (and the costs of staff that come with that).
Your argument would work if this was say a Bethesda or EA game being made for the XB1 (or any other console/platform). Those publishers are big enough to support a full project (big ones at that) from start to finish and only get payment at the end. Even then, it's not how it works for them either.
Withholding pay? Is Microsoft being run by Donald Trump now?
Nah, they were paying for quality and Platinum was delivering shit. Can you blame MS? LOL
Thats Donald Trump all right. If work isnt up to his standards he has a track record of refusing pay.

Sounds like a good policy.
@primorandomguy: I'm not going to assume whose fault it is. MSes recent track history on this kind of thing would lead me to give Platinum the benefit of the doubt by a long shot, but since the rumor mill is painting this as a complete cluster f, I'm neither going to add gas to that fire nor am I going to necessarily park this gasoline tanker elsewhere in the meantime.
I'm just not going to take the conversatjon there and I would wisely suggest not getting caught in the blowback by exercising a modicum of caution.

Really? They destroy multiplat studios to make the market weaker so that they can eliminate competition. Is that the nonsense you believe?? You seem to be swallowing concentrated stupidity by making and believe that nonsense you wrote.
Withholding pay? Is Microsoft being run by Donald Trump now?
Sounds fake, to be honest. That's not even legal and easily defeasible in court.
Microsoft is not some small food joint with illegal staff that would make such a mistake.
Yeah, they would sue Microsoft easily.

Unless your "standards" are made up bullshit you use because you don't like paying people.
MS further proves why they are trash, nah lets cancel the one interesting IP while maintaining crapdown 3 and SoT.....christ man if the GF didn't play on the X1 I would get rid of that thing.
This is Elveon all over again back on the 360, GD I wanted that game to come out.
@Shewgenja: Fair enough. Same here. IDK enough to comment, if MS is at fault, I want to know why, and if it was over something stupid, **** MS, seriously. But on the other hand, if Platinum and Kamiya was being hard to work for, and not cooperating, listening, or Working. **** them. But it very well could be both, or neither of their faults.
Nah, they were paying for quality and Platinum was delivering shit. Can you blame MS? LOL

True, as long as the expectations are clear from the beginning for both parties, it is good. People need to deliver and not half ass shit. This applies to any kind of deal. More fucks would be given and quality would rise.
I like how people are saying "microsoft knows what they are doing" when the same company was caught bribing youtubers embarrassingly, were responsible for the xbox one launch fiasco, and has done bad decision after bad decisiion.
On the other hand, we as consumers knwo what we want and we keep an eye on the industry if we are on forums like this. No, being a big company doesn't mean they know what they're doing, just look at nintendo who literally only had to make a console between ps4 and ps4 pro level and they could have coasted on tons of profit on exclusives.
Companies don't know what's best, people who knows what's best knows what's best. Also it's cute how "you don't know the details", well I'm not a fly on their wall but isn't that what fucking discussion forums are about, none of you know what is going on either, it's not like charzard is closing down microsoft based on insulting this shitty decision, so they can say what he/she wants.
This game wasn't at the top of my list but I was going to get it on my powerful pc.
Can't, Microsoft owns the IP
---
Microsoft is poisonous, plain and simple. I am never giving them the benefit of the doubt again.
They don't care about the medium. They care about how Xbox can further their other ambitions. To them, Xbox is a scapegoat, a sacrificial lamb, a Trojan horse, that means nothing to them in and of itself.
These are just the ones that were made public. If we get into behind the scenes stuff, Microsoft just looks even worse. Obsidian almost went under after Microsoft cancelled Stormlands.
At one point this generation they actually had more 1st party studios than Sony listed. You'll notice that many of them are no longer on their website, they closed several studios and teams this gen that they've kept under wraps. You know Decisive Games which were rumored to be working on a new Age of Empires? You'll notice they no longer exist. Twisted Pixel had their new IP cancelled and they parted ways with Microsoft.
Forgot about the Phantom Dust reboot and the studio that got closed alongside it.
Wait, a new Age of Empires? FUCKKKKKKKKKKKK

With that avatar, I question your judgement.
@iandizion713:
Just following the business for a while, nothing more.
Of course, it also depends on how the contract was made in the first place. If PG didn't safeguard their own interests, even if its shady to (supposedly, again I can't stress this enough, supposedly!) withold payement for a long period of time and expect PG to still function and be able to advance the project without going into 24/7 crunch time (and financial stress at the same time), perhaps from a legal standpoint MS may be in the right. Dunno. This could be fake, or could still be legit but with MS being in the "right" in the legal side of things. A business is a business I suppose.
This is where I think Nintendo and Sony differ most from MS as a whole. Sony will sink 10 years of dev time (and god knows how much money) into a game like TLG, which could easily flop in every sense of the word. Nintendo also doesn't mind waiting, though not sure if they ever would "TLG" it (can't recall any super duper long projects from them). MS seems more likely to cancel something if it takes too long or doesn't seem like it could pay off. Stuff like Project Spark, Fable Legends come to mind.
Hey I want Rare to be good.
But usually games Mems gasses up, play like doo-doo butter. The mechanics are shallow, the mission designs are usually trash, about the nicest thing you can ever say is "I mean it looks kind of pretty, and you can be bored together with your friends". I don't make mems games unfun, they just naturally end up that way.
thats it, you're off my ship.
Time the **** out, aint no lifetime where you would be the Pirate captain. You are definitely that dude from Pirates movies who has the fake eye ball.
Such very disappointing news. I was really looking forward to this game. It's a damn shame that it didn't work out no what the reason.

Kratos is like the lamest character in video game history. Absolutely horrible in every aspect.
