A shame Platinum couldn't get its shit together to make this game work. It was a cool concept but it always looked like shit when they showed it off
Honestly, this gen has been real bad for Platinum.
-Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 (don't even get me started on the latter...), though well received, sell like ass and I don't think Bayonetta did too well in DLC sales for Smash.
Jesus Christ, this shit again
Bayonetta 2 sold 700,000 copies on the Wii U- the first game sold 1.2 million across two systems. Platinum got paid by Nintendo regardless, the losses, if any, were for Nintendo
Bayonetta is the second most successful Smash DLC character, after only Cloud
Your entire trumped up narrative that Bayonetta 2 represents some kind of world ending catastrophe is trumped up and nonsensical
May I ask where are you getting this from? Because every Bayo 2 sales argument generally leads to using a certain blacklisted site for reference and DLC, again, where are you getting this? 700,000 still sounds pretty disappointing all things considered.
Since you mentioned a certain T word:
@FLOPPAGE_50: In other words you've got nothing and you continue to fellate Phil Spencer, gotcha.
I gave you a fair comment, you're the one getting salty over it.
I love the irony you always show though, you DP sony more than anyone here.
Lems damage controlling already.
Hope Sony picks up the remnants of this and decides to support kamiya
Can't, Microsoft owns the IP
---
Microsoft is poisonous, plain and simple. I am never giving them the benefit of the doubt again.
They don't care about the medium. They care about how Xbox can further their other ambitions. To them, Xbox is a scapegoat, a sacrificial lamb, a Trojan horse, that means nothing to them in and of itself.
Lionhead hasn't done anything good in almost a decade
Rare has one of the most interesting looking multiplayer games coming out
Bungie could do whatever the **** wanted and cancelled multiple non-halo projects before they split off. Good riddance because they are a shit company now that turned their back on their fans
@silversix_: So good. I still watch that occasionally.
I like all the "platinum is bad" damage control going around now that its cancelled
While these fanboys try to justify it by saying P* is bad, I'm over here playing Vanquish and MG Rising. Yeah... so bad.

These are just the ones that were made public. If we get into behind the scenes stuff, Microsoft just looks even worse. Obsidian almost went under after Microsoft cancelled Stormlands.
At one point this generation they actually had more 1st party studios than Sony listed. You'll notice that many of them are no longer on their website, they closed several studios and teams this gen that they've kept under wraps. You know Decisive Games which were rumored to be working on a new Age of Empires? You'll notice they no longer exist. Twisted Pixel had their new IP cancelled and they parted ways with Microsoft.
Forgot about the Phantom Dust reboot and the studio that got closed alongside it.
While none of the gaming giants are perfect, what you pointed out should raise a warning to all who enjoy video games. MS is not really out to bring video gaming to people, but to control it as much as possible and make money off of every avenue, even if it means shutting down devs who will not abide by their expectations.

Nintendoboy posts dumb shit, like universally, why are you shocked by this? Never seen someone so delusional of basic context. At least the fanboy dweebs are just regular dumb.
Platinum Games also recently pulled their game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan off all digital store fronts and that game was only less than 8 months old. Not really sure what's happening within that studio but something is happening, so hopefully they get it together and continue to push out more games. As for Scalebound, when I first saw gameplay it didn't really interest me, since I'm not really into these Japanese developed games with "anime" looking characters or "weaboo" art style. But if they're fun to play like Bayonetta then I don't mind.

I find it hard to believe 700,000 is anything that good in sales for a sequel of a game that did better on two consoles (and on each of them too), and all I ask is evidence that it's any good. Until then...

Its on the wii u too, which sucked and is geared towards wholesome family entertainment, so you kinda have to take that into account too
Yup, I played Nier on my PS Pro. Not a pretty title. Fun as ****, but not that great looking.
@silversix_: nier visuals? Lol what visuals?
LOL exactly. if this is all they're able to give us in 60fps ON A MORE POWERFUL SYSTEM, THE PS4. How the f did anyone expected this (pic above) to be running on a Bone, a console that is ~30% weaker? Think for a second and you'll understand. MS is just hype with no substance. Be ready to be royally disappointed about Scorpio.
I've have never played any of their games, and this game fail to get me excited so I don't care. Their recent games, e.g., Star Fox Zero, Star Fox Guard and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all flopped.
Star Fox Guard was Nintendo, and Zero was basically Platinum doing coding with Nintendo actually directing and producing.
none of their games appeal to me either...mad world, bayonetta, wonderful 101, star fox, all crap. i did enjoy the demo of nier automata tho

Let the number be damned for a second, given how little success the game had, and how much Sega wasn't willing to foot the bill, I would argue Nintendo's relationship with Platinum is pretty good. Bayonetta 2 wasn't going to be a game Nintendo expected to sell a million, and Nintendo tends to take care of studios they work with. Historically they've been much better about it than say one of their competitors.
But lets cut the bullshit, it's not even like you have good reasons to bitch like a little girl about the Bayonetta stuff. You're still complaining about other people complaining on the internet, and not being universally positive about Nintendo. And that's some grand hate crime...and god fucking christ that shit is always followed up with some stupid Family Guy analogy, George Lucas, or whatever, not only does the reference usually make no sense, but then you have the nerve to link that shit. Like damn forget the post being dumb, even the presentation is stupid.

Sure, but that was a super belated port to help catch Nintendo fans on to the series (what good that did) and for a time was bundled with the second game, so not too many are going to care about how THAT version did.
MS owns the IP, so if they parted ways with Platinum then some other developer could finish it.
Actually, when asked who owns the IP, M$ said they had no comment.
So, maybe not?
And even so, they could always just pull a FROM Software and change the name of the game a little bit to release it on PS4 using the same engine and assets.
Rare has one of the most interesting looking multiplayer games coming out
Guns of Icarus being neato aside, what the **** are you basing that on?
The only bit of footage we got is a bunch of youtubers playing the game. It's a cool concept, but it's hardly been anything we got substantial footage on. Shit could be like GTA online and heists. "It's gonna be the shit fam"...comes out, we get heists a year later, no one wants to admit that shit secretly sucks for awhile, and then slowly but surely, eh "its a single player game anyway, because based Fraudstar"
Personally dont care since i never found it interesting in the first place.
But i guess is another slap to MS fans that were looking for something.
When games get canceled i would like for companies and developers to state the reasons behind such decision.

It's possible Microsoft will hand the IP over to Platinum if they don't have plans to do anything with it. This was supposed to be Kamiya's dream game and I doubt there are other studios capable of tackling this project.
The big problem here is that Platinum now has a ton of developers working on nothing. When this happens then layoffs occur or even studio closures.
I'm disappointed Kamiya wasted his talent and time on a project I won't get my hands on. :(
dude took some time off for his mental health too. So I'd imagine they haven't crunched like this in awhile (if ever), and that's what makes this one sting more. Albeit last time he had his pride challenged we got Bayonetta, so maybe he'll bounce back with some fury.
Gameplay and in-game graphics looked like complete shIt from the beginning. It always seemed like a troubled project.
More resources for Bayo3 ??

Hopefully Nintendo contracted Platinum to work on Bayo3 for the Switch and Hashimoto's team is working on it.

It sounds like (from what little we know) that Kamiya bit off more than he could chew with current hardware vs. his vision.
I can't wait to hear more information as this affair unfolds.
Maybe a Tell-All book in a decade.

Okay, fine, maybe the relationship between the two companies isn't bad, but given that this is an industry where making hits is pretty important, excuse me for being skeptical.
And since you had to bring up that last part. God forbid I have bad feelings about my favorite company where I feel like they're losing what's making them great, because, I'm sorry, I thought I didn't have to kiss ass to like them which certain posters on this damn forum had to teach me (two of which I'm talking to right now). Should I be happy they're selling crap like Mario Run? Should I be happy that they went always online? No! And I shouldn't be because that is BS we get on other companies for.
I admit, I have a bad habit of "complaining about complaining", but that is because I freaking HATE the hypocrisy generally spouted and I feel the urge to respond to it just to at least try to put them in their place, which will probably end up in me getting insulted and made fun of (so save your breath).
Ugh... I'm done.
I'm disappointed Kamiya wasted his talent and time on a project I won't get my hands on. :(
Same, I was actually looking forward to playing this game.

Yeah, I was too bro.
Every thread that popped up regarding Scalebound, I was cheer-leading for this game front line and center, just due to Kamiya.
Bummer of a day. :(

Yeah grow the **** up.
Explain to me how Bayonetta 2 hurt what made Nintendo great? That system got one more great game than it would have had otherwise. I get that it didn't sell to a lot of people, but as someone who grew up on Nintendo machines, I'll safely say that outside of a nice deal later, I probably wouldn't have bought a WiiU without the two Platinum games. Would have easily been the first Nintendo console I've missed since I've been in a position to get consoles. Bayonetta being poorly balanced for smash sucks, but that's a design failure on Sakurai. Her being the most plausible out of possible votes was a short sighted process on Nintendo's part. Doing an open ballot, where people could post anything, instead of limiting peoples options by telling them "hey, we could get these folks, who would you be down for". And given that she finished top 5, it wasn't exactly an unpopular pick either.
How does Mario Run or Pokemon Go change the fact that they still make good games? The new Zelda looks genuinely dandy, and Mario I'm sure will be fine on the console entry part. In contrast even when they were making Mario 64 or Ocarina of Time, they still made stuff like Yoshi Story. That game was a 65 on Metacritic in an era where Nintendo shat out 90s. So them making a bad game isn't anything new.
Should Nintendo be criticized? Absolutely, for shit actually worth criticizing them for. The stupid ass amiibo dlc, how conservative they are, how behind the times they are in terms of online play, how none of their big studios ever truly take shots at new ips, how their hardware design decisions cripple their chances at third party, and they somehow continue to not recognize that they fucking need to capitulate once in awhile, and they fucking don't. How two copies of Pokemon is kind of bullshit. How two versions of Fire Emblem is kind of bullshit.
Gameplay looked like complete shIt from the beginning. It always seemed like a troubled project.

Platinum can always just re-use the assets for a multiplatform release under a new title

the footage they've shown plus the general positive feedback from the closed alpha looks and sounds cool. the game wont have a feature where rare sends someone to your house to step on your balls in heels while you play so you probably wouldn't be into it
A shame Platinum couldn't get its shit together to make this game work. It was a cool concept but it always looked like shit when they showed it off
Why is this Platinum's fault? If this leads to P* taking any damage, it will be MS to blame.
P* is a great studio; it continues the legacy of some of Capcom's best talent.
I really hope P* comes out of this well.

because its been delayed multiple times and in development hell. i wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to delay it into 2018 and MS told them to **** off
An unfortunate outcome for sure, I was looking forward to seeing more of this game...the premise of online Action RPG with Dragons was cool to me., and this particular Platinum games group had a good reputation it seems.
At the end of the day it's a business decision though, and without knowing all the facts I cannot comment much on it.....I don't know any of the critical details that come into play with a decision like this. Were they significantly above budget? Were they having personnel issues? Did Microsoft pull the plug too soon? I can only imagine what goes into a decision like this, and nobody must be happy about it. But it is what it is, will be interesting to read more details as they emerge but with this kind of high profile project I just don't think we will know the real truth anytime soon.
Uh oh! If true this would be bad for the lems. There would be so many salty Xbox fans.
It is true, MS have confirmed it :/

This is a troubling behavior specially coming from MS. Microsoft used to play very shady in the computer business, they would buy small and promising companies and close them and keep their patents and never use them. That's the way the became powerful, not by smart investments but by killing the competition slowly and limiting the market to their offerings. I find that MS could be using a similar tactic now by slowly destroying promising multiplat developers in that way making the whole industry weaker. It would make sense for them since they have resources to win in a weaker industry. Right now there are many well- established developers for them to do anything without a strong first party but on an industry with less powerful competitors they could monopolize it by pure brute force. MS truly sucks.
