I'm hearing rumblings about Kamiya having a full fledged breakdown, and taking a break from making games... WTF
I was going to take this with a grain of salt, but given that it's Jason Schreier reporting, I am now concerned. This would really suck as it is one of the games I was actually looking forward to.
Well the news is on the official website so the game is done with. :(
And lems think sales are not important. No one will be making games for the xbone if it doesn't sell. MS should just discontinue the xbox and leave the space for someone else.
Microsoft made the decision, because the game wasn't good enough.
The first CGI trailer looked great, but once I saw the gameplay I wasn't impressed at all. A shame they weren't able to create a decent game, hopefully the available funds will translate to a new, better game.

Microsoft made the decision, because they destroyed the game and the developer with their moronic management.
Fixed
I wasn't totally sold by it, but I was definitely interested in Scalebound. Really unfortunate for those who were waiting in anticipation.

Yeah I just read the news it's a done deal.
I just don't understand, how a game that was 4 years in development can just get the axe? Especially with a lot of time and money invested into it? I guess Sea of Thieves is MS only wild card game they have now.
Lems damage controlling already.
Hope Sony picks up the remnants of this and decides to support kamiya
It's disappointing but i think it is for the best. The game looked terrible.
Maybe they can revive it later on.
Sucks that a game is cancelled but...
it serves right to PG for alligning themselves with MS. They're the cancer of gaming ever since they came to it
This is kind of unbelievable. What in the hell is going on with MS? How could they let this happen? Wasn't Scalebound one of their biggest upcoming games? All I can say is they better have a fantastic E3 with new games shown if they don't want to start losing some serious ground.
This is... surprising. I wanted to be interested in this game but there were a few things I wasn't too keen on. Definitely kept an open-mind though since we hadn't seen everything.
It's a shame, for sure.

And this part is interesting. What in the world happened with it? Could Microsoft be difficult to work with or was the project just a little too ambitious? I have not read all the posts so if I'm missing something please enlighten me.
So, it's confirmed. F***!

Well, this proved an earlier post correct.

One possible situation was that Scalebound was a complete mess and Microsoft would have had to invest a lot of resources into it hoping that Platinum would fix it and they decided against it. Scalebound E3 2016 showing had that terrible framerate drops and giving the fact that this game had a lot of issues, I guess MS just say **** it and go with something else.
Edit: The same happen with Fable Legends from Liongates studios situation.
Now I have zero reason to get xbox.. thanks MS.... you con me twice for Halo, Gear and Forza box and there will not going to be a third time!

Can't, Microsoft owns the IP
---
Microsoft is poisonous, plain and simple. I am never giving them the benefit of the doubt again.
They don't care about the medium. They care about how Xbox can further their other ambitions. To them, Xbox is a scapegoat, a sacrificial lamb, a Trojan horse, that means nothing to them in and of itself.

Even if they do put on a good show, who can trust them? Fable Legends, Scalebound. Just buy our system and wait three years before you're told it ain't happening.
Watch Crackdown, Halo 6 and Gears 5 all become Scorpio exclusive. Just one more way to shove it up the fanbases' asses.
The inside story is that Platinum were unable to make deadlines (they took on too many projects), the game was unable to run properly on standard Xbox systems (it was too ambitious), and Microsoft was unwilling to work with them and invest more money into the game.

this e3 will be about scorpio, not games.

I do have a hard time taking their claims seriously. But to be fair, all corporations lie. A lot.

Because they don't fucking have any.
i wouldn't say its worse. Pronto is on par, yeah, but the others are much better than this douche.

True. Only difference is, they used to be subtle about it.
Cows using this as an excuse to claim they "cared" about this IP, lmao.
MS knows what it's doing, there's a reason it was cancelled.
Remember the "what the hell is going on at Sony " meme?
Guess it's MS's turn. You messed up,MS
Time to drop out of the race and try again next gen.

Likely. I'm willing to give MS the benefit of the doubt, though. Maybe that's dumb of me, but whatever. We'll see.
MS owns the IP, so if they parted ways with Platinum then some other developer could finish it.
It may not end well if that happens.
MS knows what it's doing
Clearly

That is the truth. They are not happy to cancel it, but they felt it needed to be done. Sometimes you just need to end it.

Clearly
You don't know what goes down inside MS and why those went down, You are just spewing random MS hate.
SONY has gotten rid of MANY developers over the years too, this is MS 3rd console, SONY has 4.. SONY lost a lot of franchises and IPs from PS2-3.
Lems damage controlling already.

Something is going on with MS and relationships with developers. I don't know of they are poison, but MS is having some issues none the less. I really wanted Scalebound and I'm pissed.

Exactly, the dude went insane.. what if they had released a buggy and unfinished mess, that flopped 2/10 everywhere?
Rather just kill it, it was probably a smart move, MS is a billion dollar company and most posters here are armchair CEOs
@FLOPPAGE_50: And yet Sony will spend 10 years on a niche game like TLG, six years on Gran Turismo 5, just to ensure that the damn thing actually gets made. MS will... dump the studio like a hot potato if the game spends too long in development? And oh, the funny thing is, Sony is poorer than MS, you'd think it would be the other way around.
Kamiya has apparently been having mental health problems or something, perhaps that was what influenced this decision?
The inside story is that Platinum were unable to make deadlines (they took on too many projects), the game was unable to run properly on standard Xbox systems (it was too ambitious), and Microsoft was unwilling to work with them and invest more money into the game.
So why is Microsoft the bad guy exactly? This isn't for children, money isn't endless in this industry. Do you know how much money the game already costed? It's been in development for almost 4 years (since 2013) with apparently barely anything to show for. But no Microsoft should just keep pouring money in an empty pit, because it's for the "arts".

How is that even your argument? you've got a whole other agenda going on.
YOU DO NOT KNOW what happened with the game and STUDIO.. the game could be in a real bad state, do you not know what a development hell is?
Very few franchise recuperate, look at DUKE NUKEM forever.

Sony will spend 10 years on a niche game like TLG, six years on Gran Turismo 5, just to ensure that the damn thing actually gets made. Nintendo will buy a developer who have never made a single commercial hit, and give them carte blanche access and six years to come out with a new IP, delaying deadlines so the game meets their vision (with Xenoblade and Monolith Soft). MS will... dump the studio like a hot potato if the game spends too long in development? And oh, the funny thing is, MS is richer than the other two, you'd think it would be the other way around.
