MS knows what it's doing, there's a reason it was cancelled.
Yeah...
@charizard1605: nice copy and paste response.
clearly you're on a bash xbox parade, with no real insight to this thread.
The site is up but it has this message, looks like it's true:
Today, I have a difficult announcement to share that affects our fans, Microsoft Studios team and a valued partner. After careful deliberation, we have come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. This decision was not made lightly.
At Microsoft, we remain committed to making Xbox and Windows 10 the best places to play games, and look forward to bringing "Halo Wars 2", "Crackdown 3", "State of Decay 2", "Sea of Thieves" and other great experiences to our fans.
@FLOPPAGE_50: Duke Nukem Forever flat out changed studios at least twice.
Platinum Games are among the most talented developers in the industry. If they had been given time, they would have delivered.
MS still owns the IP.. But if the guy is having mental breakdowns/issues and the game potentially is unfinished with it's vision not achieved, why continue it?
MS knows alot more you do.
rip scalebound, im sure the xbone will follow suit
Doubtful, especially with Scorpio coming out this year. It sucks though. Microsoft need to stop cancelling their big game exclusives and start announcing a lot more.

@silversix_: lol spot on ?
Sliverdix is never spot on with anything he says. lol!!
Hard to take this seriously when Kotaku is your primary source.
The irony!
OT: Wow, kind of came out of left field if you don't follow MS's titles on a regular basis.

I responded to you separately. I am copying and pasting responses when people aren't bothering to read shit I have already said and asking me questions I have answered. But keep on damage controlling.
@FLOPPAGE_50: And yet Sony will spend 10 years on a niche game like TLG, six years on Gran Turismo 5, just to ensure that the damn thing actually gets made. MS will... dump the studio like a hot potato if the game spends too long in development? And oh, the funny thing is, Sony is richer than MS, you'd think it would be the other way around.
Actually, MS has 13 times the market cap of Sony.

Why would i DC this game? I never hyped it a ton and this is probably the best decision if the team cannot finish the game or potentially mental issues at hand.
MS did the right decision at this point and time, but continue your butthurt hate.

Well didn't MS take 5+ years for Alan Wake? Your example means absolutely nothing. You have no idea what's going on in house. You're just spewing your hate as usual. Go back on your break from SWs

Platinum Games are among the most talented developers in the industry. If they had been given time, they would have delivered.
They sure would have. They have a long track record of very good to great games to back them up. They believe gameplay is king.
Honestly, it could have been worse. What if Sea of Thieves was canceled? That would have truly been sad. Knock on wood.
This meh, there was not a lot of gameplay shown and quite frankly I found it hard to see how they were going to deliver on their promise of 1-4 local coop. With what? Everyone controlling a person in split-screen? Everyone mashed into one screen? Regardless, I don't think it's the end of the world.
The inside story is that Platinum were unable to make deadlines (they took on too many projects), the game was unable to run properly on standard Xbox systems (it was too ambitious), and Microsoft was unwilling to work with them and invest more money into the game.
So why is Microsoft the bad guy exactly? This isn't for children, money isn't endless in this industry. Do you know how much money the game already costed? It's been in development for almost 4 years (since 2013) with apparently barely anything to show for. But no Microsoft should just keep pouring money in an empty pit, because it's for the "arts".
Sony will spend 10 years on a niche game like TLG, six years on Gran Turismo 5, just to ensure that the damn thing actually gets made. Nintendo will buy a developer who have never made a single commercial hit, and give them carte blanche access and six years to come out with a new IP, delaying deadlines so the game meets their vision (with Xenoblade and Monolith Soft). MS will... dump the studio like a hot potato if the game spends too long in development? And oh, the funny thing is, MS is richer than the other two, you'd think it would be the other way around.
TLG wasn't 10 years non-stop in development with a full team like Scalebound was. Indeed Microsoft is the richer one of the three, why? Because they don't make shit business decisions... Sony wouldn't be in such a "decent" financial state if Microsoft didn't **** up their Xbox One launch which gave PS4 carte blanche, and lol Nintendo... They are in a great state currently...
Just because you have money doesn't mean you have to make bad decisions that don't make sense, because you can spare it. Are you really that naive?

youre probably right, but MS really needs some games. They cant rely on just the Scorpio when it has nothing to back it up in supposedly the middle of the xbone life cycle
haha i knew this game couldn't run properly on the X1. it only makes perfect sense when you look at Nier visuals. Then, take into account the fact that PT has all their games in 60fps and there was no f'ing way this thing would run on a Bone with this kind of graphics and frames on an HD 7700, slow ram and a Walmart gpu.
This sucks...wow. It really sucks to hear this. I can't even say something fanboyish ATM it just hurts man.
Lems damage controlling already.
Hope Sony picks up the remnants of this and decides to support kamiya
Eh, no. The game looked like hot trash. Sony ain't no IP charity. If the basics can't match the classic P* gameplay that's shown in Nier: Automata then it needed to be binned, or at the very least, shot into the earth's core. It looked slow, sluggish, and janky as ****. Terrible concept complete with horrible co-op inclusion, probably to appeal to the xbox crowd who love their multiplayer so much.

Yeah, I mistyped and already edited that.

HAHAHAHA, I forgot about that. @charizard1605 it's time to put the Gorilla back.

That's why I said what I said. More new IP's and exclusives.
Honestly, this gen has been real bad for Platinum.
-Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 (don't even get me started on the latter...), though well received, sell like ass and I don't think Bayonetta did too well in DLC sales for Smash.
-They buddy up with Activision and made the awful Korra and Ninja Turtles games
-Scalebound gets canned
(Some may ask to add Star Fox Zero on this, but any problems with that game are on Nintendo, not Platinum, that said, I still wait for it to become cheaper so I can play it).

Jesus Christ, this shit again
Bayonetta 2 sold 700,000 copies on the Wii U- the first game sold 1.2 million across two systems. Platinum got paid by Nintendo regardless, the losses, if any, were for Nintendo
Bayonetta is the second most successful Smash DLC character, after only Cloud
Your entire trumped up narrative that Bayonetta 2 represents some kind of world ending catastrophe is trumped up and nonsensical
@silversix_: nier visuals? Lol what visuals?
LOL exactly. if this is all they're able to give us in 60fps ON A MORE POWERFUL SYSTEM, THE PS4. How the f did anyone expected this (pic above) to be running on a Bone, a console that is ~30% weaker? Think for a second and you'll understand. MS is just hype with no substance. Be ready to be royally disappointed about Scorpio.
It's never a good thing when a game gets cancelled especially when it's a game from Platinum Games but I can't say I didn't see this coming. There was just something off about how this game was coming along.
@FLOPPAGE_50: Duke Nukem Forever flat out changed studios at least twice.

MS knows alot more you do.
And so it begins....So what exactly are lems going to be playing this year? This game was the most promising looking game coming to Xbone in 2017. I wasn't gonna get an Xbone to play it since I already own a PC but I was looking forward to playing it on Windows 10 if I had to. Why does MS lack the commitment and patience to create a diverse exclusive library. You know if this was Sony they probably would have stuck through till the the end and they are a much poorer company than MS. MS claims that they are in it for the long haul but they always seem to cut and run when there's development trouble. They can't compete with Sony if they don't want to move past HaloGearsForza, this game looked like the beginning of a new chapter for MS this gen and now it has disappeared into the same black hole as Fable Legends and other failed MS projects.

Again nonsense rambling.
MS knows what it's doing, they cancelled an unfinished game, while this sucks.. it was probably needed.
It's not a huge loss, SoT would've hurt more.
I've have never played any of their games, and this game fail to get me excited so I don't care. Their recent games, e.g., Star Fox Zero, Star Fox Guard and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all flopped.
Star Fox Guard was Nintendo, and Zero was basically Platinum doing coding with Nintendo actually directing and producing.
Platinum Studios or not, the game didn't look very good. With that said, an exclusive is an exclusive, and the Xbox doesn't have enough of those.
Can't, Microsoft owns the IP
---
Microsoft is poisonous, plain and simple. I am never giving them the benefit of the doubt again.
They don't care about the medium. They care about how Xbox can further their other ambitions. To them, Xbox is a scapegoat, a sacrificial lamb, a Trojan horse, that means nothing to them in and of itself.
These are just the ones that were made public. If we get into behind the scenes stuff, Microsoft just looks even worse. Obsidian almost went under after Microsoft cancelled Stormlands.
At one point this generation they actually had more 1st party studios than Sony listed. You'll notice that many of them are no longer on their website, they closed several studios and teams this gen that they've kept under wraps. You know Decisive Games which were rumored to be working on a new Age of Empires? You'll notice they no longer exist. Twisted Pixel had their new IP cancelled and they parted ways with Microsoft.
Forgot about the Phantom Dust reboot and the studio that got closed alongside it.
This is kind of unbelievable. What in the hell is going on with MS? How could they let this happen? Wasn't Scalebound one of their biggest upcoming games? All I can say is they better have a fantastic E3 with new games shown if they don't want to start losing some serious ground.
this e3 will be about scorpio, not games.
Because they don't fucking have any.
Seriously. Is MS even aware that people buy gaming hardware so they can play GAMES?
