I feel like im the only one that bothered reading all of that....

to sum it up, they felt like they went to deep with non gaming features and have decided to delay it so they can concentrate on what the gamers would want.

Home is not that easy to develop. It's not a game but will include mini games (i think). We're talking about millions of PS3 owners who will go online that will interact at the same time. To me it seems that they want to release this in full throttle without PS3 owners having complaints (freezes, lags, glitches, etc..) once it comes out..

yeah they will delay it until everyone forgets about it.

No...we all have read it and it's quite simple. They over promised and are now going to underdeliver. You really can't put spin on that seeing how clear it is.

i think more and more devs and publishers are getting interested with Home causing it to delay especially with devs trying to put their games' achievements interact with Home.

first i thought Home was going to be more of a Sim community just for the people and their achievements and til now..

just look at it now, even Peter Moore wants his Madden at Home, so as Dan Hauser with GTA4..

Nedemis

This has nothing to do with developers and publishers. It has EVERYTHING to do with Sony's continuous failure to deliver what they promise. Achievements have NEVER caused 360 titles or dashboard updates to be delayed.

really.., let's see, before Warhawk, R&C, Uncharted, UT3, and games that came out after Tokyo Game Show 2007, Home was ready for its released because Phil Harrison and Jack Tretton stated it at E3 2007 showing it off to the audience..

..but, when the games were released, Incognito, Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and even Epic got interested in putting their achievements at Home hend Kaz Hirai at TGS announced "Home delayed".

FIRST, Home was just a community basically just for people to interact and now look how many devs and publishers are interested on putting their game achievements at Home.., and we're not talking about just Home, we're talking about in-game videos and in-game XMBs as additional for this release

so you're saying that by developers and publishers simply being interested in HOME caused the delay?

Sony's the reason for the delay and nice try trying to convience ANYONE that the fault falls on devs shoulders.

btw....achievements(trophy room) were a part of HOME's initial concept when PH showed it live

do you have a PS3 and games COD4, Warhawk, GTA4, Madden, UT3? if you do then try this:

let's take COD4 for example; go online and look at your stats, and now look at how many people who actually owns the game by looking at worldwide ranks.

now imagine putting all that in Home, WITH people's achievements including Warhawk, UT3, GTA4, Madden, UT3 etc.. AT THE SAME TIME..

remember MGO's beta getting delayed? what do you think is the cause of it..?

To me it seems that they want to release this in full throttle without PS3 owners having complaints (freezes, lags, glitches, etc..) once it comes out..

which is why they should have focused on the things gamers want in the first place. that meant in-game XMB, access to friends list all the time and in every game, custom music.

if they had done that, everyone would have been happy.

people really don't care about HOME and could have very much done without.

These kinds of comments rightly make people feel like it could be delayed into 2009.

Sony get a lot of criticism (and rightly so, in most cases) but I think this year they have learnt their lesson. Delaying Home to focus on gaming is a good move, sounds like they're beginning to listen to everyone's complaints of "no games". They put Rumble back in, it shows they were listening to everyone's complaints of "no rumble".

Motorstorm 2 and Resistance 2 are going to be released in the same year they were revealed- this is a good sign, it's shows that Sony are going to (hopefully) stop revealing games 2-3 years before they're released. At E3 this year, I think any games they announce will be out by the end of 2009- eg. GOW3, Syphon Filter, SotC2 etc.

I think it's finally gotten through to Slowny's thick skulls that people don't like to wait.

Someone is carrying the torch for Sony. Not even sure if your post makes sense. Home is being delayed to be even better yet the Sony rep said it is being scaled back. Contradiction FTW!

there's some pretty neat ideas in home and I'm sure cows will enjoy them when it is released in 5 years. But i think it's a bad fit for PS3 owners (who aren't really casuals). It's also poor form to prioritise ahead of genuine online functionality

I know, the 360 is almost as bad as the PS3 in that respect. Halo 3 was almost a year late. It feels like I've been waiting FOREVER for Splinter Cell 5 which STILL doesn't have a set release date. Left 4 Dead and Too Human have been delayed plenty of times and Alan Wake is just vaporware.

I actually think the 360 should get a lot more criticism around here for it's delays, it's not just the PS3 at fault here.

*sigh* so Sony, promise the world, get all their fans pysched up, delays, more delays and then finally a "*ahem* we've got something to say ...."

Whats going to happen:

1) cows will say they are happy for the delay to get things right - thats not what you were saying this time last year when Home was going to crush XBL

2) "Those features that were scrapped werent needed": hmmm the 10000+ threads about how awesome home would be seems to say otherwise.

3) "Sony are finally concentrating on gamers", yes sure, its not Sony damage control at all, if those features could have been implemented they would have been.

4) "People are just hating on Sony", ok you love Sony, we get it, but there are times when companies deserve to be criticised and this is one of them. Stop promising the moon and delivering cheese Sony. Instead give us realistic aims and promises and deliver on them, if you overdeliver, thats awesome!

What are you talking about?? We have no final information what features are in Home and what features arent. The most we know is that we will have trophies, probably mini games with our avitars, and have a house to decorate thsts it. Did you read the article:

"We've realised that maybe we were too ambitious with the non-gaming applications within Home, getting sponsors and stuff like that," he went on to confess.

"In that sense we were deserting gamers. So, we're concentrating on the gaming by launching games in Home, and attracting people who are into gaming in first - instead of the Nike people, or Adidas people who are into fashion and not necessarily into gaming."

Where there does it say what features were taken out and what features remain. It doesnt, it just says they are working more on the gaming aspect then the marketing aspect, thats great. Home is a great concept but its not like MGS 4, LBP, FF, GOW or any other real game where its delay really hurts us as gamers. Home is great for people who want an online community like Live.

If you wanna criticize Sony for delays go ahead, but tell me when is SC5, Too Human, Alan Wake, etc.. coming out again. All consoles and game developers have delays. The PS3 isnt even a full 2 years of age yet, so I have no problem waiting for Home.

Game developers are different from a console manufacturer promising something to the people who have bought a console or going to buy one. Rather than being overly ambitious Sony would have been better getting the core right, the simple things that are needed and later upgrading. Instead they promised everything, and we've seen delays and now it appears they may well be dropping chunks from Home (you're right we don't know what). You don't see the parrallels here between this and the PS3? Sony was telling everyone the PS3 was vastly superior in power to the 360, and we all know how that turned out in the end.

PS and your final words, it took me alot of restraint not to comment on them :P lol

I understand the delays too. The problem is Sony builds hype to such a huge level and then has problem delivering. People here don't give MS enough credit for XBL. Obviously it takes a lot of know how and resources to construct XBL. Sony can't be faulted for not obtaining the level of XBL yet (software is not its forte) but Sony can be faulted for creating a run away hype train.

Love my avatar too. :P

Yay, it's most def, proably, maybe, for sure, in all likely hood, unless anything else comes up going to get a beta sometime in the fall like October or November or perhaps December depending on what day atumnal equniox falls on.

Good news true believers, we finally get some concrete facts out of these guys!!!

Oh that whole PS3 vastly superior then 360 thing is all subjective. The truth is the system has been praised by many devs for its technology, the problem is what devs are taking advantage of it? We have to wait for more 1st party exclusive games to come out to determine that but people who expected the multiplats on the PS3 to be something vastly different then the ones on the 360 were foolish.

The PS3 does have the core down, I have solid Sony exclusives currently and coming, I can play COD4 online for free just like the 360 and I can enjoy HD movies. Thats the core. You are assuming Home is losing big chunks which I dont really understand where you can get that seeing as we dont have a reference point, or the fact that he never said anything about taking things out, just shifting focus to the gaming aspect. Its also not being rushed, the Beta comes out this fall, if they made this announcement and they said Home would release in July I would agree with your assumption about things being cut but thats not the situation.

I think it's finally gotten through to Slowny's thick skulls that people don't like to wait.

thrones

All consoles have games that are announced but dont get released for a while. Look at Alan Wake, Too Human, etc.

I actually think the 360 should get a lot more criticism around here for it's delays, it's not just the PS3 at fault here.

too bad splinter cell halo and alan wake are not developed by microsoft

Neither is Insomniac :P

who said anything about insomniac we are talking about homenot to mention bungie ubisoft and Remedy are all third party dev teams Insomniac are pretty much a sony dev team

I knew it when I first saw it. I bet it'll be a great disappointment when it launches and it won't create the community that Sony wanted it to. BioShockOwnz

got to disagree with u man as long as they forget about all that stuff that is focus on gamers and focus on the stuff that is then i think a whole lot of people will be happy i know i will.

all you need for sucessful online is a friendslist that is accessable across ALL games. and a microphone bundled with the console or controllers. You don't need any pointless interactive 3d environment. No one will want to waste their time in that. People want to be playing games. I want to be able to play GTA, see that my friend just signed into Halo3, and invited me to his game. I want to accept that invite, put in the disc, and then be in his game. It is as easy as that. Microsoft has done it, sony should be able to do it.

Maybe i'm thinking too consumer, but wouldn't home be a sucess if they just blatantly copied the sims and second life. Achievements = Trophies. Companies can design trophies and when you get them they are automatically added to your room. Communication is blatantly like the Second Life and launching online games (whether full games or minigames) is basically the same as just having people in your sims room, walking to the console and turning it on. That should just switch it to where either game loads off the hdd (assuming its a small casual game like something on xbla) or loads from a disc and goes straight to the multiplayer setup.

Thats what I always thought home was. What is Sony confused about?

Ouch that hurts. Can you imagine hyping it and making all these people fall for it ready to support it in everyway just to realize what you were about to support was downgraded and isn't the same as what they were hyping it up to be. I've always said XBL = helps you connect with other gamers to game, while, Home = helps you get distracted from connecting with other gamers to game.

Sony needs to make Home vaporware and upgrade their PSN instead fast.

Many people were, and still are, excited about the possibilities HOME and the potential it has, but if it means concentrating more on the games and hopefully making them better, then that's all the better.

Funny thing is there is a lot of stupid lemmings talking about this likes it's a huge deal when most cows probably could care less. Look at the huge number of lems responding to this thread and lack of cows. It's no skin off my back because Home never interested me. It's a good idea that they consentrate most of their energy into developing better games.

You mean they finally realized it was a DUMB idea...septicvirus

Dumb, expensive and time consuming.

I honestly could care less about home. It's basically a milking machine for Sony to get money from advertisers and gamers so they can pay for their network services. Because PSN is FREE, they have to get funds somehow to pay for it. We know they are using GameSpy servers, but I believe they have other Network Vendors they are paying to help host their 1st party titles. The only Sony really did right was keep the PS2 on the martket. They are getting continuous revenue from it and developers are STILL making games for it.

What's your point? M$ has been promising a fix for the massive failure rate the 360 has. Have they come through on their promise? NO!!

How do you know that for certain? Do you have a quote from a high ranking MS executive admitting to a failure on their part to deliver? I didn't think so.

I don't need quotes. All I need is the numerous 360 friends that I have that can't make their systems last more than 6 months. Pretty pathetic! What about the falcon chip that has done very little to fix the problem. What about the newer chip, I forget the name, lems have been dragging about that will fix the problem. I believe it when I see it! All companies make empty promises, some more then others.

False, not all companies make empty promises, so that's no excuse to give Sony a pass for their overpromising and underachieving. The relevence your personal experience has is about as relevent as the RROD in this thread. None at all.
