Lol you think, people dissappear all the timeI'm very happy with the court's decision. This is a start.TheMoreYouOwn
I feel sorry for the people who said..Sony doesn't have anything to fight for :D
It just slows down the inavoidable ... good thing in a way, in another Sony should have just hired him to check the security of the upcomming PSP2 and a comming PS4 :S

They don't have anything to fight for since it's a lost cause.
I have seen people ranting because Sony has actually got part of what they wanted.

Doesn't matter, they can't do anything about the hacking or the custom firmware.

me too, i hope this guy goes down hard. Also I have a word for the people ranting about how Sony won't win anything something is not right about anything being said from some of the comments I have read.Seem some anger is being aimed at Sony for trying to do the right thing.
He has already released his tools, there is no stopping it now. Also, this is a TEMPORARY order, which is standard procedure during an ongoing case. Sony cannot and will not win this unless jailbreaking was illegal.......navyguy21A temporary restraining order is only issued if there are grounds for litigation and/or the plaintiff can show probable success.
As the DMCA stands, his actions can be interpretted to violate the law.
I'm all for it. Just going to lose profit if not. At least Sony is trying to Protect their Investments. XBox 360 was Hacked long ago, especially in Asia, no one buys Original 360 Games, Only Pirated. I have never heard such news with 360 being hacked, all of a sudden, PS3 gets hacked and, "Whoa!"... Big News...
BTW, I love both consoles :).
And seeing from your posting history, you would just love that, would'nt you? If all this ever accomplishes is punishing and/or financially damaging GeoHot, it's still worth it.Sony will fail
meatgrinderz
Geohot is no longer the lead on the scene, this will do nothing
Kakaroto is the league on the PS3 scene, they should go after him
Yet the PS3 hacking continues. Seems only MS is smart enough to understand that you can't stop piracy through lawsuits.i5750at4Ghz
Okay, this is perhaps the most absurd observation in this thread, yet. Do you think the piracy has stopped on the 360? Really?

Thats not what he's saying. Read his post again and use your mellon this time....
Terrible news. People should be able to do what they want with the console they buy. Just because some people would be using this for illegitimate tactics like piracy (unsupported by Geohotz) or cheating online doesn't change that fact. I don't want Sony to rule what I am able to do on my own system. It is a system that I have bought and I decide what to play on it or what to put on it.
In the end, Sony will lose. Jailbreaking is legal and there are thousands upon thousands of hackers out there. Now that the master keys are out, Sony has already lost.
I guess Sony is trying to make it so that if I don't let them rule my gaming life, they will come and take my possessions such as my PC, PS3, etc that I BOUGHT.

I'm reading it twenty times over and still getting MS smart for not suing, Sony bad for seeking legal recourse. Microsoft have better solution for problem not solved yet, Sony bad for going different route.
Enlighten me if there is a different conclusion.

As a PC gamer, I give your post legit-sauce. But, the reality here is that no one was crying bloody murder when Microsoft bricked hacked consoles and banned them from online play. Those who play by the console, especially these newfangled integrated networkcentric next gen consoles, will play by the rules or suffer consequences.
Philisophically, I agree wholeheartedly with you, but a different precedent has already been set.

You can't win by suing them. Ever.
It's a waste of time to even try.

He said that there is no need to put the extra work into it to sue the hackers, jailbreaking is a perfectly legal choice consumers are allowed to make.
Microsoft has not stopped piracy but that has not stopped millions of xbox 360 games from being sold.

MS bans hackers from xbox live, while Sony sues a hacker and lets piracy run rampant on PSN. Before you say they haven't had the time to start banning pirates, the original jailbreak of the PS3 happened almost 6 months ago. Sony's lawsuit will solve absolutely none of its current or future problems. It's a bone head move.[QUOTE="iMojo786_PSN"]

Why dont sony hunt them down and put a bullet in them Sorry Sony aren't American. AKA They can't do whatever they want and get away with it.[QUOTE="argetlam00"]

Hacking to cheat online is wrong. Hacking to install other OS's and the like is not.Yea shame on him for writing some lines of code for a machine he owns.Disgusting that there's people like that!

Two thoughts:
1) This will have as much result as the RIAA's series of lawsuit against people illegally downloading music - which is to say not much at all. Too many hackers out there and all this does in antagonize them.
2) GeoHotz knew he was operating outside of Sony's ToS. He knew the risk, played the game, and is paying his losses. No sympathy for him either.
If "them" is the hacking community, its too late, the keys are out, this means nothing and the community will continue to develope hacks for the PS3 forevermore. They hurt them, not completly finished them.
iMojo786_PSN
I'm sorry, but this has nothing to do with piracy. Holtz didn't hack the PS3 to Pirate games and he certainly didn't hack it to to allow others to pirate games. He did it to allow other people to explore and do interesting and unique things with the PS3.Two thoughts:
