Chrono Cross is, IMO, far better than Chrono Trigger, though Chrono Trigger is still great!

Final Fantasy IX > Every Final Fantasy before and after it

Grandia II for the Dreamcast is superior to Grandia in nearly every aspect..

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is, IMO, better than Ocarina of Time; saying that, Twilight Princess exceeds Wind Waker.

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is a far superior game than Onimusha 3: Demon Siege

Wild Arms 2 > Wild Arms

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will always prevail over Sonic the Hedgehog

Well, I guess the original Resident Evils tried to be more realistic and scary. Like in real life, when you lose the last bullet and you are trapped in a room with a zombie... It's scary. Also, I know that people can't hold that many things in real life, but many video games allow you to hold about ten guns at once. The original ones were about exploration, horror, and puzzle solving. Resident Evil 4 is about shooting, shooting, and more shooting. And that's how I like it.

But I do wish it was a bit creepier. There's not nearly enough suspense.

DeathScape666

Thats what happen when you get action and itsshooting, shooting, shooting. There could have been some changes, but it didnt need to be drastically change that much. It lost a great deal of what it was once was, and what made it Resident Evil.

Really, Resident Evil 4 is so different from all the other Resident Evil games that the only thing that ties it together to the other games is its storyline, name, and herbs. (Gotta love them herbs!) But whenever you take a different direction with anything, there will always be the people that don't like it. But the majority of people do like it. It gets better sales because most people find it more fun... So they did change it for a good reason.

And come on, there's enough of those old Resident Evil games, anyway. All those spin-offs and such. Honestly, could there really be that many more differences they could've made without changing it around a lot? Every series has to end somewhere. The Resident Evil series practically is dead. Resident Evil 4 and 5 are pretty much an entirely different series, at least to most people.

That's the shame, at least as far as I'm concerned. There won't be another Resident Evil game deserving of the title. RE4/RE5 don't deserve to be called Resident Evil, and, in fact, calling them Resident Evil at all is misleading. It just goes to prove that even Capcom can become money hounds at some point. RE4 could've easily held a different title altogether, but I think there'd be a few less people praising it had it had a totally different name.

No. Just no. Chrono Cross is an excellent game, and it's one of the highlights of my Playstation collection, but I'd take Chrono Trigger any day (and I'm not talking the good-but-not-great port in Chronicles, either). Chrono Trigger was an amazing experience. Chrono Cross was an amazing experience, too (I'm surprised you're the first person to bring it up, actually). Actually, the more I think about it, though, they're hard to compare. Both games feel equally justified as being amazing. It's one of the even rarer cases where the sequel is as good as the original without being any better either.

I love the Chrono Series with a passion, (Damn Square Enix forforcing the 3D Remake of Chrono Trigger into oblivion, and never creating Break) and I'm inclined to agree with you; however, I prefer Chrono Cross to Chrono Trigger. Trigger's great, but to me, Cross is more spectacular. I guess you could say they both are amazing, and neither can truly be better than the other. But I prefer CC to CT nonetheless.

I'd love to see Chrono Break, but alas, I doubt it. I remember reading rumors around the time that the Wii was initially announced that Square may be making Chrono Break for the Wii, but I've since totally abandoned this, as it's probably the rantings of a crazed Nintendo fanboy Wiitard. In any case, if Square ever came out with Chrono Break, it'd be one of my must-have games. Especially if it came out on the 360, which it probably wouldn't. Between Final Fantasy XIII and Chrono Break, I think I'd actually have enough motivation to go out and get enough cash to get a PS3.

I would have to say Baten Kaitos Origins>>Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Oceanpeaceful_anger

Gah! I liked the first one, but the prequel was never released in the PAL regions. :(

curse of monkey island (best one by far)laughingman42

I wouldn't say that - I preferred Monkey Island 2. I mean, CMI was great, but it didn't really fit in with the established storyline (which forced them to devote a whole sequence to tying up the loose ends of the storyline).

I would have preferred it if the original team had made their intended final game in the trilogy...

*Great List*

Icewind Dale 2 > Icewind Dale 1

AdrianWerner

Really? Personally, I found IWD2 to be painfully boring (in the early sections, anyway).
Then again, just about every aspect of the gameplay was improved...but I still can't bring myself to play past the Targos docks (I managed to finish it twice, but that's about it).

[QUOTE="jalexbrown"]I'm hearing lots of bad things about Knights 2, particularly story-wise. I really enjoyed Knights, so I'm thinking about getting Knights 2, but I need to know if it's as bad as people are saying it is before I buy it, because by the sound of things, Knights 2 isn't an enjoyable game.Sir-Marwin105
I think it is better.

You're not alone there. Then again, my opinion is totally biased, since I've read/heard/seen some of the awesome cut endings.

Anyway, my list:
Fallout 2 > Fallout (I know that some fans prefer 1, but 2 trumps it in terms of role-playing and content)
Neverwinter Nights 2 > Neverwinter Nights
Guild Wars Nightfall > Guild Wars Factions
Vampire Bloodlines > Vampire Redemption
Hitman Blood Money > Hitman Contracts
HL2 Ep2 > HL2 Ep 1
Dreamfall > The Longest Journey (*eep* )
Majora's Mask > Ocarina of Time

As would I; I'm already shelling out the cash for a PS3 in the future, but knowing Square Enix, Chrono Break, if it were to happen, would be more likely on the PS3 more so than the 360 or the Wii. They're pretty much shifting their continuity from the old SNES consoles to the PS Brand. SE is just too focused on Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy; I'm kinda getting a bit sick of it, because the Mana games have suffered and all their other IPs, like Saga, get no love. Vagrant Story Sequel = Win, and I wouldn't mind seeing another Threads of Fate for old times sake.

Bah, getting off topic.

Wow. So many RPGs I didn't get to experience. I guess I was way too caught up in the Final Fantasy hype. Another game that needs a true sequel is Xengears. I'm not talking about Xenosaga, either. I'd love to see a true sequel to Xenogears, because Xenogears was just so much fun, particularly the combat system.

Baldur's Gate 1 vs. 2. I know a lot of people complain about BG2 having too many magic items and such. But to me, BG1 was pretty nice, but BG2 was like "allaaaaaaaaaaaah ackbarrrr".

Maybe the Philips one. But I don't think it beats A Link to The Past.

IT does but since it's a 2D-3D transition it doesn't count as a sequel.

System Shock 2, barely.

Deus Ex 2. Just kidding.

Half-Life 2, mayyyyybe. Actually, yeah, probably. Although.... well, hmm.. I dunno. Maybe not. It's like trying to pick between the first and second Godfather.

Super Mario Bros 2. Okay, just kidding again.

Suikoden 2 > Suikoden

FF7 > any previous FF except 3 aka 6

Chrono Cross slightly > Chrono Trigger *controversial choice*

MGS 2 > MGS

CoD4 > previous ones

Killer Instinct 2 > Killer Instinct (except no Cinder, wtf)

Warcraft 2 > Warcraft

Descent II > Descent (we need a new Descent game)

Aww man that sucks! I would say except for the music, Origins was better in every possible way. It had a better story, better characters, better voice overs (praise the Lord), and better and faster gameplay. It makes me wonder sometimes how it scored one whole point lower than Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean.

Both great underappreciated JRPGs people. If you are into those types of games, you should look into them.

I think it would have been more entertaining to hear games that were weaker than the originals...

But anyway, on topic:

Fatal Fury 2
Mortal Kombat 2
SSB Melee
Soul Calibur 2
Contra III
Streets of Rage 2
Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen 2 (only one i have played/imported, but I hear it's better than the 1st... and then there were a couple sequels after that, hope they make it to the Wii)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II (The Arcade Game) on NES... the first TMNT on NES SUCKED

While your statement is undeniably true, it's at the same time debatable. You're simply stating that the stories do not connect, which is indefinitely true. However, what defines a sequel as a sequel? Do the stories have to connect in some way? If that were the case, none of the Madden games would be sequels, none of the Tony Hawk games would be sequels...I could go on and on, but I won't. Sequels do not have to be connected through the story; sequels are merely connected through name and gameplay, and in that case, all Final Fantasy games are related. Granted, if someone mentioned, say, Final Fantasy Tactics, then I could perhaps see your point.
