Awesome, I was expecting 6.5 millions but I am really satisfied with the money raised ... now make a good Shenmue, please.

I'm hoping for a late 2017 release. I didn't back this one though, Igavania on the other hand, i backed that one.
6 million is a good start and I'm sure they can take it further with PayPal donations however this game still doesn't look as big as it's hype , that in-engine trailer wasn't really promising
The trailer was made before the game even had a budget. Now that they actually have a budget, they can make it look better, and bigger like the old Shenmue games.
6.5M is a good number but for a full fledged 3rd person adventure game like Shenmue, i remain abit skeptical. Unless they have other sources of funding waiting to apply, this is going be a hard time for Yu and Ys Net.
Most KS games ended up needingalot more than the intial funding, like Shovel Knight, Elite, Broken Age, etc. And this game, besides SC, is the most ambitious and money.requiring of them all.
I'll hav to wait and see.
I am proud of PlayStation. A little shout out to the few PC gamers that pledged.
Being salty all the time is bad for your health
I had this game for Teh DreamzCast. I don't see what all the fuss is now a days for it. Playstation must really need games bad.

They can make a lot more than that through PayPal donations, like Star Citizen. Shenmue III could make over $10 million through PayPal donations during development.

You should keep in mind that SC had a site, ships, modules, design posts and shit ton of stuff where they communicated alot with the backers right from the start. SC's money is both a case of extreme luck but also extreme level fof commitement and communication with the community and everyone else.
Contrast that with S3's KS campaign and................yeah. "Awesome" Japan doing an "awesome" job. While i can see paypal being helpfull, SC needed an extra 8 month to get to 10M from it's 6.5M in the first month. And that's the issue. That's considering how well executed CIG was overall. To get to 10M, without even a proper website for shenmue 3, it could take a long time, sadly.
Still, is 10M even enough? I don't know. Budgets are extremely high nowadays. Shovel Knight needed 1,4M. Bloodstained needed 5M, has the 500k was the 10% to prove the publisher.
Would 10M be enough for a game like Shenmue, even without the marketing costs? ATleast they made a great choice with the Unreal Engine. it's stuff like animations, combat engine, interactivity, voice acting, and so on, that'll pile up.
Hoping for the best.

upfront I didn’t see anything wrong with the environment in the trailer , it’s mostly Ryo’s face that won’t stop bugging me, I heard even Suzuki-san wasn't satisfied with the design. if you ask me , they should’ve done it with a facial motion capture and 3D scan so Ryo and Sora wouldn't looked like some characters from PS2 era.

I can see where you're coming from. Shenmue I & II had some of the most realistic-looking faces of that generation, so it seems pretty weird to see Shenmue III's faces look so stylized in comparison. I was expecting something more like the Yakuza series, which has more realistic faces, like a modern evolution of Shenmue I & II. Either way, the trailer and concept art were just early work based on their first experiments with Unreal Engine 4. Now that they've got to grips with UE4, and have an actual budget, the graphics should improve a lot, regardless of whether they go in a more realistic or stylized direction.

Q/A with Yu Suzuki starts in less than 10 minutes.
You're a Shenmue guy? It can't all be because Sega, right?
I'm a Yu Suzuki guy, and I have friends that are really into this series. I didn't care much for Shenmue when it came out (I probably would have though if it had stayed a Virtua Fighter RPG with Akira as the main character), but the passion that the fans and Yu Suzuki have for it is contagious, so I'm supporting the kickstarter mainly for them. With that said, I went back and have been playing Shenmue I and II for the past two weeks, and I have a much greater appreciation for what they were attempting to do now than I did before. To keep it short: these games are trying to do everything, and not only is it super impressive considering how old they are, I think it works for the most part (that 40 floor building in Kowloon can go to hell though). So yeah, I want to see where Yu Suzuki takes Ryo, Shenua, and the player next too.
@Buckhannah: mmhm. Yu said he was gonna try and wriggle them loose.
I wish him luck, Shenmue 1&2 in HD with english subs would be a great thing to have.

Sega did say they are going to reveal on TGS something to win back the fans, hope Shenmue 1&2 HD is included in that
Someone got a big payday.
Bet only like 20ppl gunna work on the game and prob. spend less than $1m on these episodes or DLCs.
Sad ppl actually think he can make a AAA open world game with < or = $10m

Literally just said in one thread "no, gamecube made a profit" delete button meanwhile my brony pics don't trolol gg idc anyway nor should you. Anyways, people know when they are trolling or not and posts do get deleted sometimes for no reason human error.....
You really are a moron. It's gonna be "shit" because of a few extra mini games? gtfo
He wanted 10 mil to do a proper open world game 5 mil gets you smaller areas read the fucking Kickstarter info before coming on here spouting your drivel.
Dude all you do is sound like a sour grape in every post you make. I'm beginning to think you have someone's steel-toed boot lodged firmly up your ass.
You seriously think another 5 million dollars would make your Assassin's Creed clone? People are fully capable of making quality games without super budgets you know. The game will be great regardless of the final budget.
You really think 5 million dollars is nothing??
It is nothing
COD MW2 arguably by fans the best COD developmental budget was only $50m and surprise surprise rehashed maps, familiar guns kill streaks, same engine. Devs and or publishers like to line their pockets deeeeeeeep.

Much of COD's development budget goes towards things unrelated to the actual game design, e.g. celebrity voice actors, soundtrack, licensing, etc. In comparison, Crysis only cost $20 million to develop, for an open-world game, including the development of the most advanced graphics engine ever seen at the time. Also, The Witcher 3 cost $30 million, which has an open-world much bigger than the Shenmue series, and includes the development of a new engine. With UE4, like Yu Suzuki said, $5 million is enough to match the size of the first Shenmue's town, while $10 million would be needed to match the size of Shenmue II. And through PayPal, it's possible they could eventually raise over $10 million during development.
Fail. Sony can't even raise money right.
I could have raised more money with neighborhood kids pitching in to clean up dog shit.
Word is they have plans to kickstart the R&D of the PS5. The nerve man!
lmao lems salty because their precious MS let Shenmue die and they aren't in on the party. Bunch of parasites.
Cool for the Shenmue fans, hope the finished product meets their expectations.
Most ever for a video game?
The Kickstarter for Shenmue III has just wrapped up, and after the month-long campaign, developer Ys Net has raised $6,333,295 from 69,320 backers.
That figure more than triples the $2 million goal Ys Net set out to reach. This is the new record for a video game Kickstarter; earlier today it surpassed the $5.5 million raised by Castlevania: Symphony of the Nightdirector Koji Igarashi's recent efforts with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Wow, PS4 is on a ROLL guys.
Hope the game does well. Still skeptical about it though. While I understand Kickstarter is a good thing, at the same time it is also like saying "Here is the game we know you want. Now prove it how much you want it"
I just hope this doesnt start becoming the norm for the industry, where if you want a game you have to pay up front before it even exists.
