The price difference doesn't matter to me. The Vita is a little more money but also better hardware so it's a wash.

Normally I would easily choose the 3DS but there are 2 things that concern me about the 3DS and i'm thinking maybe the best thing is to wait for the refresh.

1. The 3D worries me. Not because I think it's a gimmick but because I think it may damage my eyes. I did try one at best buy and it felt a bit weird. The effect was awesome but I love my eyes and I don't take chances when it comes to them. However, maybe this thing is completely

safe. So I ask the people here who own 3DS, do you play with the 3D turned on or off? Do you get headaches? Did you at first get headaches? What is your overall impression of the 3D?

2. The screen is too small. I'm a grown ass man, I don't need tiny screens on my handhelds. Nintendo had it right when they made the DS XL. I don't have a problem with them releasing a version with the tiny screen but they should also release an XL version for adults. And I have perfect 20/20 vision. So don't think I need the big screen cause I can't see well or anything like that. I like the screen big because I can see the games better and with the 3D effect it would stand out even more.

The PSV has the big screen, has the graphics, has everything but it doesn't have the games. Nintendo is number one when it comes to software. Also the Vita is risky to buy due to it's poor performance in Japan.

I'm thinking maybe I should wait for Nintendo to release a refresh. Maybe the refresh will be an XL version with 4.5" screens. Also the 3D effect may be much improved and safer for your eyes. I can buy the PSV now and wait for the refresh.

But maybe the 3DS is great as is and i'm just falling for BS on this forum. What do you think, which one should I get?

Xplode_games

1. I play with the 3D off. I don't really like the 3D, and the slightest movement of the system misaligns it. If the thing damaged your eyes, though, I'm pretty sure it would be all over the news by now and it would be well known.

2. The screen is perfect in size for me. It's a handheld, not a home gaming console. If you don't like small screen, why are you considering a handheld? The Vita has a small screen as well.

Honestly, I don't see how I can make this decision for you, or how anyone else can. How are we supposed to know how important owning a 3DS would be for you? I want to play the new Mario and Zelda games, so I bought one. I wanted Mario Kart 7 as well. I don't think a revision is coming out anytime soon. The games made it worth buying for me, but I have no idea how much you like the games for 3DS.

I would just get both. I'm gonna get a Vita when it comes to the US. I don't like choosing one or the other because they both have so much to offer.

Unless you play for hours and hours with 3D on, your eyes will be fine. You can turn the 3D off too. It's a feature of the handheld but the most important thing about the 3DS is the games, not the 3D itself. It's just a nice bonus.

I personally don't mind the screen. It's big enough for me.

I would just do research on the games coming out/is out for the 3DS and see if you can get the system cheap somewhere. Your choice will/should probably be based on the software and less on the hardware. Games for the Vita will probably look better but that's not a deal breaker for me. The exclusives are and the 3DS have what I want. You can do a wait and see approach though. See if any revisions will come out soon or see what games the Vita will get.

The 3DS is great. I'm a grown-ass man as well and I love it. The Vita is still a gamble at this point, but the 3DS is a sound investment if you like playing great handheld games. The Vita might end up being very successful in the future, I hope so because I want one too, but that is still a bit hazy.

It won't hurt your eyes; I really don't think it's unsafe at all. The 3D effect is a bit worse at first until you adapt to it. If your initial reactions to the 3D were positive, then that bodes well for you enjoying a 3DS. The screen is too small, definitely. If you think that Nintendo is number one when it comes to software, then that's a good indication that you'll enjoy the 3DS most.

OT: I played the 3DS and it was great. I also was worried about messing my eyes but surprisingly with Zelda OoT it was perfect. Vita doesn't have too many games but man the hardware is awesome and so is the screen. 3DS has the better current and future library.

Get both if money is no problem, I play with the 3d off it gives me a headache if i have it turned on for more then 10 minutes at a time. As far as the games things goes, theres more games coming to the vita at lunch that i want now then what i want for the 3DS a year on after its release.

I have not used a Vita yet, but believe me I am unbiased.

My take on it is that the Vita obviously is more powerful and for that reason (mainly) I prefer its tech. Now I do not know how reliable and durable the system is. The 3DS is fairly good about this except for a screen scratching issue that is easily (but annoyingly) avoided. Obviously the Vita is more expensive (as you know and said you don't care), but seems to be worth it. Really what it all comes down to for me is the games. The 3DS has a good few awesome games out already, and tons more to come this year and on. The Vita has a lot of games, that are arguably great games, BUT not enough of them are Vita exclusives that greatly interest me.

So for now I say go with the 3DS, but that is just my opinion because the Vita lacks a lineup that warrants a purchase from me. I am sure I will buy one down the road when I see more games for it.

Oh and as for the 3D effect, it is surprisingly awesome with some games, though at times has its drawbacks. I wouldn't write it off as a complete gimmick is what I am saying. The concern you have about health issues is one I had too, but I end up using 3D pretty much all the time (I have probably used my 3DS for 30 hours or something so far) and it doesn't even effect me anymore. It only had a bit of an effect the first time or two, but I never notice anything now.

we get rabid sheep from time to time, don't mind them.

Vita definitely has an edge in launch lineup but to say thats how who wins or loses out of the games...lets just say if those were awesome games and the rest of the lineup for the year was complete trash, I would NOT buy a Vita, or a 3DS if that same sh1t applied.

boring gameplay of pokemon is your opinion, not a fact. Thats like saying why get Wipeout or Modnation Racers, its ohhhh soooo boring. Does that make it a fact? Nope, just my opinion.

well it is certainly not doing very well either.Even if it is dying I am not trying to imply that the 3ds is the reason,I think the smart phones are the one who are really hurting the traditional handheld market.I dont think that there are only 2 competitors in the handheld market.Smart phones and apple are also part of the heavy competition and I would argue that the competition is much much heavier in the handheld buisness than in console buisness. The Psp did well in the beginning and was practically and equal to the DS,the higest selling gaming device ever,at least for the first few years. But times have changed and we are not in 2004 but in 2012.The problem is that back then the handheld business wasnt as compromised and difficult as it is now.The mobile phones are the ones really killing the Vita. And ds certainly attracted all type of gamers from any age but thats a good thing and helps the companies to make money, which they can use to make great core games.

The 3ds is very successful and is on the way to outsell the life time sales of the PS3 in just 1 year in Japan but I think the 3DS is the exception to the rule. The multimedia aspecte were big for PSP but nowadays phones are better at that.Well the games argument is very objective and if you prefer the Vita line up then good for you but in terms of critic score(e.g. metacritic) the 3DS will probably always have better games(Zelda Ocarina 3ds is at 94 at metacritic and Mario 3d at 90).

Just get the system that has the Games that Interest you the most.

All the Talk about 3DS giving Headaches or Damaging eyes I think is just pure BS. The 3D on the 3DS doesn't do anything like that and you'll probably only turn 3D on for a fraction of the time you will play the 3DS, and that's probably for reasons like "I want to see what it looks like in 3D."

If Nintendo Franchises don't Fancy you, then just get a Vita.

Yeah sure 3DS is getting Monster Hunter, Metal Gear, and Resident Evil first, but you know those titles will eventually hit Vita. Heck I wouldn't doubt Resident Evil 6 will hit the Vita.

Why choose when you can have both? You said you didn't like the games as much on the Vita as the 3DS though. Even with the smaller screens, you'll have more games you like so I'd go there. If price mattered, then I'd say that, too.

Monster Hunter 3g has sold as much as a Mario kart and Mario 3d land game.Capcom has no reason to make a Monster Hunter game for Vita now, unless the install base increases signifigantly.Resident Evil is very unlikely as well for now at least. The point is 3DS is on its way to outsell the life time sales of the PS3 in just 1 year in Japan. So the 3ds has practically an install base equal to the PS3,so it makes sense for devs to make exclusive content for it.

This^. I had a thread like this a week ago and ended up purchasing a 3DS a week ago. So far it's been awesome and you won't regret it. I play with the 3D on and I've had no headaches. The screen size of the 3DS is fine and the graphics are actually pretty good. Ace Combat looks great on the 3DS. You really can't go wrong with either handheld. The only reason why I chose the 3DS over the Vita was because of price and library. Vita doesn't have much and it's a little pricey. So you might as well get the 3DS first and enjoy the games and wait for the Vita to get a better library. By the time the Vita gets a better library, the price will be cut so you will save some cash as well.

If price is not an issue, get both. Otherwise, you have to decide according to what kinda gamer you are. 1) If you like games on portables that are similar to their console brothers, go for the PSV. 2) If you like games that are wildly different to those on home consoles, go for 3DS. But seriously, buy both...

Get the 3DS... if you're unsure because of an inevitable redesign... then wait for that. Don't bother with Vita, for now at least... cuz like you and many others say, its got nothing really for software....

So put your decision off for a bit, is my advice.... but imo, the smart choice is the 3DS.... when all is said and done, the 3DS is going to destroy the Vita in software, I guarantee it.

I play with the 3D effect on full blast at all times and have had no problems at all, even when I'm tired. It was a little weird at first, but you get used to it in a few hours then its gone forever.

[QUOTE="Xplode_games"]

Xplode_games

Because of the 3D, the screen is intended to be held 10-12 inches from the face, so unless you're holding it in your lap, the screen size is more than enough for the games I've played so far.

The PSV has the big screen, has the graphics, has everything but it doesn't have the games. Nintendo is number one when it comes to software. Also the Vita is risky to buy due to it's poor performance in Japan.

Xplode_games

This is the one thing you can always guarantee on a Nintendo handheld: games. With the huge install base and significantly lower development costs, Nintendo handhelds always get huge support, as well as a lot of really unique games. The VITA on the otherhand is struggling out of the gate, and if it continues to do so that will affect third party support.

Nintendo has already stated that they aren't making the dual circle pads a requirement, and given that they're only selling them at Gamestop, it highly doubt theyre going to alienate 15+ million install base by releasing a revision with dual-analog. If you want to wait for a bigger screen or more battery, doesnt seem worth the year+ wait though.

Ultimately I say get both, but get the 3DS first. As you said you like nintendo games, which the 3DS already has with way more coming this year. The VITA doesnt have any games right now that interest me, BUT keep an eye on it because that may change.

Get 3DS now, get VITA later after you see what games come out.

If one doesn't have the games you want, then nothing else matters. The 3D is something you get use to. It took me about 2 weeks, and now I don't want to game without it

Honestly the 3D does start hurting after awhile. Also, 3D seems to produce alot of jaggies in some games.

But I love my 3DS and I can't wait for all the new games coming out this year.

I'm one of the only people here that actually owns both. I'd say look at the line-ups and features then decide for yourself.. You're going to get a bunch of one sided opinions since noone here has any lengthy experience with the PS Vita yet.

Agreed. You wouldn't go wrong with the 3DS just for Super Mario 3D Land + Mario Kart 7 + Backwards Compatibility with all DS Games.

The problem with the Vita is that it doesn't play UMD's. It's not like you can just pop in your old PSP games and expect them to work.

Get the system in which the games interest you the most, everything else is irrelevant, if you don't like the 3d you can just turn it off and the game is still just as fun.

I'm not into mario or kart so it will be wrong for some. Vita works with psp psn games which a lot already have started buying since it has been out for years. I'm more considered for the games not on psn that I want like tony hawk.

I am a person who was skeptical about the 3DS but after buying I have to say that it is a great machine, and as people have said over and over again, Ninty know how to differentiate their handheld games and console games, so you get a different experience from the two, something which I fear will happen again for the Vita as it did with the PSP.

[QUOTE="sts106mat"] ooh, look, kind of proves my point from the other thread eh?

You don't need to prove mario is N's highest selling game everyone already knows my argument was for uncharted.

Meh In your opinion, Everyones different, I prefer Vita because it has the type of games I like, 3DS looks sweet as but Nintendos First Party games dont interest me at all. If they had amazing third party support I would consider buying one, the Vita does have games and will, the vita DOES have great games just nothing sells better then a Italian Plumber.

Wow, are you sure about this? It doesn't make any sense that Sony doesn't make the Vita backwards compatible. I was positive it had BC. This is HUGE if true!

You want to play console games on a handheld? Go to VITA

You want to play handheld games on a handheld? Go to 3DS.
