Hmmmmm....no.
But I would like to see different consoles other than Sony, x-box, or nintendo.
A Dreamcast 2 would be sweet.
What in the world is going on around here? I mean seriously? Sure, I have only been here on System Wars for about 2 years, but where in the world are people getting these rediculous ideas that Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft are in deep danger of going 3rd party or just vanishing from the industry all together? Why is it that when a console maker is going threw a hard time everyone has to start speculating when exactly they will go 3rd party?
Sony isnt going anywhere, their next console might be significantly lackluster/weaker when compairing it to the compitition, but there will still be a next gen console from them.
Nintendo isnt going anywhere either.
Same goes for Micro$oft
Why should they? They're only mistake was launching a $600 hype machine (lol 1080p, 120fps, 4D) with no games.
The PS3 would have likely dominated if all three consoles launched the same year at the same price.
Blu-ray would have pushed units like the PS2's DVD drive.

microsoft should go the sega route with xbox, thenthey just port HALO to PC and evereyone will be happy
no, not at all. as a business, hardware is important for sony. the blu-ray drive in ps3 had a significant impact in the demise of the hd-dvd and saved sony a ton of money as well as put a lot of players of premium priced movies in people's homes. the greater demand for high definition hardware complemented sony's hdtv line. 3D games will do the same with 3dtv's. sony isnt just a video game, movie, tv, and computer computer (among other products). they are an interconnected electronics company. LoG-SacramentThe PS3 was an enormous failure for sony actually. The blu-ray drive might have helped with the succes of blu-ray, but Sony will never make enough from that to make up for the enormous losses caused by the ps3 hardware. Still don't see them going third party though.

Still don't see them going third party though. theres your problem. youre looking at one individual facet (with no link), when when sony gets money off 1st party games, licensing, movies, blu-ray players, tv's, and even was making a profit on hardware for a little bit too. there are probably even more complementary products based on ps3 sales that im forgetting. but yes, its outlandish to suggest that sony is dire need to get out of the hardware business.

Sega Genesis ~ 28.54 million
Sega Saturn ~ 8.82 million
Sega Dreamcast ~ 8.20 million
.
.
Sony Playstation ~ 102.49 million
Sony Playstation 2 ~ 144.45 million
Sony Playstation 3 ~ 58.2 million

Troll harder.
Sony needs to continue making hardware, but they need to be realistic towards the world market and not just depend on their older success stories, and archaic views towards what makes good games and good services.

Pretty much this.
Sony shouldn't and neither should Nintendo.nintendoboy16but nintendo already does  (and has been doing so for years now...)
More competition is a good thing.Zeviander
Is it?
I feel sorry for not playing Halo or Gears of War because I will never own 2 consoles at a time. I only have the PS3.
More consoles = more exclusives for each

My question to you is should Nintendo and Microsoft have ignored hardware and just made software after the PS1 and PS2 demolished them in software and hardware sales?....

More consoles = more exclusives for eachtjricardo089Why will you not own more than one console? Competition drives those competing to "one up" the others, giving a reason for developers and manufacturers to come up with new ideas. Granted, if there was only one console, then the games would all be in direct competition... but then there would be no hardware competition and no input innovation (unless Nintendo was the only company building a console).
No competition is good for the industry.bbkkristian
You forgot to add *sarcasm*
Without the 360, the PS3 would still be $599.99
