Most of you guys saying it sucks either aren't horror fans or haven't played Downpour. I loved it, and it felt as a true and proper horror game. It leaves its scares with subtle hints and clues, not gore shoved down your throat like in Dead Space. It's not a fantastic game where gameplay is concerned, but it's probably the purest horror game on consoles this gen. :)ShadowsDemon

I've wanted to play it for ages now, but apparently it has technical issues so I think I'll wait until Konami patches it first.

Dead Space smokes this game.

Salt_The_Fries

Dead Space is great, but it's not survival horror. Downpour spanks it in atmosphere and storytelling.

Will I enjoy Downpour if I loved Silent Hill 1 and 2 the most

Yeah. I don't see why you wouldn't.

You heard it here, straight from the horse's mouth. SH Downpour is one of the greatest horror games of the current generation. It's pure, oldschool Silent Hill (plus a few new additions which don't take away from anything). You people asked for classic horror, well there it is. Don't listen to those goofy, money grubbing, two timing, greedy, dishonest, shady, sleazy, corrupt cretans like those guys over at IGN that gave this modern day classic a 4.5.

Games like Downpour are a rare breed folks, and if we want the survival horror genre to stay a float we need to support games like this, not disown them for archaic controls and being slow paced. Lets face the simple facts: Silent Hill Downpour simply didn't have enough explosions to appeal the modern day critic and gaming masses. It's story was too psychological, too intelligent. It's atmosphere too foreboding. It's characters too realistic. It's pacing too methodical and well thought out. Brilliant game design such as this does not pass for quality in this day and age.

Now I'm not saying Downpour is on par with classics like SH2 and SH3, but this is as close as the franchise has come in eons, and is one of the finest examples of modern day survival horror. My word not good enough? Here's what notoriously hard-to-please critic Jim Sterling (a huge Silent Hill fan) had to say about Downpour -http://www.destructoid.com/review-silent-hill-downpour-222794.phtml

If we want to save this great genre we must stop paying attention to garbage and focus on the hidden gems that today's gaming press doesn't want to you to know about.

Pffffft. I don't know what stores you shop at but I'd stop going there ASAP!

You can get it on amazon for anywhere between 15 and 20 dollars. Who in the hell is still selling it for $60?

F*ck the critics. I haven't met very many hardcore Silent Hill fans online that didn't like it. That's why I ended up ignoring the reviews and buying it; because the fans recommended it.

Zero: Tsukihami no Kamen (Fatal Frame 4) not only follows the old school survival horror formula, but it's one of the scariest/best horror games this gen (behind Amnesia of course). Downpour is the purest console horror game this gen? Lol

It stands on it's own as a fine horror game. Had it been released last gen when the competition was thick, I think it would have been more warmly received.

Probably because it was Silent Hill in name only. It lacked any sort of tension or fear, which is an important part of these games.

Fo reals? I've pretty much heard nothing but praise for the game. I've played about 2 or 3 hours of it, and it seemed pretty creepy and tense to me.. But the game seemed playable. I had to quit Silent Hill 2 because it was too scary. I was a kid, though, but... I'm not touching that again lol.

Well it's true. There was never a moment of surprise or build up of suspence in Shattered Memories. You always knew when enemies were going to show up because of the stupid ice that appeared. It totally undermined the horror elements.

A lot of people praise it's story. It has almost zero scare factor though and that seems to be the number one complaint against that game. You always know the exact moment when enemies are going to show up.

Shattered Memories is a pretty sweet game. It's the one in which you don't want the fans' opinion lol.

Silent Hill fans come right behind Sonic fans as the most confused group ever. Every Silent Hill game has to be like Silent Hill 2. The trouble is, nothing can be Silent Hill 2, because it's obviously a one-and-done. Therefore each new Silent Hill is automatically inferior. Yet they yearn for a new Silent Hill every year, and each time one is announced, they moan like a dead horse is being beat. And each of these sequels is rated on a scale of one to Silent Hill 2: one being a game that actually plays well in the modern age, and Silent Hill 2 being the actual, f*cking Silent Hill 2 released in 2001 for the PS2.

It's as if the Silent Hill fans have trapped the Silent Hill franchise in its own, little prison town of Silent Hill. It's Silent Hillception, yo.

I feel what's missing is suspense, not horror. The horror was there in full force. The suspense wasn't. What's really f*cking up horror across all entertainment mediums is the fact that people think it's horror that causes them to freak out. It's not. It's the build-up. The scariest bits in Silent Hill involve the static radio and some unnatural, ridiculous coming off screen. The actual fighting of whatever grotesque monster was simply horrific i.e disturbing. Same with Amnesia: the scary bit is sneaking past the patrolling monsters. Once they catch you, you just end up more uncomfortable than anything. That being said, Shattered Memories was less Jacob's Ladder, more David Lynch. For some reason it actually reminded me of Rabbits.

You can only have one game of the year Shake. Pick and stay with one.

Anyways, the game isn't scary at all so hardly a masterpiece in that department. I still got to beat it though so it could still always change my mind...doubt it though.

That's true to an extent, but I think you're giving SH2 a bit too much credit. The first three games as a whole are what most Silent Hill fans consider to be the bar that all others must be judged by. And there's plenty of us, myself included, who consider SH3 to be the best entry. Twin Perfect considers it to be the best and those guys are basically the all knowing masters when it comes to all things Silent Hill. :P

Didn't think the game was bad, but the enemy designs are pretty lame. The A.I. also makes them way less scary once you figure out how predictable their movements are. Good atmosphere, music, art direction, but everything else is kinda eh.

The OP has a great point, gamers whine like little babies about Resi 6 (which is a good game imo) because its not like its older games. I haven't played SH:D but if its old school like the cry babies of Resi 6 want it to be old school why hate? Oh wait gamers these days are cry babies you can never make happy lol.

i'm with you, SH3 is my favorite as well...

I'd have bought the game if Konami released it for PC. Homecoming was very enjoyable, despite not being an amazing entry in the series.

Yeah, this was one of my original points. Gamers just don't know what the f*ck they want. They're indecisive little pricks. They cry incessantly about how the horror genre has gone to hell but when we get a legitimate survival horror game they ignore it. Not only that but they blindly follow the critic's word and bash it without even giving it a second thought. Lame.

Well guys, Downpour IS survival horror and you either want it back or you don't. Pick one.
