 I'm just happy it got reviewed at all, I didn't want to see this one slip through the cracks like Savage 2 did.

To the haters, this IS NOT an RTS, it's an RT4x game, it's like calling a tactical third person war game an FPS - not the same genre, this game plays slow and thoughtful.
Yeah, I'm a bit upset about Savage 2 as well. You would think Ocampo would have reviewed it, god knows, independent developers can use all the publicity possible. By not reviewing it, it keeps it out of the spotlight. At least IGN reviewed it (8.3 Impressive), and it's been patched since then. I'm hoping the community picks up and the word continues to get out.

Nice.
I was expecting AA.

Buy it online.

I'd probably order it off ebay.
You can buy a retail copy(digital+retailbox) on the store as well, just got my box copy in today, it looks nice and the research poster, hotkeys, and music CD is really worth it. All for the price of a regular game.
I was looking for that deal, is it at totalgaming.net?

I've actually volunteered my time in covering indie PC games, if GS doesn't feel it has the staff to dedicate to it. I'm glad they got a SOASE review out though, I've been writing them about it since the game released, it's really too important of a game to pass on.
The Savage thing was awkward all around, honestly.

I was totally unaware of that. That really sucks, S2 is a great game.
Another overrated PC rts game.
PS3_3DO
Can you be any more of a fanboy? Have you even played the game? Or realized calling it a RTS would be a lie.. Because its way different from the typical rts..

Sins is pretty different from StarCraft, definately no slouch though. Reading the review will give you a pretty good idea how the game works.

"Pretty different" doesn't really cover it. They're completely different kinds of strategy games.

He's probably Gamespot's best writer post-Greg K.
I like Jason Ocampo , his reviews are concise and to the point and usually deal with most of the important aspects of the game, there is no stupid opinion/personal story ass. After reading his Sins review I got the best idea of what playing the game is like, he actually went in depth on what the bounty mechanic is and now to me it sounds much more interesting, I also had no idea the game had interesting/clever achievments instead of retarded "you beat level 3" ones. He also dosen't mark down games for stupid reasons like Crysis not being maxed out on a 8600 or World in Conflict not being a "real" rts and not every game he reviews is AAA, I believe he gave Stalker, DMC4, BF2142 and Supreme Commander AA, I doubt anyone would argue his AAA games do not deserve that or that his AA games should be scored higher/lower.

I just looked at the review and its 7.1, did it deserve higher?

That's actually the second review that's up now. The first review, the Savage developers saw that the GS reviewer had only spent three hours playing the game (since its online, they could see playtime) and they felt the review did not accurately reflect the game. However, what they did was, they essentially called GS out, released private information (the playtime and such of the reviewer) and generally kicked a lot of mud in GS' face. GS pulled the review, and re-reviewed the game, however as you can imagine, going about what they did in the manner they did, the Savage devs hurt their professional relationship with GameSpot.
It was an issue of respect and professionalism, I don't think GameSpot would hold a grudge (they're just not that way) but the Savage devs, given the problems their poor relations last time, well there may be issues. I can't honestly speak for either side, but it was a bit of fiasco last time.

What rating did it get in its original review?A 8 because it doesn't even have a campaign, while it would be awesome (Homeworld campaign was pretty cool.), It's basically a multiplayer game, and i don't like multiplayer that much.KungfuKitten
ha, i'm glad the reviewer actually understood this isn't one of those games that has to have a campaign. Just like in civilizations the main goal of the game is to expand and conquer, not follow a set storyline the devs has set for you. This is not mainly a multiplayer game, it has enough SP content against the AI that will keep you busy for quite some time. Diplomacy needs to be revamped tho but knowning stardock they will do it.
its a great game, it deserves it, the devs are awsome as well, they listen to the customer.theshadowhunter
agree it deserved the score. What I like most about the devs is that they award people that buy the game instead of punish them for not. Works a lot better IMO.
Good game and great score.
Those that are interested in it, the game is a very stripped down RTS experience. Its much much more 4x then RTS, rather a real time 4x game. There is no micromanagement at all and really does follow the old 4x formula just in real time. The gameplay itself is quite slow... I can't wait for patch 1.03 for the very fast option seeing as most games average over 2 hours for me so far on the smallest maps(2 player to boot).
Bottom line, the game is addictive and fun. There is a great degree of depth(as you would expect from a 4x) with minor RTS elements to help push along the game. If you love 4x games you should love SOASE. RTS fanatic? Give it a try, you will appreciate the complexity/strategy the game has to offer.
Great game got a great score.
I picked it up when it came out and loved it. Loved how for one of 'The Bad' it had you won't get a lot of sleep.

Chaos_HL21
JO usually does that kinds of stuff
Great score but it's hard to trust it, no offence to Jason Ocampo but it seems if a game has lots of explosions it gets a high score(Crysis, WiC).darklord888
He gave Medieval 2 Total War a 8.8 and SupCom a 8.7, I just its because he reviews a lot of games
Great score as expected, it's just a shame that a great game like this gets so little attention.
And to just ingore it because there are lot of other strategy titles around is quite dumb, like 1UP said in their review: "Sins may, in fact, be one of a kind." It's referred to as RT4X, and for e.g. WiC was considered RTT. Both are as far from traditional CnC type RTS as jRPGs are from wRPGs. There really isn't a flood of games like this.

How so? And Hellgate London is part FPS.
It's precisely like you said it. "Hellgate london is part FPS", just like Sins is part RTS. But both games have stronger focus on a different genre, for Sins that is 4X. Which means that people who liked games like Gal Civs 2 will feel better at home than people who liked Starcraft.
