I don't own a Switch. But I know for a fact that its OS is a joke.

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - a Wii U port
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - HELLO 2014
  • I Am Setsuna - inferior multiplat
  • Ultra Street Fighter II - loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
  • ARMS - good
  • Splatoon 2 - not bad, more of the same
  • Sonic Mania - inferior multiplat
  • Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle - good

I can't believe that you sheeps are pleased overpaying for USF2. A freaking PSN/XBLA port that released ages ago.

This dumb ass discussion again.

It's a hybrid. And in that sense, it's whatever the end user chooses to do with it.

For me? It's 100% a console, it's always docked, I always play it on the big screen. For a guy like Chaz? It's a handheld, he's always playing it on the go.

Doesn't matter what Nintendo calls it, you're absolutely free to think for yourself.

Honestly I dont see why this needs to be explained to @AzatiS but then again if a powerless hybrid came out with more games than the PS4 had in a year in 6 months I too would be on the defensive if I cared enough....

Western support is not that bad, sure, you won't see the main Multiplayer games show up (but lets be realistic here... to have that we would be paying £500+ for a tablet with that power...).

The great thing about it's success in Japan is, most Japanese games are more about art-style than pure technical graphics whoring.... there will be an absolute TON of Japanese games either unique to this system or shared with the PS4/PC.... all the while it's indie scene will likely be great too for those interested... this will:

1) Kill off the Vita's indie/3rd party portable market.
2) include all the standard Nintendo portable style games with better graphics/controls
3) Have some beautiful looking 1st party games, and the first potential "3D console pokemon" if we are lucky...

In the end, considering @AzatiS claims to be mainly a PC gamer, you'd think support for such an idea would be welcomed... as its the perfect companion device. But ah well.. that 2-3 unique games the PS4 gets a year..... or 0 that XB gets... must be worth more.. "because of teh pow3h".

I'm not making money. I'm in college, and finding a job in my college town was completely unsuccessful.

Even if I had the money, I wouldn't *want* to pay for a subscription for Nintendo's online services. Their services have been notably subpar. They can throw all of the boring NES/SNES games I've already played a hundred times before temporarily for free in the service that they want, they ain't convincing me.

But I will say one thing Charizard...

Don't you think its abit disingenuous to compare today's sales of PS4s vs switch? ... given how long PS4 has been on the market compared to a new product? :/

That being said, nobody should expect a Nintendo console to outsell a playstation in 2017 given the problems with the Nintendo brand for the last 10-15 years... any comeback is welcome, and this is quite the comeback.

They haven't failed, there's zero confusion, people just keep trying to get around it and twist what they use it as with what it is. They stated this 5 months before the system even launched...

"Nintendo Switch is a home gaming system first and foremost"

People intentionally ignoring this are doing so because it puts them on the backside of the entire generation with a weak ass console, they're insecure about it. They think that if they twist things enough and constantly call it a handheld that it will magically be just that, but it isn't, it's a home console that can be taken on the go.

They want to delusionally convince people that it's the worlds most powerful handheld instead of the weakest home console on the market. People can like this thing all they want, but I'm not going to subject myself to another Wii U debacle. It's too weak to compete, it's too weak to get modern AAA games, it's not an ideal console for the modern age of graphical technology that exists.

Or could it just be they simply don't agree with Nintendo? Why are you injecting this notion that a customer's difference of opinion stems from insecurity? I don't care how powered or underpowered the Switch is. It could be on par with the Xbox One X and I would STILL call it a handheld, because I choose to use it that way.

Again, Nintendo failed to market what this system truly is and that's a hybrid. There's an inherent problem in trying to dictate what a hybrid's main function is when it can do both equally and when that main function is dictated not by Nintendo, but by the customer. The customer's decision in how they use it what dictates what it is to them.

Damn that sucks, Switch would be the perfect console for college get togethers. We use to party with Wii like crazy. Was such good times.

Yeah sure keep saying that . Your opinion , let me have mine.

You think a handheld as an hybrid because it plays on TV , then my PC is a hybrid ? No its not. Anyways , i wont talk the same things over and over , you already know my opinion.

Im not against the idea of hybrid , im just being a realistic guy what switch really is , unlike you taking things as you shouldnt just because Nintendo said so or because of a dock making a handheld show the game on tV.

Think what you want , i dont care , its my opinion

Cry me a river or slow clap all you want , it is what it is.

Didnt i tell you ? PC can plug and play with TV even without docks and craps like that and i can play with a console pad as well . I take it as i want to @ConanTheStoner and i say its a console.

Looogic.

The fact is that if Nintendo marketed Switch as handheld, thats how you would take is as. Not console not take it as you want. The moment Nintendo said is a console ... oh boy. Marketing for you.

@AzatiS: It's almost as if the whole "Is it a console, is it a PC, is it a handheld? is it a dildo?" point is irrelevant to begin with.

You are getting there, I'l give you a gold star when I hear it from your own mouth.

We talking about Nintendo Switch here with some other guys and you jump into conversation to make it Switch vs PS4 and this and that .

I told you my PC has TV connectivity and a pad to play with = console. Because i take it as i want shouldnt i ? Or i need a company to tell me what it is and market my PC as a console to count as one ?

Stop crying over others opinions. There are sheep out there calling Switch a handheld, i personally know plenty , even today lucas said things as they really are and the guy is Nintendo fan.

So please ! Cry me a river and im sorry for you if you thinking about dildos, you shouldnt thinking about that in a video game forum !! You should check it.

Look if you want to cry victim be my guessed, but these are the facts:

1) You are hung up on the pre-defined console tripe.. nobody cares, Nintendo is in the game and competing.

2) You mentioned PS4 in your second post, and then went on to compare to the switch to hypothetical PS5 for gods sake lol.

I mean, if you made the occasional opinion on the subject, I wouldn't bother, but you hound in every Switch thread, so don't cry when people do it back.

What do you mean ?

1) You care , everyone else that replying to my opinion cares. Otherwise you wouldnt even think to reply. What do you mean Nintendo is in the game and competing ? What this has to do with anything ?

2) What what i mentioned in a particualar moment over talking to someone has to do with you and your first reply ? Also read what i said carefully because the same things i told you about Wii U and guess what happened !! Everything i said. You all had similar responses to me , so you do that again. Hehe, its ok. It wont be me with a dust collector waiting for next product in the first place if things go downhill again. Will be you guys , so keep trash talking i dont mind.

Do whatever you want , youre the one crying and thinking about dildos over my opinions. Hahaha ! Besides as i said , many guys thinking Switch as handheld. Even Charizard debated in the past with me when i said " Guys , dont take Switch as console, not only this will backfire but will hurt the system after few years when will have to compete with next-gen consoles " ( you even laughed above about it but is a reality ) ... the response was something like " Who the heck says Switch is a console , ofc is a handheld or you making things on your own to start shit blabla ".

Youre so butthurt to hear the truth or something different than what Nintendo says to you that is unreal how mad you becoming. If we add how furious i made you in past debates, its really easy someone to understand what is happening.

You can cry all you want , my opinion stands as it is. Start craps as usual i dont mind ill debate with you all day long if you want to.

Im going to play with my console ( PC ) on TV because its hybrid PC/Console and i take it as i want. Looogic

I feel like Mario Odyssey will be when I fall in love with the switch. I already love the functionality of the system itself.

So far I own the following games

Breath of the wild (exceptional)

Mario Kart 8 (mediocre)

Arms (mediocre)

Splatoon 2 (mediocre)

I've been mostly let down so far, but I expect great things in the future.

I know you can, your great with mental gymnastics.

I mean, the Dildo comment was pure sarcasm, but hey you've turned it into ammunition.

Can't even read either apparently, as misunderstanding what I mean by nobody cares about set definitions, that doesn't mean people won't respond.

But hey, when you have no real arguement other than "lol this isn't on par with the other devices"! be my guest.

You can't debate, you just fling back anything you can.

You didnt quote or mention me , you thought i wouldnt see this?

You keep going and going over a very valid point i have and others having which are Nintendo fans. But its your obsession with me that makes it fun. Ill play this game.

Wanna seriously debate and make you run again like i do everytime in the end ? Say yes if you dare , i challenge you . All youll have to do is to answer yes or no , nothing else , to few short questions ill make. Wanna make this short debate happen so youll stop thinking about dildos and see that my points are as valid as rock and eat up every single BS you said up to this point ?

Try me , say yes and lets go.

I play my Switch both as a home console and a handheld. Every time I'm on a train or plane I take it with me, or just take it to bed before going to sleep. Feels a lot like an hybrid experience to me. Honestly after reading some of the above posts I must confess I completely miss the point. AzatiS particularly I have no clue if what he's trying to say.

As for the console it self, I'm enjoying it. Definitely giving me a brand new console experience with some great games too. Zelda (Freaking stellar)

Splatoon 2 (Good)

Sonic Mania (Fantastic if you like classic Sonic)

Snipper Clips (Hilarious co-op sessions with my wife)

MvsR (Surprisingly good).

Right now I can say it's not even a secondary console. Been playing it more than my Xbox and maybe as much as the PS. Definitely more than my PC. Very strong initial months, unlike almost every console. If it will last or not? Couldn't care less. Zelda and (probably) Mario will justify the Switch for me.

lol the OS is quick ...quicker than the ps3 OS...dont have a ps4 but ps4 has the same OS right?

switch OS is super easy to find stuff and isnt cluttered and messy like the ps3/ps4 OS... so where exactly is the joke?

--

as for street fighter 2... the only thing it has in common with the xbla game is the modern graphics.... USF2 has both original snes graphics...plus option for original snes music....
plus the game plays totally different...it plays like the original snes where every hit takes 1/3 of your life..... plus customizable characters.
so... a port is just you trying to sound cool.

----

oh and sonic mania is an inferior multiplat? lol a 16bit game???lmao

Switch is great! I own Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe so far.

By the end of the year I'll be adding Mario Deluxe and either Shovel Knight or Minecraft.

Also want to get Yooka Laylee, Sonic Mania, Stardew Valley, Rocket League, Rayman Legends, and Skyrim.

Good games are good games.

While that is true, (with Breath of the Wild) I see it as a Wii U game through and through. As a Wii U owner, trying to argue that the Switch is worth buying while listing Wii U games such as Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 is not going to go anywhere.

The Switch needs more games that are its own before I'll even consider looking at it.

I can say that the Switch has had the best launch for me (I can only speak for myself) of all time. Right now I own:

1. Disgaea 5

2. Mario+Raibbids

3. Zelda BOTW

4. Has Been Heroes

5. Puyo Puyo Tetris

6. Mario Kart Deluxe

7. Ultra Street Fighter II

8. Samurai Showdown IV

9. Wonder Boy Dragon's Trap

10. I am Setsuna

11. Binding of Issac Rebirth

12. Shovel Knight Treasure Trove

13. Sonic Mania

14. Minecraft

15. World Heroes Perfect

And I have Reserved for this year:

1. Xenoblade Chronicles 2

2. Fire Emblem Warriors

3. Super Mario Odyssey

That is ALOT of games for 6 months in. It has been a great time for sure. That is not even counting that I just got Persona 5 and Final Fantasy 12 Zodiac age for my PS4 and am still really into Dragon Quest Builders on Ps4 as well.

And do not even get me started on my Steam game backlog....

Really I sure wish good games would just stop coming out for a few years so I can catch up a bit. Fanboys have it easy that only own/afford one system. Those of us that own them all can never keep up. Ps4 and Switch are on fire, and I'm glad that I only really Play Killer instinct (alot) on X-box one, no time for more!

Best year I have had gaming in a very long time and the switch is a very big part of it. I take it to work with me and use it all of the time in handheld mode. It is nice to dock it and play on my TV when I want to as well. That makes if my favorite system of all time without question.

Forget online, take it in handheld anywhere and start up some Puyo Puyo Tetris, Street Fighter 2, or Battle Mode Mario Kart and you will be shocked at how fun it is to mess everyone up with it. One system in table top mode is so much more useful than I thought it would be. I have beat so many people at work and they are always asking to play me. The joy of the switch is that the joy cons mean that you are walking around with a 2 player device at all times. EPIC!!!!

It's a good system, and has potential to be great. I will try to buy it this holiday. Need to play Zelda and Odyssey.

Outside of 3 games (Botw Disgaea 5 and Mario/Rabids) the system has been a let down, of course though it's still in it's first year but outside of Mario Odyssey we have barely anything to look forward to.

Oh, I know what they said, but what you say is fact, I say... alternative fact I guess? Honestly, there's no way to objectively label what a hybrid is, because it changes depending on its usage. The way Nintendo sees their Switch is different from how I see mine. The mere fact that I can play a Switch right out of the box without even needing to hook it up to the TV tells me it's primarily a handheld. Then, there's also the fact that there's carrying cases for it, the cartridges are so small, and the cases for those carts are so small... It all just screams handheld.

I personally believe that Nintendo tries to sell it as a console first, because with the discontinuing of the Wii U, Nintendo doesn't want their customers to feel like they've exited the console market and by not selling it as a handheld first, they also alleviate their customers who were scared that the Switch was going to be the 3DS's successor.

What it comes down to though is who has the power of dictation of what the hardware is, and that is only Nintendo. Your use case might be different from what they set out to do or their definitions and dictations of the hardware, but that does not change what it is dictated as.

You can call it whatever you want, but it needs to be made clear what it is.

And Nintendo has failed to make it clear what it is, as evidenced by this discussion we're having. That's the problem when you develop a hybrid product, and Nintendo's continued problem with marketing concisely. Instead of just advertising it as a hybrid, they drew a line in the sand for the sake of distinction trying to sell it as a console when they know full and damn well they'll have customers who'll buy it never using it as such.

Yeah the only place it can compete is with a string of awesome and highly acclaimed games, the likes of which is never seen before on console... But keep telling yourself that graphic power is the only thing that matters while played on a Console of all things... Hint: If graphic is your thing, get a pc......

You know, for once... I would like to have both. Really, is that too much to ask? To have Nintendo value both innovation and graphics? To have these amazingly fun games AND run them so well, the thought of buying an XIX would be laughable (as it's not already laughable anyway). I get tired of Nintendo fans being complacent and simply bowing down to them for throwing them a Mario and Zelda every other year or so. It's not enough. I want Nintendo to have amazing first AND third party titles, and not just the random one offs, but AAA titles. I'd love to play everything from Fallout to Assassin's Creed on the Switch, but most AAA developers won't even consider the Switch at this point. I'm still trying to figure out how in the hell Skyrim is actually being released for it....

Oh, by the way, if you take a look at Metacritic's top 100, roughly 10-15 of those are Nintendo games and a few of those are rereleases. That means plenty of other companies have been making highly acclaimed games for other systems as well....

Stop making this into something different than it actually is, there's a certain hardware threshold that must be met for the ability to run modern game engines. The Switch is below that threshold, so it being skipped for nearly every AA or AAA developed 3rd party game can be directly linked to its hardware capabilities.

I've been loving the Switch, and love its functionality.

I own:

  1. Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Great)
  2. Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (Amazing)
  3. I Am Setsuna (Rough)
  4. Blaster Master Zero (mediocre)
  5. Snake Pass (Okay)
  6. Arms (Good)
  7. Splatoon 2 (Good)
  8. Sonic Mania (Really good)

Mario Odyssey is the game I'm most excited for right now. I originally thought I'd hold off on the game for Christmas, but seeing how amazing it looked last E3 plus finding out it was actually releasing October I'm getting the game as soon as it launches.

I like it and can't wait to play Xeno and Super Mario, but the lack of virtual console and proper 3rd party support has resulted it collecting dust more than I'd like to admit.

If Mario Odyssey turns out as good as it looks, it's probably the best launch year of a system ever.

The constant derailing of Switch threads by detractors who rely on page-long screeds littered with personal insults are making this forum unreadable. Every time an interesting thread about the Switch is posted, the same users jump in early to deliberately provoke and the thread goes off the rails. 85 comments already posted, and almost none of them meaningfully engage with the topic. Just the same sheep insults and hybrid debates that have been going on ad nauseum for the last six months.

Serious moderation is needed on these threads. Participation from those genuinely interested in the conversation is impossible right now because of the same users trolling and baiting.

If there's one thing I really like about the Switch is this, Nintendo is NOT following the footsteps from both PS4 Pro/Xbox One X which are both into 4K buzz, I like what the Switch is doing it's very own thing, a true next-gen console with cool exclusive games to play on, it's a cool console which can also take on the go as a bonus and I see it as a good innovation which both Sony/MS lacks for there current-gen consoles.

Me and my Daughter love our Nintendo Switch, I own Splatoon 2 & ARMS as of now, my daughter owns Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild & Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. On my next Switch purchase, I'll be buying Super Mario Odyssey & The Elders Scroll: Skyrim this year.

I give Nintendo Switch a 10/10!

I've enjoyed the launch year of the Switch more than any console that I can remember. It took years for me to accumulate as many Wii U games (and PS4 games for my son) as I've already purchased for Switch.

Here's what I've gotten so far:

Physical Releases:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • 1-2 Switch
  • The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth +
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
  • Disgaea 5 Complete
  • ARMS
  • Cave Story +
  • Splatoon 2
  • Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

E Shop:

  • Piczle Lines DX
  • Oceanhorn: Master of the Uncharted Seas
  • NBA Playgrounds
  • Overcooked: Edition

And here's what I've got pre-ordered/on a wish list for the rest of the year:

Physical Releases:

  • Pokken Tournament DX
  • Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition
  • Dragonball Xenoverse 2
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Monopoly
  • Rime
  • Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

E Shop:

  • The Bridge

What a great system this is. Only way it could get better for me is an increase in puzzle and point/click adventure games like the best of the DS and 3DS. Picross 3D, Ace Attorney, Layton, etc. Virtual Console would be great, too. No going back to the 3DS for me.

Metroid Prime has 0 gameplay so we don't even know what it looks like, the same with Fire Emblem (unless you're talking about Warriors and not the other one). Hell Pokemon doesn't have anything besides we know it's gonna be a rpg. Lastly Xenoblade 2 looks like shit, it looks 1,000,000x worse than XCX.

No, the topic creator asked other Switch users how they feel about system six months in:

On March 3 this year, Nintendo released its latest system, the Nintendo Switch (in the process fulfilling my long held idea of them doing a handheld-console hybrid system), and it has been an instant success since. It has gone on to be the highest selling system worldwide since launch, been selling out routinely (leading to immense stock shortages), and it has amassed an incredible library of high quality games in just a few months.

It is now six months old- so I figured let's just take some stock of our experiences with the system so far.

Eight games, of which I definitely like six, in just six months, is a fantastic amount. I think the Switch is en route to having the best first year a system has had since at least the Dreamcast at this point.

Where do you all stand on the Switch? Six months in, how has your experience with the system been? Are you happier with it than you were six months into your ownership of the PS4 or the Xbox One?

The thread was then flooded with people who don't even have the system, starting the same arguments that they do in every thread, insulting sheep and reigniting the graphics debate and the console/handheld debate, all irrelevant to the original topic, which was diplomatic and respectful.

Not many quality games in my opinion, like Zelda and hate the rest.

Also not really into handhelds.

I'll never understand this way of thinking. I didn't pack up my PS3 when I got PS4. Only reason I would stop playing an older gen system is if new stuff was fully bc like Wii U was for Wii, or 3DS was for DS.

Let me clarify that. Now that the Switch is here, I want to see what the new entries can look like with greater power and a new user interface. I'm not getting rid of any of my older handhelds. But just like I didn't want new entries on the DS once the 3DS was out, I want to see Switch games moving forward.

Glad you like it. Personally have no interest in the portable aspects, I only play my games at home. It's best game, Zelda, I have (and adore!) on WiiU. It has a few other ports and a couple of good new games that I'm not really interested in (Arms, Splatoon 2, won't buy multiplayer on Nintendo til their online matches Xbox Live 2004 standard)

New Metroid Prime is a big deal, and there's one or two other games I have my eye on, but won't be getting it til end of lifespan I reckon. I was stupid enough to buy a WiiU for Zelda BEFORE Zelda came out, and ended up waiting years with nothing but droughts and garbage in between. So I don't wanna do that again :P
