say what u want of spiderman 3, weather it was a good or bad movie but fact is that it will sell. sm3 will be the final nail in the already losing hd dvd format. Your friendly neighborhood spiderman saves sony. Blu ray, the official format of this gen and the next.

Spiderman 3 sucked.heretrix

weather u like it or not, sm3 will sell. i went to my local bestbuy today and pick up my copy and everyone in that store had either a dvd or a blu ray copy of sm3. literally everyone had a copy (i am not exaggerating). Transformer has nothing on spiderman. both movie sucks SM has too much of an appeal. SM is like the wii and transformer is like xbox.

I love when every nerd on the planet calls somebody who's depressed "emo". The love of his life leaves him, his best friend is out to kill him, and everything just seems to be going downhill for him, of course he's going to be upset. Unless he locked himself in his room, dressed up in all black, and played loud music about suicide for 90 hours a week. He does turn into a jackass with the black suit, but he sure as hell doesn't turn "emo".

You know a good way to make SM3 suck even more is by watching the original Cartoon Movie it was based on. Watch that then watch the movie and you will see how bad they butcherd it,

Spider-Man 3 is trash. It had the biggest opening of the three movies, yet the lowest overall gross and fastest drop. Pathetic. Transformers came in only $18 million behind SM3, and will probably be even bigger than SM3 in DVD and HD-DVD sales because it's a better movie.

honestly i'm glad i was able to see spiderman 3 and transformers for free. SM3 was sucky all around and transformers was just another bay movie. lots of flash and meh story. the shakey camera made it even worse to foucs on the mech fights :?

EDIT: the only movies i see making a big impact on the hd war are the star wars series, the lord of the rings series and the matrix series (even though only the first one was good, but some people seem to like the 2nd and 3rd i guess)

On a later note, niether platform is KILLING the other. most people are still buying dvds. Those that bought a 360 or ps3 are enjying the advantage of Hidef, while people like myself that love movies, bought both formats. Why buy one and not the other? If you can afford the TV, the PS3 and the bluray, then you can afford an xbox and HDDVD drive. That makes a 'format war' pointless.

sure it is, you're assuming that it sold well? Not everyone in the world is clamoring for SM3. I didn't even know it came out. Most people i talked to hated the movie, almost caused me not to see it.

For anyone who cares, Wal-mart is about to put out a 198.00 HD-DVD player this Sunday in most stores. It's made by Toshiba. I'm all for blu-ray, but this could make a huge impact if you think about it.

This is how it has to happen. The only way either format will move is if the mass market has access to it. $200 is the a good price, 150.00 is the sweet spot. Your average consumer isn't going to see either game system as a 'deal' when a 200 dollar player exists. Also, how many people out there actually have TV's to take advantage of HD besides most people here?

This crap is going to go on for the next 3 years. Thanks a lot Toshiba and Sony.........I loathe you both.

Link or it didn't happen. Last I heard, HD-DVD is keeping up with BluRay. It's still losing, but it's still more like 1.2 or 1.5 to 1 than 2 to 1.

I'm most interested in seeing what Warner is going to do this week or next week. Their contract with Blu-Ray runs out TOMORROW...and what they do from there is anyone's guess.

Either way Blu-ray wins. Blu-ray has sold more movies every single week than HD-DVD and did the same when Transformers released. Also stated today that they are "A Warner Home Video exec says the studio is re-evaluating its dual-format support," and appeared to suggest that it was leaning towards Blu-ray.

Nope, they said the same thing last week at an HD-DVD event. what Warner does next week is anyone's guess. And yes, BR is selling more, but HD-DVD is selling more per capita and has a stable format with standards set from day 1, which Blu-Ray doesn't.

Anything can happen.

Personally, my money is on DVD, though I have players for both formats.

Will Warner Bros. Endorse Blu-ray?
Studio executive hints that dual-format policy may be changing.
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (October 30, 2007) -- Warner Bros. has been neutral in the Blu-ray-HD DVD disc war, releasing movies in both high-def formats.

However, that policy may be changing, says a top Warner executive.

Dan Silverberg, Warner's vice president of High-Definition media, hinted Monday at a Blu-ray briefing for the media that the studio might soon endorse Blu-ray.

Warner is now the only major studio that releases movies in both formats; two support HD DVD exclusively while four have endorsed Blu-ray.

But Home Media Magazine reports that Silverberg believes that Blu-ray may be winning the format war and, consequently, it may be time for the studio to pick one over the other.

"One thing that may be changing is our strategy," he said. "When both formats launched and hardware prices were high, we made a decision to support both formats and let the consumer decide. But now that hardware pricing is affordable for both Blu-ray and HD DVD, it appears consumers no longer want to decide - so the notion of staying in two formats for the duration is something we are re-evaluating now that we are in the fourth quarter."

The Warner executive noted that Blu-ray sales have topped HD DVD by a 2-1 margin over the last nine months.

While he didn't come out and endorse Blu-ray, it sounded like the studio had a clear favorite if it decides to endorse one format.

"We can definitely talk Blu-ray," he said. "We are committed to the format."

Warner's decision to support Blu-ray over HD DVD could have a major impact on the high-def disc format war. Without Warner, HD DVD's catalogue would only include titles from two studios.

SM3 was a total failure. Its sucked so hard I couldnt bear to finish it. But yeah it will sell a zillion copies no doubt.

It looks like Blu-Ray is the clear winner but you never know. I know I wont be settling for any format until its finished.

Blue-Ray exclusives: Casino Royale, The Descent, Ghost Rider, Underworld, Robocop, Saw, Rocky Balboa, Silent Hill, Pirates of the Carribean, Spider Man 3 just to name a few ( from amazon.com). BD is soooo much better unless your obsessed with transformers and its the only movie youll ever watch and even then its only staying exclusive for a year. Not to mention that Sony Picture Entertainment, MGM, Disney, 20th Century Fox, and Lionsgate all back BD 100% aaaand Blockbuster dosent carry hd-dvd anymore. I feel sorry for anyone who bought an hd-dvd player or an add on for 360. Its sinking FAST.

Ah Emo.... also known as the "new wave" age back in the 80s... funny how things repeat themselves, no?

People dressed like that over twenty years ago, it's just another fad being brought back, it's nothing new.

But how will Warner react when Wal-Mart releases their sub-$200 HD-DVD player days later? $200 has always been a rather sweet spot for consumers.

In any event, there's still the incumbent to consider, and the only way you'll start weaning them off is to stop releasing DVDs and only release in hi-def of some sort. Of course, you also run the risk of having it backfire when people just say forget about it and ignore you altogether. But I see this as the only way to unseat the incumbent--blockbusters only being on hi-def.

Let's see real commitment, then. If they're so sure about BluRay, then let's see them declare that if HD should come from behind to win the format war (by releasing much cheaper players and, say, Paramount or Universal holding the next big blockbuster) that they'd sooner abandon HD altogether than switch formats.

Well, one thing is for sure, the holidays will either extend Blu-Ray's lead or it will enable HD DVD to catch up. There is plenty of potential buyers who still have not taken the plunge.

I wasn't talking software or trying to get in a debate. Think about it-Wal-mart puts out an HD-DVD player at 198.00, vs. a 40GB PS3 at 400.00 or a Sony blu-ray player at 498.00. Most general consumers are aware of the HD disc issue, but don't know the difference between the two formats. Putting out a product that costs half as much to play HD movies could end up selling A LOT of HD-DVD's company wide. That's all I'm saying, I prefer blu-ray, myself.

Well, one thing is for sure, the holidays will either extend Blu-Ray's lead or it will enable HD DVD to catch up. There is plenty of potential buyers who still have not taken the plunge.thinicer
You forget scenario 3: DVD sales surge while hi-defs stagnate.

That makes a 'format war' pointless.mtron32

with SM3 which is already out and pirates coming out soon, blu ray is this gen format. u argue now that its not going to replace dvd but think back 8 yrs ago when most tech geeks and consumers said that dvd will never replace vcr cuz it was expensive, cant record, cant copy, blah blah blah. same thing will happen, dvd will decline because more ppl will buy HDTV and eventually will want a high def player(blu ray player). because of higher quality and sound. Cost will do down, picture quality will get better, best of all its very durable. With movies like spiderman 3 and pirates leading the way , this will boast the popularity of bluray movies thus making it the stardard format for movies and videogames.

Thank you! I wouldnt hype any of that hollywood mainstream crap! You think one film like that will crush an entire format alone?
