[QUOTE="Saturos3091"]Games like Halo 3 and CoD4 are overrated. They don't do anything to distinguish themselves from their predecessors (Halo's forge/4 player Coop and CoD4's leveling system are not major improvements, especially when the latter can ultimately detract from the game, but that's due to it's poor matchmaking), nor do they do anything new for the genre.
A game doesn't need enough replay value to last you until the end of your life to be considered a great game. Too many people harp on multiplayer these days, sometimes to the extent that they forget what a great singleplayer experience is like. In the platforming genre, SMG does everything incredibly well and combines many gameplay elements as well as introduces new ones. SMG integrates the gravity into the core platforming gameplay so that it feels like it's a part of the game, unlike many "additions" (or gimmicks) that are apparent in many other games these days.

Super Mario Galaxy is my favourite game this gen but I'm going to have to disagree with you there. My one problem with it is the larger galaxies like Beach Bowl and Gold Leaf. They weren't quite as, for a lack of better words, engaging, as say Bob-omb Battlefield back in Super Mario 64 nor were they quite as fun to explore unlike the rest of the galaxies.
Of course, it could be said that there should be variety in levels, some being calm while others are action-packed, so I can see why it was never brought up in any review I've seen, but nevertheless, there could've been one large one that was akin to Bob-omb Battlefield.
I can see what you mean. I liked the variety in the worlds (galaxies) though, even if some were less exciting (easy stars, :P). I found the more creative galaxies (Matter Splatter, etc.) to be exciting than say Bob-omb Battlefield, although none of the levels had the same sort of depth (with the amount of stars) to them as the N64 levels like you said. Now that I think about it none of the larger galaxies really had that much going on in them (other than Dreadnought and the harder ones), I guess you could list that as (an incredibly) minor flaw.
