SMG is incredibly overrated.

In my opinion out of the 30 next gen titles I own. I think it the best game this gen.HarlockJC

SMG is pure gameplay. Best gameplay of the millenium IMO.death919

Graphics : most technically impressive wii game + most beautiful game of 07

Sound: Amazing soundtrack possibly the best of 07

Gameplay: Innovated the platforming genre, fresh new and exciting. The most perfect platforming you can get.

Difficulty: first 60 starts are easy enough for a new casual audience to play + tons more harder stars for the hardcore to play.

Value: getting all 240 stars will last you a long time.

Overall: Its incredibly fun and near flawless + innovative.

If you don't like the story or dont think its fun then w/e thats your opinion. But objectively speaking its much more closer to perfection than most games this gen.

They moved on to new things (Jak and Daxter for PS2, Uncharted for PS3)

I'm hearing all this talk about story,and sometimes it's being said that the story is one of the most important parts to a video game.If story is what really matters to you personally,get out of gaming and go watch a movie or read a book.Both of those mediums are almost completely dependent on story,unlike games,which depend on gameplay.The story of SMG is designed to give you a tiny bit of backstory and to give you a reason for all the star collecting,nothing else.Yes,if you're expecting a sweeping,epic story in every game you play,SMG misses the mark by a long shot.However,most of us realize that gameplay is the single most important aspect of not just platformers (which have never had epic stories in the first place),but games in general.Most of the greatest games of all time were extremely light on story,if there was one at all.Super Mario Bros.,anyone?

Basically,SMG won praise and GOTY because its gameplay was some of the,if not the best gameplay during 2007.

The story was almost non-existant and collecting stars just got tedious after a while

Did you play a Mario game for the story? i mean, c'mon, nobody plays Mario plattaform for a story is pure Gameplay and Fun, and SMG delivers a great experience in those departments.

Best game in the Wii, and one of the greatest of all time.

and I'm 30 and I disagree with you...IMO SMG is far better game just based on Gameplay only

It's flawlless. Not every game has to have a deep, engaging story. The focus of SMG is more about clever level design and gameplay. I wouldn't want a deep story for a Mario platformer, and as far as the gameplay and graphics go, I don't think they could have made it any better.

how did his credibility end??? COD4 sniper mission is one of the best gaming experiences Ive ever had. it pwned MGS4 in terms of stealth. and COD4 has good multiplayer which SMG lacks. so again how is his point wrong??

did he say that? COD4 actually had some pretty awesome missions. GTA4 created a massive world for players to immerse in. and not just for you, you could have 16 ppl playing at once. I'm not saying SMG is bad because you couldn't shoot. I'm just not seeing the reason for the hype. you just jump around collecting stars? and no decent plot?

i agree, but then again gta4 didn't deserve a 10 either.

imo the game was far too simple to be considered anything new. just go to a planet get the stars keep doing it i said meh i already done that with SM64 and SMS

the fact that so many people love SMG, that it's so highly rated and that it got GOTY means that the game has quality

people just need to accept it, even if it isn't their type of game

Platformer of the Year? Yes.

Game of the Year? nah.

SMG is the best of its genre, so that alone is quite an achievement.

Who cares about the plot? There have been some game games with a very good story, but they lacked in gameplay (Like Baroque). If you play a Mario game for its story, then you seriously FAIL!
