I just finished Snake Eater last night (yes I know, late to the party) but it was such an amazing game, I figured I should make a post about it. I have never shed a tear in a game before, but last night I did. It was a single tear, yes, but I still cried. Make fun of me at your own will, but it's just a testament to how powerful the ending to that game was.

After seeing that I have to wonder, how many other games will do that to me? I now feel like every game I play I will want to leave with the same feeling as I did when I turned off Snake Eater. The answer is simple: Guns of the Patriots. Playing Snake Eater made me realize that the only game that will make me feel like that again will be MGS4. I am officially craving the final chapter of MGS. :)

So, who else cried? :D

The story didn't touch MGS2's. In that regard it was disappointing. It had things things that felt out of place in an MGS game (concerning the Kobra Unit.)

I didn't cry, but damn was that a good game. Be sure to check out some FAQ's for some of the fun things you can do in the game like changing the system's date and such.

Yea, I almost cried at the ending I wont lie, it was the best ending for a video game, and better then 80% of movie endings, I cant believe people disliked Snake Eater, probably because of the camera or lack of map HUD thing, but once you get used to that, the game is unbelievable, i have a hard time choosing between all 3 because they're all amazing to me.

Yeah i thought 3 was the best closely followed by 1. Its just that the story was really good which really made me want to play the game.

I didnt cry, but I loved that game. I dont know why there are people who disliked MGS3, I thought it was amazingly well done and the story was just fantastic. I love my MGS but MGS3 is my favorite.

MGS 3 Subsistance really was an amazing game. It was solid in every aspect. I don't know about the other games in the series (other than Portable Ops.) though. MGS 3 Subsistance was an extremely high quality games, Kojima doesn't mess around.

I didn't cry, but it invoked some depression and some seriously thought-provoking questions. :P

Yeah, Kojima is a mastermind of storytelling, which makes me 100% confident in saying that MGS4 will not fall in that department.

the story was amazing

but the gameplay felt like a step backwards to me .. i guess it was meant to, considering it's a prequel to the other MGSs

things like limited silencers, and battery power, and so much jungle started to irritate me a bit

Agreed. After playing Subsistence I didn't think I can go back to the camera angles of Snake Eater and Sons of Liberty.

What did you think of the online?

yes Subsistence was definitely a rebound for the series. Far better boss fights than MGS2. The new camera made it 10x better and the controls weren't as bad.

Yes I almost shed a tear at the end. It was a crime that gamespot gave it a 8.7. IMO i believed it was the best MGS, and it deserved a 9.5.

The controls were never bad, its clearly a developer decision and gamers would just have to adjust. Similar to RE4 the controls aren't typical for games in that genre.

In the MGS series it goes..MGS>MGS3>MGS2. But MGS2 had the most refined gameplay. MEtal Gear Solid 3 was a unique experience, not much to say besides that. YOu won't find another game like a MGS game.

In the games timeframe...but as far as the best games in the series goes. It is definately better than Metal Gear Solid 2, just not in gameplay.

um yeah, the controls were bad. In MGS2 for example you would have to hold 1 button to keep your gun out, 1 button to keep the current view and then press a third button when you wanted to fire your pistol.

And calling it a "developer decision which gamers have to adjust to" is a retarded statement. Guess what? Developers come up with crappy controls in games all the time. They are not beyond fault simply because its a "developer decision". All control schemes are "developer decisions" anyway.

Other games that have done that to me are..

Beyond Good and Evil
Onimusha
RE4
Zelda: OOT
JAk II
FFX
Deus- Ex
Shadow of the Colossus
MGS/MGS2.

There are a lot of game experiences that just aren't your typical run of the mill stereotype experience.. like COD4, Call of Duty, Dynasty Warriors, Kane and Lycnh, Prince of PErsia.

:| How is that a crappy statement, several of my friends are like RE4 is so stupid you have press O or [] to run.. this is lame. I am just in awe and shock because there only in the village and there complaining about difficulty and blaming it on the controls.

I didn't have a problem with the controls, and i actually though the whole pressure sensitive gun release was a good control decision. The controls really weren't that complicated, and the aiming wasn't too sensitive like in other games. The grappling, wall sliding, rolling, jump out advanced techniques weren't hard to do at all. The only problem was the melee attack lol, CQC is probably one of the best Melee systems in gaming right now.

The story was the weakest part. The gameplay was pretty solid (apart from constantly switching camo - it became tedious) so its a shame the story doesn't hold up compared to the other games. Gray Fox's death in MGS is probably the most tear-jerking moment in the franchise. MGS2 didn't make me cry, but it left me feeling very contemplative about human nature.

I second that emotion.

Not a single game has TOUCHED me after I beat Snake Eater.

There are fun games - yes. But emotionally they're empty.

Bioshock had an attempt with the whole "would you kindly" thing, but meh.

I beat the game 7 times now, and I cry and get chills in my spine every time I watch the final hours of cut-scenes.
