I was just re-watching some E3 footage and trailers for crysis 3 and was just struck by how far removed it,and crysis 2 , are from the orginal in scope and ambition.
I mean the original crysis was a phenomenon the likes of which I've never seen in gaming, not just because it was a really good game but it created such a buzz amongst the PC community. We all remember back in the day watching youtubers and other forum-goers who spent literally thousands of dollars building a rig to try and "max" that beast, and how we all felt such envy when their benchies were posted because our "units" didn't..ahem.."measure up".
It really felt that with the original Crysis, Crytek was intent on creating a game that took advantage of the hardware and tech available and tried to push that tech on and maybe encourage other devs to follow suit.
Not saying Crysis 2 is bad,or 3 will be bad, but like I said the ambition and scope of these games has been drastically scaled-back(obviously to run on consoles),and I just wonder sometimes what Crytek, ignoring financial realities, could achieve with tech at their disposal nowadays.
