So at this point do hermits even give a flying f**k about the crysis franchise?

I was just re-watching some E3 footage and trailers for crysis 3 and was just struck by how far removed it,and crysis 2 , are from the orginal in scope and ambition.

I mean the original crysis was a phenomenon the likes of which I've never seen in gaming, not just because it was a really good game but it created such a buzz amongst the PC community. We all remember back in the day watching youtubers and other forum-goers who spent literally thousands of dollars building a rig to try and "max" that beast, and how we all felt such envy when their benchies were posted because our "units" didn't..ahem.."measure up".

It really felt that with the original Crysis, Crytek was intent on creating a game that took advantage of the hardware and tech available and tried to push that tech on and maybe encourage other devs to follow suit.

Not saying Crysis 2 is bad,or 3 will be bad, but like I said the ambition and scope of these games has been drastically scaled-back(obviously to run on consoles),and I just wonder sometimes what Crytek, ignoring financial realities, could achieve with tech at their disposal nowadays.

They will always be at least great graphical benchmarks for hermits. I personally want to play them on my PS3 or 360, but haven't taken the time.

Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead were awesome in both graphics and gameplay. Crysis 2, however, is your average COD wannabe console port. So no, we don't give a **** about Crysis anymore.

Don't know if I'd consider myself a hermit, but I do. The second one may not have been as open as the first one, but it was in no way a bad game. People tend to blame Crytec, when they were forced to rush it out the door. I don't think being on consoled had anything to do with it. But to each their own I guess.

He wasn't trolling, he was stating a fact about the mental status of most hermits here. Once the series came to consoles, a lot of hermits stopped caring about the franchise. That means nothing bad or rude towards the franchise, it's just an update on how a group on SW reacted.

That was part of the problem. Crysis was spouting fantastic graphics yet no one could run that game on Ultra when it first came out.

Not me. I took a break from FPS games after BF2. The first time I played Crysis was back in Nov 2009. The first time I ran it on my 5770-equipped PC, Crysis/Warhead ran fine with High settings at 1440x900. Crysis 2 with DX9 ran fine at the highest, non-DX11 settings.

I'm fine with the series and I plan to buy Crysis 3.

I quite like the Crysis series not because of graphics and how it looks but because of the great and well executed gameplay.

So, actually, I still give a flying f**k about the franchise.

Now that Crytek has exposed themselves as a bunch of lying greed bastards it's hard to get excited about what the next Crysis is going to bring. Crysis 2 was supposed to be so great and all yet it was a huge let down despite all of the propaganda coming out of the Crytek PR Office. Maybe if they just get back to their PC roots and develop for PC first then I might start to get excited again. It's not that taking Crysis to consoles was a mistake but really they went for the same audience as CoD and that was their mistake. Just like ToR went after WoW instead of making something that had the potential to be great, they instead tried to out-WoW WoW and it ended up biting them. The same with Crytek. They tried to grab the CoD crowd and that crowd just wasn't interested in anything except more CoD.

I see your point, but like I said it felt crytek was really pushing the envelope for PC gaming and the tech in a way few devs have ever done before or,most definitely, since.Obviously that wasn't financially suitable for them which is a shame.

Yes, my favorite FPS campaign this gen. Easy for me to get hooked into playing through the campaign unlike a lot of other games that once I've completed I never really felt like coming back to them.

Crysis 2 is cool, but it doesn't seem to be as awesome or what the franchise was supposed to be about. It feels more restricted, but it still seems good. I have yet to finish it though, I have to finish Warhead as well actually, currently working on a large backlog of games.

3 Looks pretty good.

I, nor anyone I know, cares that Crysis came to consoles, but they do care that Crytek took away the freedom and made the gameplay generic and the story completed unrelated to the first two.

Not particularly. Sure they still look amazing graphically but I care more about the gameplay. Which was significantly dumbed down from 1 in the second game. I'll probably look into 3 a little bit, but I really doubt I'm going to be buying it.

Socijalisticka

I've heard and seen some great things about FEAR(too much of a wimp to play it though).

Whats also interesting is the FEAR franchise has sort of went down the same path as the Crysis franchise. Both started out as top-drawer PC exclusives but later sequels became competent but pretty unremarkable shooters, especially when compared to the originals.

I'm not a huge FPS fan,but I've never played a FPS before that had such possibilities.it was like a virtual playground where you could go about stuff as you saw fit.

Yes. I've played Crysis 1 and Crysis 2 thoroughly.

Haven't played much of Warhead though. I don't know why, I just find the gameplay to be incredibly dull, regardless of the variety and freedom of choice that is embedded in it...and it doesn't help that the story is utter crap.

I'm a huge FPS fan; love the Half-Lives, Halos, Unreal Tournaments, Quakes, Bioshocks and whatnot. But Crysis just doesn't do it for me.

Yep the story does get pretty stupid and the fun and freedom does get curtailed towards the end.

Still standby my point that there has never been a fps quite like Crysis.

As part Hermit, part Lemming, part Sheep and the last part Cow - in other words a "Gamer", I'm looking forward to the next Crysis. It seems to be going back to the original jungle and having the bow as a weapon reminds me of the early Rambo movies I enjoyed years ago.

WHile more linear, I even enjoyed Crysis 2 more than Warhead.

When Crysis 1 came out,I cared about it as a game,it was an enjoyable experience, and still one of the best shooters I ever played, even though my 2007 PC couldn't max it,I played it on med-high...

When Crysis 2 came out,I could max it on start, but it just plain sucked,it gave the impression of a total console port, not even having graphics options availible, just a single preset.I still played it,completed it,and did manage to have some fun on some parts, but it simply wasn't nowhere as nearly as good as first one.

Later DX11 patch came out, made the game look pretty, arguably even more pretty than Crysis 1(it also brought in some optimization issues),but at that point,I couldn't care less anymore...

I still keep the game modded on my PC,though, when I wish to stress-test my GPU,or stare at tessellated bricks :P

As for Crysis 3,I'm assuming the worst,so whatever happens,I won't be dissapointed.I can only end up pleasantly suprised ;)

Crysis 1 and Warhead were great games, both tons of fun to play but Crysis 2 was a total letdown for me. It still looked very nice and it was a fun playthrough but not having a boss at the end among other things let me down.

I'd buy Crysis 3 at $30 or less and I do have interest in it. Just not anywhere near as much as before.

Crytek really lost my respect with the release of Crysis 2. Basically no graphical options? Seriously what where they thinking! What a bunch of idiots! Crysis 2 is merely good, whereas Crysis 1 was one of the best games I have played. Crysis 3 does look like it will be better than Crysis 2, much more interesting looking setting! But the weapons and general feel of the game is far too similar to Crysis 2 which isnt a good thing.

PC owners dont give a flying f**k about anything! all they do is pirate their games and brag about graphics.. give them pretty graphics and they'll talk about it for 20 years

[QUOTE="tenaka2"]

Crytek sold out, there will never see a penny of my cash.

Which is why crysis 2 sold less on 3 platforms then then crysis 1 did on pc, i hope the go under.
