damn, Platinum Game losing streak continues, they can't seem to catch a break
I'm genuinely surprised by this.
I figured Bayonetta was quite popular in Japan. And it's not like teh WiiU is a complete failure there.
Still, the game seems to be good and that's what i care about. Except that frame rate
I never really know how to interpret these Japanese weekly sales threads. On one hand, it sold next to nothing. On the other hand, it sold more than double any other console game in Japan.

Eh, I'm not surprised. Apparently, the Ps3 and 360 version of the first Bayonetta sold significantly more. Then again, their install base was a lot bigger.
But yeah, Bayonetta 2 is gonna be cool. I got my copy preordered.
bloody Nintendo! Any talk of porting it?
This one belongs to Nintendo, and Nintendo only.
Apparently.
Does anybody know Platinum's financials?
I love their games, and i'm super excited for Bay2 and Scalebound, but their games don't tend to sell well. I'm not sure what the dev budget is, so maybe their profitable, just not by much.
I've been thinking recently they might even be looking for Nintendo or MS to buy them.
This saddens me. I hope it does WAY better in the West. But with Smash looming about I doubt it will. :(

There ya go.
I think the Japanese are moving away from console gaming.
Square-Enix is releasing more and more stuff on handhelds, mobiles, and PC's these days. You can find almost every Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy title on other platforms now.
They only fluctuating, it happens with the japanese. They are known for fad lifestyles, and quick trend changes.
When it come to console gaming, all you have to look at is the production coming from japan, which is numerous. that should be enough to tell you enough about the art of living in japan.
I dont see it selling that great in the West either due to the type of game it is and the install base.
if the first game flopped when it was on PS3 and 360, what would make you think that things will be better now that the sequel is exclusive to the least popular console? Although I played the first game and enjoyed it for what it was but never found it to be that great, more like a 6/10 game at best.

I don't think the issue is related to that because the first game was a flop there too. On top of it the Wii U has sold terribly well in that region and other games have achieved way higher sales on the system too. Is just that Japanese people are not into what Bayonetta offers. And I'm not talking about gameplay but about what the game represents. Bayonetta herself is everything Japanese despise in a woman. Japanese are more into cute and innocent looking, often sexualized, young ladies. Meanwhile Bayonetta just comes off as vulgar even compared to Dead or Alive games.

Platinum already got paid for their work with Bayonetta 2. They don't give a shit
whoa...I just found out that those Bayonetta 2 sales actually gave it the 3rd seat in Japan right next to Yokai Watch 2 and Smash Bros.
That's actually daunting and just shows that Japan REALLY only cares about Mobile gaming than Console Gaming.

I think they might care about their game selling. Keep in mind this is platinum games, they don't have 200 million dollar budgets. They make their money back with modest sales.

Speaking of fad lifestyles anybody remember this short lived fad: The Japanese bagel head.
Seriously Japan, WTF?!?!?!

Nintendo commissioned the game and fully paid for it, so Platinum is not profiting from its sales.
And Bayonetta bombing won't have much of an effect right now considering that they are currently the go to Japanese studio for system exclusives (W101, Bayo2, Scalebound) or outsourced development of big brands (Metal Gear, Avatar).

Yeah, the game was cancelled then Nintendo brought it back from the dead and funded the project. It wouldn't even exist without Nintendo. I can't see it leaving Wii U.

You may want to wait for the sales in US and Europe, as Japan is a weak market for game sales unless it's Monster Hunter or Pokemon. lol!!
Wont be too long till it hit playstation and xbox unless nintendo ( since they basically funded the game ) holds on to it, its too bad but its highly unlikely it will do anything outside of japan either.
The Japanese are too busy buying Smash Bros. and lining up for Pokemon. Seriously, that's most likely what's actually happening
Man that sucks. why don't platinum games sell?
Unfortunately not everyone appreciates the genius of their games

OKAY that's nice...but I would still think they care about their games selling well. Ya know...hard work and all. Also Nintendo would be quicker to come to them for bayo 3 or perhaps another game. So yes, sales are a good thing for Platinum and they do care.
Pretty poor timing of the game to be honest, Smash was not released all too long ago.
He kicked off when asked about this game going multiplat. Just goes to show that Nintendo gamers just aren't interested in anything that is not Mario.
Which is why Yokai Watch 2 is the second best seller on that list.
Does not surprise me one bit.
Nintendo fans don't support outsiders. They are insular, one dimensional and don't appreciate other developers. We're constantly being told on here that Nintendo is all they need, that in some cases, Nintendo is better than all the other developers combined.
And this is the result. You get very few games and the ones that do come on don't do well.
I said this last year, but I honestly don't think this game is going to be a hot seller in the west either.
Still, I'm glad it exists...but I'm not dying to play it myself once it was revealed Bayonetta creator and previous director Hideki Kamiya was not directing this sequel. I'll pick it up on sale down the road though.
I think it will be a good 7-8/10 level game though (like Metal Gear Rising) as Platinum is competent, but my favorite thing about Platinum is Kamiya who elevates Platinum's reputation with his games.
On the plus side, 2014 has been such a shitty gaming year, that it's nice Bayonetta 2 is releasing.
Put the game on ps4/pc/xbone Watch it become a top seller.
I expect the same fate for scale bound, being exclusive to the least popular nextgen system.

Or it's because the "hardcore" never gave a damn about Nintendo consoles and likely never will. That outrage at Bayonetta 2's reveal freaking proved it (and the game's fate).
EDIT: Add to that, not everything with Mario sells. NBA Street 3 and SSX On Tour on the GameCube had Mario characters and the game sold like shit!

It's the third highest-selling game in Japan, behind Smash and Yo-Kai Watch.
