Jesus, Bayo 1 sold more on the Xbox 360 in Japan with a muchsmaller install base than the Wii U.

Hey Pramath, maybe instead of kidnapping undocumented children from the border you could start buying some Wii U games? You should convince your fellow sheep to start doing the same instead of flooding forums with their Nintendo Defense Force routines every time someone questions Daddy Nintendo.

I really hope you are being sarcastic.

:) Hmm ok. Thanks for the warning. I don't know about Japan or its culture and I'm curious how or what can direct a great amount of people so precisely. I just gave some example thoughts of what it could be, because I didn't want to come across as someone who asks a question without thinking about it first. But I understand that a real answer could be insulting to people. So maybe this is not the place. I just don't know what would be the place. A place where people don't play games of social standards and guilt.

Well I always thought of Japan (the whole of east Asia actually) as very different, more so than other places... I keep the rest of the things I think to myself.... Just as a precaution.... I'l on voice them if they bring it up them selves.... Which is unlikely since I don't speak Japanese.... I will say this though..... Ninjas are Awesome ! :p

keep in mind this is commercial bombing, critically Famitsu gave it a 10/9/10/9, Edge gave it a 10/10 so far

looks to be a good game, but yeah I doubt it's going to sell well at all, which probably means a limited inventory of the game with retailers, so pick up a tangible copy while you can, I will

with something selling this low commercially yet getting high critical reception, I wonder if production will be low but later a demand for it will cause prices of limited existing inventory to skyrocket... might be an investment to pick up an extra copy and sit on it

sad though, these low sales will make it difficult to find financial backing for future titles unless Platinum can come up with the financing on their own

anyhow, the first Bayonetta didn't sell well right off the bat, but good word of mouth I think helped sell the game a little longer, hopefully this game gets a lot of fanfare to keep sales up a bit longer, I think it'd help a great deal to keep Bayonetta 1 + 2 deal a permanent feature with the title on Wii U rather than a limited/timed thing, to help support future sales

Todays gamers are idiots they wouldn't know a good game if they saw one. When a game like Watch Dogs can sell millions and yet a game like Bayonetta gets over looked.

Your point falls flat on its face because Japan doesn't care about Watch Dogs either... To date sold 170K in Japan combined on all consoles.

Well, what was it expected to sell in Japan? According to the sales numbers, it is third in sales this week, which isn't all that bad.

Put the game on ps4/pc/xbone Watch it become a top seller.

I expect the same fate for scale bound, being exclusive to the least popular nextgen system.

The original was on the PS3 and 360 and it sold poorly.

It actually sold pretty decent. Especially on the PS3, ya kno, a console were its version was complete and utter shit when compared to the 360 version. Was it a proper version made for PS3 and I'm sure it could have sold way more. The only reason why I didnt bought it at launch and only at half price was because of that. I refused to pay the same as 360 owners for a lesser version of the game. The PS3 version had too much bad publicity around it at the time and it still sold the most out of the two versions... what does that tell you? Remember many hack'n'slash fans are PS fans cause they grew up with DMC, GoW and many others

Probably, but maybe we should wait until the game releases in regions that still play console games before we declare it dead once and for all.

I disagree with the pessimistic view people have. Sales correlated to console games have been low in Japan for a wile now in comparison to handheld, so it's no surprise that a exclusive niche game isn't performing on one console. Secondly, it hasn't released in the North America or Europe yet, neither do we know how it'll perform over time, so i don't know why people are jumping the gun after 5 days in Japan's shrinking console market.

Also people seem to have forgotten that this IP was dead, the only reason why we ever got a sequel was because Nintendo pushed for it, as it pushed for Wonderful 101, which performed much worse than Bayonetta 2. It's obvious they knew that these projects wouldn't be successful, thus i doubt low sales will affect them to a noticeable degree (by noticeable, i mean cancelling other projects in the oven by Platinum).

Finally, does its first week performance make the game less fun? No? Ok.

Platinum Games really deserves a lot more recognition.

They ARE recognized. They have many ex-Capcom staff there. Apart from the blue chips like Capcom, Square Enix and Namco Bandai etc., I'd say Platinum Games is among the top non-blue chip companies which gamers actually know about

If Platinum Games is so well known by gamers then why do their games sell so poorly?

damn, Platinum Game losing streak continues, they can't seem to catch a break

And yet the critical reception is stellar so far. What stake in sales do you have? So you own stock in any of these companies?

He kicked off when asked about this game going multiplat. Just goes to show that Nintendo gamers just aren't interested in anything that is not Mario.

Or it's because the "hardcore" never gave a damn about Nintendo consoles and likely never will. That outrage at Bayonetta 2's reveal freaking proved it (and the game's fate).

EDIT: Add to that, not everything with Mario sells. NBA Street 3 and SSX On Tour on the GameCube had Mario characters and the game sold like shit!

I think the excuse that Ninty fans wont buy games that aren't Nintendo is bullshit, and I think your argument that "hardcore" don't care about Nintendo consoles is bullshit. If Nintendo had maintained great relationships with 3rd parties and made consoles that were in the ballpark graphically of PS4 and X1 then I believe those consumers would see them as an option as a main console. But Nintendo went with a console that is lagging in graphics to the other 2 and their history with 3rd party relations is not great.

From what I hear it only had one day to rank. So those aren't a full weeks sales. That and the fact that Japanese sales figures tend to be small anyway. Wait for it to be out for a month and then compare it against other software released within the month.

And no one pays attention to this.. those are one day sales. Im sure an entire week would look better.

You should tread carefully..... You might say something you didn't mean to say.

I currently live in Tokyo and have been here for more than 2 years already. I can read and speak Japanese although not on a native level. I'm studying game development in a technical school and let me tell you that the world of the Japanese I've met so far is really very insular. Since all of my classmates can't understand English they really don't know anything that hasn't been translated to Japanese. There's this one guy I know who thought only Japanese eat rice. There's another one who was surprised there are other countries that have 4 seasons. Another one is scared to visit America when I asked him if he would like to visit US. Apparently he thinks it's so dangerous that he's scared to go. PC gaming is virtually non-existent here. Batman, Starcraft, DotA, etc. are unknown aside for a few. They frequently use phrases such as "We Japanese..." and "If it was a Japanese.." as if all the Japanese think and act the same.

Thanks for living in f'ing Tokyo (that is so cool) AND being informative. I thought everybody in Japan had English cIass in school. I sort of expected that everybody in Japan could speak English to some degree. If you are limited to a language that is almost exclusively spoken in your country then that makes it a whole lot easier to understand this 'We Japanese...' thought process and why they would basically ignore a large part of the industry. I mean I ignore most Japanese and Korean games because I can't read any of that. I tried playing Phantasy Star and being unable to read anything was incredibly annoying. Sure there are translations you can look up but that is not the way to play a game.

So if Starcraft and Dota would be translated to Japanese would you think that those games would stand a chance at least?
I found this post from a Japanese gamer which I thought was cool and would suggest that you are on to something:

BaryshBey: "Hello. I am Starcraft2 player from japan.

PC gaming is not very popular here in Japan. Most people may say that is becouse of big number of other gaming consoles like PS3, Nintendo, Wii and so on. I cannot disagree with this.
But still it seems to me that biggest problem is that there is not enough games translated into japanese. Most games imported here are in English. In schools we learn English as our second language. As you can tell from this text:-) this not enough to fully understand and enjoy the gameplay.Particulary with Starcraft2, there are only about 400 people playing(based on SC2JP community site(there may be much more but this is the only information I have)).I think that this is kinda wierd, Japan have a good gaming market and number of people who interested in PC gaming.

What do you guys think about BLIZZARD making Japanese version of SC2?"

This is very interesting to me because his English seems OK. My English is not much better... yet I can understand everything in English videogames. I bet he would be able to play most English games without looking up a single word.

So, you'd rather it dead because you hate Nintendo (and don't give me that "I don't love/hate any company" nonsense). That about sums it up.

Would you rather Activision or EA have it (not that any of them would)?

Honestly? Yes, I would rather have it dead. Watching the "franchise" end like this is fucking sad.

As another user said, even putting it on Steam would've had a better outcome.

If that meant more sales, then yes. That said, I can't 100% guarantee that sales would be amazing on the PS4 or the Xbox One. What I can guarantee, is that they were always going to be absolutely abysmal on the Wii U.

I'm sure you can understand my stance on this. I'm going to play the game either way, have plenty of friends with Wii Us -- ok, not plenty, but at least three.

Oh well.

The first game didn't sell well on the PS3 or 360 either. I'm betting this one sells even worse in the West, but at least there is a second one.

Should've released it for 3DS since it seems to be the only relevant Nintendo system this gen.

No. Try harder.

May it rest in peace. As soon as I heard that Nintendo, of all companies, was looking to revive it, I knew this would be the outcome.

Because it's going to end up like The Wonderful 101. I called it too... so predictable.

Your timeline makes no sense.
